Requiem For a Friend

A brush against my leg

I know that it's you

a warmth against my belly

always you are true

A cry to greet me

as you wait by the door

I don't want to believe

that these are no more

Your bright green eyes

look lovingly into mine

A nudge at my shoulder

to say it's wake up time

I look where you should be

and looking can only cry

My dear, I can not tell you

of a way to say goodbye

Parted from me too soon

journey's safe, I pray

I know that if you could have

you'd have found a way to stay

But god decided it was time

for us to bid adieu

and with your death, I know

you take a part of me, too
