Louis II de Bourboun, 3rd Duc de Bourbon -- byname Louis the Good, FRENCH Louis Le Bon (b. 1337---d. Aug. 19, 1410), Duc de Bourbon (from 1356), Comte de Clermont and de Forez. He was an ally of Bertrand du Guesclin, the Breton-French hero, and a staunch supporter of Jean II de France; when Jean was taken prisoner by the ENGLISH at POITIERS, Bourbon became one of the hostages delivered to the ENGLISH as a guarantee of the payment of the ransom. He returned to FRANCH in 1367 and again fought the ENGLISH in POITOU and GUYENNE (1368-70).

Jean I de Bourbon, 4th Duc de Bourbon -- (b. 1380/81----d. 1434, London), Comte de Clermont (from 1404), and Duc de Bourbon (from 1410), who was a champion of the House de Orlens in the Hundred Year's War. He helped lead the Armagnacs in their resistance to the ENGLISH King Henry V's invasion of FRANCE but was captured at Agincourt (1415) and bought to ENGLAND. Despite payment of his ransom, Henry never freed him.

Charles I de Bourbon, 5th Duc de Bourbon --- (b. 1401----d. Dec. 4, 1456), Duc de Bourbon (from 1434) and Comte de Clermont. After having rendered notable services to Charles VII de France, he turned about and became---with Jean II, Duc de Alencon---the leader of the short-lived Praguerie (1440), a revolt of nobles nominally led by the Dauphin (the future Louis XI). The nobles were cornered in the territory de Bourbon and made peace, given generous terms.

Jean II de Bourbon, 6th Duc de Bourbon --- (b. 1427---d. 1488), Duc de Bourbon (from 1456) whose military successes, as at FORMIGNY (1450) and CHATILLON (1453), contributed greatly to the conquest of NORMANDY and GUYENNE and the rout of the ENGLISH. From Louis XI de France he received the Governance de Orleanais, Berry, Limousin, Perigord, and Languedoc (1466) and became an ardent supporter of the crown. His brother, Charles II de Bourbon (1433-1488), became Archbishop de Lyon (1444) and the Cardinal (1476).
