In September 2000, I heard mention of a Cowboy Mouth concert coming to town. A year before "Jenny Says"
had been pretty popular on the radio stations and the name of the band rang a bell. So when the station began
running contests for free tickets and a chance to meet the band, I was pretty gung ho on trying.
Now, I had no intention of winning. I mean, the chances were slim to none, right?
Wrong!
I won tickets and was in the running to meet the guys while they did an acoustic session live at the station. Again I told myself: "Yeah right. Like I'll never get lucky enough to win this one!"
And again I was wrong. I won the chance to go meet them and to bring someone along.
I was rather excited yet at the same time, I only knew that one song! So I started feeling guilty; shouldn't someone who really knows the band be the person to win?
I went anyway. *grins* I couldn't help myself.
The session at the station was really fun actually because not only did we get to sit in the same room while they played a few songs live,
but they, of course, got everyone to join in when they played "Jenny Says." We got pictures and autographs and I was on top of the world.
That night, we (myself and my husband) arrived at the concert still unsure of whether we would "fit in" or that we would feel comfortable. So we sat on the top balcony for the first song to stay away from the large crowds.
All it took was one song and I grabbed my hubby's hand and we went downstairs into that crowd we were avoiding. We didn't know the songs and we didn't need to. We just danced and laughed and smiled...and had a blast!
I can't portray in words the feeling I had but it wasn't just me. It was the entire audience. There was an energy in each and every person there. Fred was the puppet master and he was pulling all our strings.
Unexplainable. It's one of those, you have to have been there to understand. I know I am not alone in this sentiment.
Since that night, I have been addicted. I have made friends with people CM fans online and they are just as hooked as I am...
