The objective of this event is to provide an
alternative event for flying at a site like 60 Acres, Redmond, Wa.
where IC power is not allowed. The idea is that it would be similar to
the .020 Peewee Replica event. The motor would be limited to a Graupner
Speed 280 brushed motor and the power would be supplied by a 10
pack of 110mah NiCds or by an 8 150mah NiCds. Beyond that you can use any gearbox/prop
combination.
These airplanes could be FreeFlight or RadioAssist. The airplanes for this event are the same as those that are eligible for the SAM Peewee Replica event. This includes the kits produced by R/N Models and Lee Campbell. These kits are available from Penn Valley Hobby Center. Bob Holman also has plans and laser cut parts for some airplane in this size. These airplanes can be flown in a Texaco style event or in a Limited Motor Run event. Airplanes this size would need to use miniature RC equipment. |
Comments and Test Notes: Weight is the big problem with these airplanes. A DIRECT DRIVE S-280 is the best solution. A MP-Jet gearbox adds an extra ounce. And a S-280 with a gearbox needs more than 6 cells. It has been found that a 6X3 propeller is the best choice with direct drive S-280. I use Zinger wood props because I think they look better on these airplanes. My DIRECT DRIVE Graupner S-280 turns a 6X3 propeller for over 1 minute at full power (static) with a Castle Creations Pixie 7 ESC and 8 150mah NiCds. Bob Macklin |
