My name is Abby and I felt compelled to write "The Phantom" after talking to a friend. I am an addicted chatter and she is not. This book is written with her in mind so that she and others can understand what happens when someone acquires a computer and finds themselves spending more and more time "online". By the same token it is written for the family and friends of the Internet addicted loved one. Lastly this book is written for the addicted themselves.
Within these pages many aspects of Internet addiction will be explored. Some of it will be good and some bad. Some of it will seem downright unbelievable. All of it, however, is true. Handles or alias are used in place of real names as not to cause embarrassment to those spoken of.
In my own defense I would like for you, the reader, to understand that chatting on the Internet and the Internet is not evil in itself. Places like “CHATALOT. COM” can be both fun and rewarding. Internet usage must be taken, as with many things in life, in moderation.
The Phantom is created when conventional thinking is casually tossed to the wind. Practices are embraced without understanding and common sense is ignored as the intrigued one spirals forward into the abyss. With the Phantoms’ firm grip and a willing hand tucked safely into his, a person can be led down the path of darkness....into his world of Internet addiction. |
