39TH SQUADRON
UNIT DECORATIONS



The 39th is a highly decorated squadron.


Wartime Service





During World War II the squadron was awarded two Presidential Unit Citations.

The 39th earned the American Theater Campaign Medal for its service in
the United States before deploying to Australia in early 1943.





It subsequently received nine Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medals denoting
the nine overseas campaigns in which it participated.

These include:

The Papua campaign
The New Guinea Campaign
The Northern Solomons Campaign
The Bismark Archipelago Campaign
The Western PacificCampaign
The Leyte Campaign
The Luzon Campaign
The Southern Philippines Campaign
The Air Offensive against Japan.



Since the end of World War II, the squadron has received the following awards:




Occupation Medal for Japan


Occupation Medal for Germany with Berlin Airlift Device


The Medal for Human Action for the Berlin Airlift


Ten Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards


The Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Award (Panama)


The Defense of Saudi Arabia Medal


The Liberation and Defense of Kuwait Medal


From foreign governments, the 39th has been awarded the following honors :




The Philippine Independence Medal


The Philippine Liberation Medal


The Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation.


The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
