Bomb Rocks Herwan Jeetanics
|
|
Without any warning, a massive explosion ripped apart the main Jeetanic stadium in the Herwanese capital at 1:23PM on August 10, 2005, killing around 5,000 spectators but sparing Jeetanic athletes.
Paramedics and emergency personnel rushed to the scene looking for survivors and helping the injured. There were reports of mass panic as people in the jam-packed stadium, which seats 40,000, fled for their lives. Some local hospitals have admitted a few spectators who are in critical condition after being trampled in the frenzy.
News spread quickly from the bomb site but the rest of the day's events were held as usual amid tight security checks and a massive police and military presence.
According to a police spokesman who spoke on the condition of anonymity, no suspects have been identified but an investigation is being launched immediately.
