"The Interesting Week, Part 2"

Monday: Wufei: The Library.

The five Gundam pilots slowly climbed the steps to the public library. Since they each had a designated day, Wufei, ever the scholar had picked the library. There was something he "wanted to research" and the others had no choice but to go along, according to Quatre's rules.

"Yeah. This should be fun." Duo muttered.

"Duo, please. This could be a lot of fun!" Quatre piped up.

Wufei was more forward. "Shut up, Maxwell."

Duo walked into the library unhappily, as the other four began to spread out. Heero immediately sat down in front of a computer and began clacking away.

Duo just shook his head.

Trowa and Quatre left in search of a dark corner to hide out in, thus answering Duo's question of how this could be "fun".

Wufei settled down at a table with a huge book, and began studying in earnest.

Duo wandered around, not sure of what to do. Sure, he knew how Trowa and Quatre were going to spend this "quality time."

Duo looked around and noticed he was in the children's section of the library. He felt a slight tug on his braid, and he turned around. A little girl of 4 or 5 stood before him with a book in her hand. She grinned up at him, and Duo smiled back cautiously.

"You're really pretty. I like your hair."

"Uh, thanks." Duo replied uneasily.

The little girl was dressed in overalls and had pigtails. She was actually very cute. She suddenly pushed the book towards him.

"Would you read this to me?" she piped up.

"Well-" Duo faltered. "Aren't you here with someone who could read to you?"

"I'm here with my mommy. But she's helping my neesan with some homework. Please?" the girl smiled charmingly, and Duo sighed. There was no use trying to resist *that*.

"Ok, kid." There was nothing better to do, anyway.  The book was "The Happy Prince" by Oscar Wilde.(1)

After a while, Wufei checked the time. He snapped his book shut, gathered his notes, and gathered his fellow pilots. Their day at the library was over.

Heero was still at the computer, clacking away.

They hunted down Trowa and Quatre on a couch in a dark section of the library. After practically ripping their lips apart, they set out in search of Duo.

"Where could he be?" asked a worried Quatre.

"You don't think he took off, do?" pondered Wufei.

"Well, there's only one section left. The kiddy section."

The four ventured over there. When they found Duo, the pilots were speechless.

Duo was sitting on the floor, surrounded by little children. There was an adorable girl sitting in his lap, his braid clutched tightly in her little fist. Duo was reading aloud from a Dr. Seuss book.(2) What amazed the pilots even more was the enraptured looks on the children's faces as Duo read to them.

There were a couple of parents around, smiling at the scene.

When Duo was done, the kids clapped their hands, as did the pilots. Duo looked up and blushed.

"Sorry, kids. Time for me to go."

"Awwww..." was the collective whine from the children.

"Maybe Duo-san will come back again someday!" piped up a cheery librarian.

"Yay!" the children cried, and began tackling Duo around the knees.

"Eh, yeah. See ya!" Duo disentangled himself, and walked over to his pilots.

Wufei had a smirk on his face, and Quatre glowed happily.

"Never knew you had it in you, Duo." Trowa spoke up.

"Yeah, well..." Duo trailed off.

He looked over at Heero, who was watching him silently. Duo saw a sparkle in his eye that warmed him. Perhaps this wasn't such a bad idea after all.

It would prove to be an interesting week, indeed.

Yes, I know this is total fluff, and not what I usually write. I work in a library, and that is partly why I was inspired to write this.
