Hospitaller Knight

In the picture is rapresented a knight of the Hospitaller Order, while in the background it's possible to see the castle of Marqab, perhaps the first bastion of the Knights of St John in Africa. It raises vertically over the sea north of Tripoli, and it was costantly defended by a big garrison and provided with food to withstand a long siege.
The Hospitaller Knight was the first monastic-military order formed during the first crusade(the first Grand Master was Gerardo Da Sasso since 1099), to defend the pilgrims who went to the Holy land, and later to constitute the core of the Christendom struggle against the Arabic.
