THE JAWA is on the air!
It's settled then, I've decided to do an internet radio broadcast
from my computer on Monday and Wedsday nights, from 10-12 central
standard time. I'm not gonna post the link, because it's my IP address.
You gotta email me if
you want the address. I'm gonna dedicate each hour to a different genre
or theme. I'll probably play electronica, punk rock, new wave,
reggae, rock, and maybe some jazz. I'm gonna try to play local artists
and music you never would hear on the radio whenever possible, so if
you gots some music, and I like it, I might play it on my show
sometime. I also named it THE JAWA! it was either that or
J-chot-radio.

strange for me because
the last time I got sick was more than a year and a half ago. my head
hurts. so much so that I can't capitalize the first word in my
sentences. that's all I have to report to you today, so I bid you
peoples farewell.

Current listening: anything on Tigerbeat6
The last
blog was such a bundle of improvised fun, I'm gonna do it again!
I
really like almost everything on the Tigerbeat6 label. I
haven't felt this excited about electronic music for some time now.
Speaking of which, I am still having difficulty figuring out how to
present my music by myself without looking like I'm ripping off Mr.Casanova.
I
been doing this for years, but the audience doesn't know that. Right
now I'm thinking about switching up instruments for different songs. I
could do it all through one amp too, since I have a keyboard amp. Maybe
I'll do a little improvised laptop show for a few minutes, then play a
song on an acoustic guitar, etc... One thing's for sure though...I'm
gonna set one of my toy keyboards on fire at the end of the show, and
I'm gonna end the show with a cover with Hey-ya. that'll be fun. If I
can sucessfully pull off a show, then that's what I'm gonna do all
summer long: the J-chot summer rock tour. man, that would be awesome. Last
friday was friday the 13th, and it's weird, every friday the 13th I've
ever had was a really awesome day. But fridays in general are awesome
days, and this friday was not too extra special. Have you ever had a
friend that you've known for a while and then you discover that she has
a identical twin? I did today, when my friend Danni's sister came and
visited. it was pretty cool because they were completely different
personalities. I went to a rock show thursday, and it was bitching.
Casio Cassanova made some coments that hurt my feelings though, and I
think I think I'm gonna ignore him for a while... Jihad, The Pink
Spiders, and Letters Organize also played and they were all wonderful.
BUT I DIDN'T GET ANY PHOTOGRAPHS BECAUSE MY DIGITAL CAMERA IS
MISSING!!!!!!!!! If any of you have come across a digital camera of any
kind, please don't hesitate to email me.... if you open the battery
door of it, it should say JV on the inside. and that's all I have to
say today!!!

OH SNIGGITY-SNAPOMAINNAME, I GOTS A DOMAIN NAME.
http://www.jchot.tk
It's so
COMPLETELY AWESOME and completely free! You
should get one! However, my stuff is
still hosted on stinky old geocities... Maybe someone can email me with
some links to free/cheap webhosting links. I need some reletively open
space (1 or 2 gigs) where my mp3s, art, and photos can roam free and
graze on the plentiful bandwidth, and you, the downloader, can access
them without any restrictions or be relocated to some other site. Yeah,
that would be cool.

I need to record more of my thoughts and feelings in this damn blog; "I
bought nunchucks" or "I got 82$" stinks. That information is too
sterile and flat. My friend Chris is working on a zine, and has secured
a load of positively awesome interviews with indie/cult heros from all
sorts of industries. I will post the link when I get it...We talked
about stuff today, and I
really don't get much of a chance to sit down and talk to Chris too
often. We're either at a rockshow, or passing each other at the
shopping center, and those places are just not fertile farming grounds
for the seeds of honest conversation. That last sentence was so lame.
But Chris does/has done almost all the stuff I do/did except on a
slightly larger and more sucessfull scale. He's got more gusto I
suppose. Except the t-shirt and button stuff, I still got a corner on
that market.
I think I'm gonna send an demo package to my heros, Tigerbeat6 records
I
just read in an interview with kid606 that said they're really
looking for music that doesn't sound like kid606, and I thought "Hey!
that's how MY music sounds!". I hope I'm experimental enough... but ya
know, when your paradigme is 10 steps behind the rest of the world,
that means you have 11 more steps than everyone else to climb, just to
be one step ahead. Every step is an experiment for me; I'm pushing my
envelope as hard as I can, and man, my arms are tired and I'm maybe
halfway there. I mean, dude, I still use modplug tracker, and I just
now discovered Ableton Live. I wish I didn't live in Alabama sometimes.
I should quit my bitching. I'm glad I picked the name J-chot to do
music under; Alot of artists change their name 2 or 3 times during
their musical timeline, but I don't think I'm gonna have that problem.
OK..... for some reason, I am using alot of metaphors in today's blog.
I guess even after all that music and art crap for all those years,
deep down, that juvinile poet is still alive, living off of disguarded
song lyrics and detailed observations. Jebus Sikes! when was the last
time I wrote poetry for poetry's sake?! It must have been my highschool
freshman year! (time to get back to roots) I'm gonna go write some
poetry right now. and it's gonna be hardcore freeverse. so.. I guess it
will be prose then... But then again, isn't that what I've been doing
here all along?
If the answering machine message was the artistic medium of the 90's,
then certainly, the Internet journal (blog) is that of the new millenium.
and on that note, Ima go get some munchies.

I gots nunchackus! Don't worry, they're practice ones, so they're made
of plastic and foam. That means that the probability of me hurting
myself or others is drastically reduced. I'm getting pretty good with
em too, for a big dumb "joe" who's only owned them for a day. My friend
Jacob was taught to use them when he was a kid, so he taught me a few
really basic techniques. I imagine my Bruce Lee movies are going to
come in handy...
In other John news, I have decided that sometime in the future I am
definitely getting a Mohawk. I'm probably going to wait untill it gets
a little warmer though. I also wrote and halfway recorded a song today,
which is pretty cool. I'm also working on a live set of some sort so I
can finally put on some sort of a performace. I think this one is going
to be some sort of electro-punk thing, but I'm not sure yet.

TODAY'S EPISODE:Pondering a Mohawk....

I think I'm gonna get a mo-hawk of some kind. Nothing flashy, something
long and low with it buzzed on the sides. I wish I had curly hair so I
could have a Jack-Osbourne Mo-hawk. Except mine would be manlier... And
less bitchy... and be on a non-fat head. Ok, nevermind about the
previous 3 sentences. If any of yous guys with mad
photoshop skillz, or opinions or stories about mohawks can help me out
here, drop me an email. in the
meantime, i'm gonna be looking up mohawks on google pictures.
Gee, this whole western thing has gotten out of control! It's become
downright legendary! This means I'm definitely going to have to write a
screen play now...

CHA-CHING!!!!!!
I made 82 $ selling merch at a rock show!!, so then I paid joe the 6 I
owed him for lunch, then, I paid dad the 35 I borrowed from him.. so i
got 40, which is still pretty good...I'ma gonna buy some music
equipment!

THE
SEARCH FOR A JOB CONTINUES......
Current listening: Trash80
Well money-less me needs a job. so far, the only perspectives seem to
be Hibbits sports, the airbrush place in the mall, and Pocket Change
(arcade in the local mall). THe Arcade job requires me to wait a
month, and I'm not sure if I want to do that. the airbrush place wants
me to make a resume, and I'm probably gonna do that. I'd love to know
how to airbrush, I think that would be a pretty neat and usefull skill.
Also, I could do some dope graffiti and get my clothing personalized.
The Hibbits job looks the most promising, they have an opening, and an
employee said that I could see him tuesday. I'd reeealy like to learn
how to airbrush though...
In creative news today I scored some inspiration today when I trekked a
whole 200 something yards to the Wendys from Books-a-Million in the
cold with my crazy friend Jarrod. He makes some awesome music. I'm
hopefully gonna drum in his band when I get my skillz up to snuff.
In internal conflict news I have yet to decide which musical path I am
to trod. Is trod a word? I would like to create and perform electronic
music live, but that requires equipment, and equipment requires money,
and Money I don't have.EM PROS: I rely on myself, and myself
only, no rehersal schedual, no practice space, full creative control,
less unpredictability, and lets face it, it's the future. EM CONS:
less audience, more $ required, more learning needed. If I sell my drum
kit, I could score some quick cash for some equip. ROCK PROS:
Jarrod and Craig (the band I will drum for in question) are musical
geniuses, and I know they will go far if they combine forces. No $
required, except for maybe finding rehersal space. big audience, I
already know how to rock bay-bee! ROCK CONS: at the mercy of my
band mates, I can't really drum that well, and I'm not exactly thrilled
about drumming. PRACTICE SPACE: major concern, I need to find some.
That's pretty much how the book reads.

FROM BLECHDOM

WELP,
school has started and I shall give some quick first impressions
of my teachers:
My English 102 teacher is a hoot. for some reason he reminds me of
Kevin Spacey. He's a middle-aged dude with a semi-dry sense of humor,
and he seems like a pretty good teacher. I honestly have to say that I
didn't learn very much with Mr. Garth. I don't think this will be a
problem this semester. My Western Civ. teacher seems very anal
retentive. she keeps focusing in and going in to detail about the
dumbest stuff. Like the spelling of archeology or the exact positioning
one empty desk. there were some other good examples, but I can't
remember them. I think this class shouldn't be too hard. My Biology 104
teacher is another old hippi. Except he's more of a hippi by philosophy
then by lifestyle. psudo-hippi. This class looks like it's going to be
reealy interesting and kinda hard at the same time. Finally, I have
Intermediate algebra, which should be pretty easy if I can make my ass
do the homework. There hopefully won't be anything I haven't seen
before...4 times. The teacher is an fourty something (estimate) easy
going black woman, who seems really nice.
I think this punk-rock chick I keep seeing in the Center Spot
(student lounge) likes me. That's pretty cool. All my classes are
morning classes except algebra (4 pm) and on Mondays, Wedsdays and
Fridays. So hopefully I can get a job..
In other John news, After
much consideration, I decided that the TR 505 sucks, and the bends
possible really aren't worth the amount of money it's worth. I'm
selling it on ebay. I wrote 3 new electronica songs in the past two
days, and finished 2 old ones! That's pretty rocking right there. I'm
gonna try to write one song a day, and see how that works. I wrote a gabber
song, weeeeee!
My finger is looking pretty damn good: evenly colored, less
sensitive, and better shaped, but I still can't feel the tip.
01/10/04
Ok, turns out it's not a big deal for undisclosed reasons, but
still it's a step in the right direction. I hope. maybe. kinda.
also, The TR-505 WORKS FINE! turns out that the individual volumes of
the instruments were turned down. yayy!!!! now I'm gonna circuit bend
it!!!
01/09/04
SWEET MOTHER OF MARY KATE!
I'M ON A RECORD LABEL!!!
Ok, I need to semmer down cause
it's not that huge of a deal.
Wait.. YES IT IS! kind of, I'm still unsure. Anyways, it's BedroomBrain Records,
and they are a brand new experimental electronica label based in
Wisconsin that
specializes in electronica that doesn't translate well to live
performances. hence, bedroom recordings type stuff. I sent him a
link to my mp3 site, then he sent me this
email: I'm a little unsure of his buisness practices, because It
appears to be non-contractual, but he doesn't copyright things.
"Just
so you know, we're not going to puts the words "copyright" anywhere on
the CD. All we will have is something like: "Released in January 2004,
BedroomBrain Records". You will of course retain all the rights to your
music; the only reason that we don't print a copyright notice is so we
don't get into trouble should you ever sign with another label. "
That's from their demo policy page. this is too:
"At present, all of our full-length CDs sell for
$8.00 USD (EPs sell for $6.00). Here's the clincher: we're going to
take 50% of all CD sale profits. That's right, you're only going to
make $4.00 per CD. It's really not that bad if you think about. We do
all of the artwork, printing, duplication and shipping. We'll send out
your CD to e-zines to get it reviewed (putting the favorable reviews on
your artist page), and we'll put your tracks on periodic promo
compilations for college and community radio stations. Plus, you'll
have the benefit of being able to say that you're on an independent
record label. If you don't want to make 50% of your album sales, then
you can always sign with a major label where they'll sell your CD for
$14.00 - $18.00 and you'll be lucky to get $1.00. "
I've
done research on major label record deals. All he says is true, and I
have friends who are on indie labels, and they say that's pretty much
standard indie royalties, since there generally isn't alot of money
involved. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is the fact
that there is no contract involved. I'm sure this guy means well, but
to be realistic I don't know him. I'm gonna try to get him to draw up a
contract. But I'm not gonna do anything untill I get my music
copyrighted. But all in all, I really have nothing much to lose.
Also, I'm a tad worried about the quality of the cd inserts, but I sent
him an email and I'm waiting for a response.Since
they are a new label and they have limited funds, their releases are on
cdr and in thin jewel cases. That's not too unusual, I mean you gotta
start somewhere.
In completely unrelated news, prior to said monumental event, I made a
music video for "Ode to Steve Buscemi"! it's just like the song:
quirky, lo-fi, simple, and made with what I had handy.
I bought a TR-505 on ebay the other day, but the bass, open hat,
and low conga sounds don't work, I asked
for a refund, and he
has yet to respond. I'm not too woried though, because he's got a
spotless ebay track record of broken items being refunded. In a related
story, this asshole named Paul Zakar from flordia stole my
$25.98 cause he never responded, refunded, or shipped the buttons I
ordered from him on ebay.

Unhappy New Year
cause I'm stuck at home and I think I made a mistake in getting a
drum-kit for christmas. oh well. I haven't been depressed in some time.
Remember those recorders I was making into a sampler? I trashed them in
a fit of cursing and rage after completely F*&king them up while
attempting to mod them. damn.
12/29/03
I went to another punk show at the Flying Monkey friday, and
it was great!! Not as good as the show on 12/13 , but waay better than
the ones at the Hotspot or the hardcore shows
The line-up was a bit smaller, but Casio
Cassinova and Alabama
Gihad more than rocked the house. The Gihad were better than last
time!It just seemed tighter and had... um.. more betterness. Casio
Cassanova was awesome! it was him, a cd player, and his electric
guitar. He was kicking out the synth punk jams right and proper! I
talked to him before the show and he mentioned that he also does
electronic sets live, or dj's sometimes. I think I want to try to play
electronic music with him.
In other news, I BENT A SPEAK
AND SPELL!!! WEEEE!!! and I'm getting pretty good at whipping up jams
on it. Rocking. I also got these 2 little weird hand held recorders
which I am crafting into a full fleged dual sampler!! pretty
bitching, eh?
I am slowly realizing that this blog is evolving more and more into a
very
personalized scene report.

HAIL SANTA!!!!

12/18/03
WOW!!!
Today rocked pretty hard if I do say so myself . Dad bought me A DRUM SET
FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!! HOOT!!!!I picked it out. It's a 5 piece
with used cymbals ! the drums themselves
were new and they were
cannons, which I heard were pretty good for cheaper drums. I got
it all for 450$. I think it was a darn good deal if you ask me... It
came with a weird wuhan china cymbal that I'm probably not going to
use, so if you know anone who would be interested in buying it , email me.
We also have a visiting cat!! She
is so very sweet, but the permanent resident cats don't seem to agree
with me at all. Mom wanted a new kitten for christmas and dad got a
used cat (2 years, no warrenty) from a co-worker, but mom is having
second thoughts after seeing the reaction of the indiginous cat
population of the Verchot household. oh well. Dad says the owner
would take her back if it didn't work out, and she would find
another home for her.
So this week, I have lost a finger tip, but gained a drum set and a
cat! Sounds like the most bizzare trade-off ever.
12/16/03
Well Guess what I did today... no... no, not that...and not that
either. I cut the tip of my index finger on my left hand off today! Not
any bone or anything. it was skin and some nail. I cut it at an angle
and took off a chunk about a quarter of an inch thick from the side of
my finger. I'll post a picture as soon as I get to unbandage it.
I'm sure you'll be looking forward to it.The doctor put some anesthetic
in my finger, which acually hurt more than cutting off a chunk of it.
The doctor wanted to leave it off, but I asked him to sew the piece
back on because I was a musician, and he did, but he didn't think it
was going to take. I don't think it's going to take either, but I hope
it will. I probably won't be able to play the bass for a long time, and
I won't be able to play the guitar for a even longer time. Drums look
promising. I don't think there was any nerve damage, so that's
good. I did it with a safety razor while I was carving a piece of
wood for a bridge of an instrument I was making.
This really sucks.
12/13/03
WOO
that was FUN!!!
Last night's
bands
were totally bitching!!
everyone was really, really great. I was really surprised.
Without any warning, The
Commie Hammers took the stage and started kicking out the
jams
like a meat grinder shooting out hot dogs. In
comparison to their last concert I saw, They are
10 times
better when they aren't drunk. the next band, Eyes Around, wasn't a
punk rock band, but they had their stuff down and together nicely.
They were good, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Then came The Pink
Spiders, they rocked out. Hard. like not just regular hard, more like
igneous. What REALLY impressed me about them, was the fact that
they could dance and play at the same time. they put on a REALLY good
show. They sound 50 times better live then they do on their site.
Then the Alabama
GI-had came on, and I was floored. one the best
shows I've ever been to. towards the end, the guitarist/singer
got pissed about something; I think his guitar messed up. then he
whipped out a theremin,
and all hell broke loose. my batteries went dead halfway through the jihad, which really pissed ME
off, because
he looked really awesome playing a theremin. I didn't get near as
many pics as I wanted because I was too busy running my little
merchandise stand. I got allot of
pics of The Jihad because I closed my stand
before they went on. ALAS!! I couldn't find my
tape recorder before I left in time to make a bootleg.
CURSES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really sad about that, cause It was a stellar
concert. I would reccomend seeing all of the bands mentioned
herein. Sadly I will not be able to make it to the Saturday night
show, because my parents are going out of town and I gotta hold
down the fort and watch after my siblings. They are 16 and 14. My mom
is incredibly paranoid. I don't do drugs, I don't drink and I
don't even smoke, and what do I get for my good karma?
restrictions. HEY! that's my first angry blog!! am I emo now?
~~Pictures~~
In a related story, I made 48$ in sales, then after I paid Flying
Monkey their Commission, I had 38, which
is
still nothing to sneeze at. I could have made ALOT more dollaz if
I had
gotten my lazy ass to MAKING MORE MERCHENDISE!!!! The recently unveiled
MTV SUCKS design took off like a rocket, and I was poorly stocked. I
also need to make more patches. I really think that If you are a
band, you should make merch. Makes it 10 times easier to make
enough money for that shiny new drum kit/PA/amp or touring funds.
Or simply enough cash to buy dinner for the band that night.
hell, I don't even have a band, and look how much I made. Then you too,
can
have satisfied customers like this one!

HOLY SNAPS!
I
completely forgot about this damned
thing!!
I went to
an eighties dance saturday night and it was pretty fun, but
I'd wish more people turned up. I ran into some people from the hot
spot punk show I went to about a month ago, Insidentally they were some
of the
band ALABAMA
JIHAD. Damn those kids know how to dress. and as usual I
FORGOT MY CAMERA!!! Mel and Margret showed up, holly, her ex and some
other dude with them showed up as well. The dj was ok and the band was
pretty good. But more importantly I learned of the Flying Monkey arts center
which looks like the tastiest performance venue so far!! It's a
ca-hool little gallery thingy that has a large garage
like thing
where bands can play. and the whole thing is run by awesome open artsy
people!!! ROCK!! I think this is gonna be the place to be for the next
little while.
I got 4 of
my paintings accepted at a little gallery in decatur on 2nd
ave!! HURRAH
OH MAN! I
got like, 3 DIFFERENT ROCK SHOWS THIS WEEKEND along with
FINALS NEXT WEEK!!!! Theres 2 going on friday and one sat. I have
to decide between Hartselle hardcore and Huntsvile punk rock. My
friends' 2 bands Coming Home soon And New Year's Resolution are
playing at the hardcore one and I really want to go see them... but ALABAMA
GIHAD and THE
COMMIE HAMMERS are playing at flying monkey on the 12th, at 8:30!!!
CURSES!!!!!!
I think I'm
gonna go to the huntsville shows, and try my very hardest
to sell merch there, although I know I would suceed better at the
hardcore show.
oh well.

DAMN I'M LAZY!
I ment to do this entry
four days ago!
I went to an Open Mike
Night Wednsday, at the Calhoun Community
College in Huntsville, and It was pretty cool. I guess I expected
a different audience, because when I got ther I was one out of about 5
caucasians in the whole room. It seems I neglected to notice that the
open mike night was sponsered by a black arts club of some sort, I
probably would have gone anyways. They had a small stage and 2 jazz
musicians improviseing to the poetry and music! That was pretty
bitching. I kept a low profile while about 6 or 7
speakers/singers/poets did their thing so I could scope out the scene,
and figure out how to sign up. I head alot of great poetry
that sadly, I could not relate to, but it was a pretty supportive
environment none the less. I walked out to my car to get some of my
notebooks, and I signed up and read one poem and one prose the first
time. I don't think they got my abstract poetry, but they seemed to
enjoy my prose pretty well. So I waited a while and went back to sign
up another time (several other people did this as well) and I read 2
more (more down to earth) prose/monologues that were recieved pretty
well. at about 9:00pm I made a swift exit, and imediatly
proceeded to get lost on the way back to Decatur. All in all, it was a
pretty nifty experience.
In creative news,
Last week, I was in creative overdrive and I
seemed to write a new song almost everyday! my songwriting process has
changed quite a bit and the songs seem to center around music more than
lyrics as usual. That, and they don't read like a comedy routine. This is
a welcome change and I am very pleased with myself. One of these songs are posted on my Iuma
account ! It looks like I might be getting a drum kit for my
birthday! I CAN FINIALLY START A BAND!!!!!
I hope...
I PROMISE I will update
more often.....

Current Listening: At the
Drive-in
Recently, I found
myself asking the question, "What is Emo?" so I
decided to conduct a scientific study. I set out in google with little
success, untill I discovered the emo rosetta stone fourfa.com.This site explains
everything! So insted of conducting my own research, I just read the
website, and proceeded to go on a downloading spree. Turns out
all the bands we hear now are almost all 4th or 5th generation emo
bands. I liked some of it and didn't like alot of it, but it all
was rather interesting. Perhaps this will help broaden my skills as a
songwriter. Lord knows they need that.

SWEET SUCCESS!!!
HOOT! I went to yet
another hardcore show at this little rented space
in hartselle. and I set up a table with my merch and made a little over
50$!!! SCORE! I'm gonna try to get a website with my t-shirt and patch
designs on'em, and make MORE T-shirts!! Turns out, my friend's band
"Coming home soon" had put the show on! this was a complete surprise
for me, and they rocked the f-king house. Alot of my friends were there
and I had a great time!!!

WOO! I went to a punk
rock show in Huntsville! It was fun on a bun! I
also got to test some of the aformentioned merchendise I had been
working on. I sold a shirt! YAY!!!!! the jackets may be a more
difficult sale. I'm open for suggestions on shirt ideas . right now I
got "I smoke rock and roll as if it were crack cocaine" "not about the
benjamins", and the simplistic, "hardcore" designs. I'm working on some
more.
the bands that played
were The Dick Magnets, an almost all girl
band that wasn't half bad; Public Offence: the band with the oldest
people in it; The Commie Hammers (my favorite) , a punk rock trio who
were the smoothest there; and Dream Killer , the Quasi-professional
touring band from LA. Dream killer were definitely the best music wise,
but their vocalist's stylings were just a bit too harsh for me. still
good though. I don't know what it was about the commie Hammers
that made me like them the most, but I liked the overall finished
product. As Usual, I
got some pics
Now I REEALY wanna
start a band, but I NEED SOME F-ING DRUMS!!! or a
f-ing drummer with some f-ing drums.
Whichever comes first. Dude
said that they have shows like that about twice a month.
I'm making patchwork
pants.

Well, halloween this year wasn't so bad. Last year sucked, but Ima not
gonna go into it. I dressed as a "Millionare Playboy" with my captain
hat, wine glass, white jacket and suit. I got pics. then I got MAAAAAAD
creative with some pumpkins! I also went to a battle of the bands
competition where my friend jacob's band, stonegate, won. YAY!
Now I'm not an industrial death metal fan, but I must say, they are
quite good! A very polished act and very good performance. alot of my
friends showed up and we all had fun. I took a few pics....
then I went over to a friends house to watch some scary movies I kinda
wished I'd stayed for the rest of the rock show though.
I still need a drum kit. Today I went to the flea marketwith my sis,
andy and Holly to buy some stuff for christmas, but I couldn't
think of anything to buy for anyone! oh well. I need to make a list of
names I suppose. Damn I'm tired. GOODNIGHT!
10/29/03 11:11 pm
*YAWN* man, the past few days have sucked. I got fired from Joe muggs
after one day. It seems they took me being friendly and relaxed
as "having a wrong attitude" and "not taking it seriously". Well,
if getting my haircut and spending 40$ on pants before I even
know I have the job isn't taking it seriously, well what the fuck is it
then? For those of you who don't know me, the last time i cut my hair
was for graduation. I love my hair, it's very important to me, and I
don't lop it off for just anyone. I don't understand. I did all my work
and more and I learned how to work the register and make about 4
different drinks in one day. I think they
just don't like me. Now I'm out of a
job AND a hang-out. I'm gonna stay at the record store from now-on, so
if you ever go looking for me, don't look in books a million. What
really pisses me off is that the manager acts like my friend, so when I
return the friendlness it must be "disrespect" If she wants me to
act like I hate he, she sure accomplished that. I guess I shouldn't
have talked too much to people, but I didn't think I talked very much
at all.
Now that that's out of my system I can discuss a few lighter items:
It's official: I'm a fashion designer. My latest money making scheme
involves punk-rock-a-fying clothing and selling it. Expect pics and an
online store soon. Right now, I'm thinking about calling it either
secondhand, or D.I.M. fashion (I do it myself so YOU don't have to!)
or I might just call it somthing else...
oh well.

JEBUS SIKES I am such a procrastinator!!!!!
If you live in Decatur and drive around, you may have noticed a
well-dressed bearded old black man standing on the corner of
intersections tapping the ground with his staff, I've decided to
dedicate a website to the enigmatic character that I've decided to call
"the
Street Shaman". I finally got the guts
to
talk to him for a short while and learned he was taking "Spiritual
inventory". he was seeing which people were on the right and
which
people were on the left. he explained to me that the people on the left
were like the wheat and the sheep (I assume passive), and that the
people on the right were the rightous and more like the goats and the
(I can't remember the other simile because I'm a dumbass). then he said
to me: "You are very lucky my friend, for you are a person on the
right, and today is a day for people on the right!" It was one of those
magical moments that youknow you're gonna remember for the rest of your
life.
ON A MORE SUPERFICIAL LEVEL- I went thrifting with the gorgeous and
beautiful and kind and lovely Kristina White and I bought a yahmaha
shs-10 for 10$!!! it's usually goes for 50-75$ on ebay!!! it's a
keytar synth with a midi out so it can be used as a controller for a
more expensive synth. it also sounds like a sega genesis. cool beans.
Me and Jarrod and Craig were talking about starting a band. But first,
we need a drummer with drums, or just some drums. acually I kinda
joined their band that they had been theorizing about for some time now
:Exploding Blood. But so far it's only been talk.
I bought a switchblade comb! WOO-HOO!

YAWN!,
I am so tired! not sure why though. I really like this girl I'm
dating.
My new bass amp works like a dream! 150 watts of pure extacy. I have a
guitarist and a drummer!...but no drums.... I think I'm gonna invest in
a drum kit. I hope that Zach (not Zach Graham) lets me buy his old kit
he's gonna let me have it for 50$!!! but it needs new heads. BASS

that's about it for today.

Man, today was HELLA TIGHT!! it ROXXORED my SOXXORS!!and all that other

drummer, but I need a big guitar amp and a drumkit, but I have leads
for a drumkit. and talked about starting a graphic design
get-up-thing-a-ma-jig with art dude Vic, who made me this awesome

WOA THERE! been a while hasn't it? that's because whenever I sit
down at the computer I start up a game of diablo 2. Alot of stuff has
happened. I went to a hardcore show at Calvry Assembaly. it was...
well...hardcore. very loud, very noisy, and a great deal of mosh-age
the kids were all pretty nice though. this re-vitalized my
intrest in punk-rock and I'm gonna start a band. I'm thinking somewhere
between the ramones, motorhead, and early Ween. so If you're
interested, play drums or own a drum kit, or play guitar, email-me
right now the name "the Crisco Trio" seems to stick in my mind. The
show as also inspired me to dig up alot of my old songs I wrote in
early highschool, and write a few new songs or expand on previous ideas
and half-written songs. I talked to the guy who organizes the shows,
and he says that he'll let me/us play as long as the music is
relatively positive and we give him a demo. rock. We can also sell
merch. rock harder. I think Zach will
probably let me use his re-hersal room, but I gotta ask him first.
speaking of Zack,
we had a nice Jam this sunday. I whipped outmy harmonica and blues-ed
my way around it and I also got Ethel
back!
I missed sweet, sweet Ethel,
and later that
evening we made sweet sweet music together.
What else happened....OH YEA! I have a new romantic interest now,
Mrrraow!
that's all I'm gonna say about that one. And that she's a hottie. It's
not Ethel by the way, although she will always be true and there for
me.

Welp, Nothing out of the ordinary happened in the past two days, aside
from my sister paying a visit.
Here's a few random thoughts: I want a tatoo of a Devo hat on my hip or
thigh. Why did Zach use
the the name Elroy?! I need a new four-track. the analog just
ain't cutting it, and I can't plug my good microphone into the
computer. I have a 98 Average in Biology (bring it around town!) . The Black keys
are awesome. Blues as hell. So is the Mars Volta.
They aren't blues.
10/05/03 12:08 am
Wow today was great. I mowed my grandparents grass, went record
shopping and hung out a books a million. First of all I'd like to
introduce you people to my latest obsession: the 99cent Wendy's jr.
bacon cheese burger. THEY'RE F***"N AWESOME!!!! AND THEY'RE A
DOLLAR!!!! Go get one. now. they're open till 1am.
Now that I got that out of my system, I'll tell you about the records I
got. I got cargo and two hearts-both by men at
work, the joe jackson band-beat crazy,
the axel theme from beverly hills theme cop, and YES! jim carrol-
catholic boy!!! HOT DAMN!!!!!!!!!
My sister is coming home this weekend! HURRRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the past two days have been extreemly introspective. I've been
discussing life alot with old friends. I feel old and young at the same
time. technology is moving too fast, and culture is moving too slow
10/02/03 9:46 am
Man, yesterday was crazy! I went to my first math class only to
discover that not only was the teacher going at double time on the
material, but it was a material that I was exceedingly slow at:
MATH!!!!!!!!! man, I hate math with a firery passion of
which possesses a tempature of
hatred
that rivals that of satan's furnace it's self. BUT fortunately I was
able to drop out of that class and get a full refund, but I'm gonna try
to take it next year AT REGULAR SPEED. the teacher by the way had a
bizzare accent that sounded like someone irish living in the south
after a few years.
In music news, a prototype of my new old song, David Flowers and Pie is up. I'm
gonna replace the synth bass with a real bass and try to get my guitar
wizard friend Zach
Graham to whip up a better solo and possibly more guitar parts.
we're gonna try to bang-out a few tracks sometime this weekend. In fact
, if you go to his site
right now, you can get a little blues jam that we whipped up a while
back, and yes, that's really me singing! I'm doing my best Billy
Gibbons impression. I don't remember what prompted me to improvise
lyrics about a chubby chaser being crushed by a 400 pound white woman,
but it had somthing to do with a lyric zach came up with. he's a
twisted lyricist and way more musically creative than me.
In personal news, I wish I was more poetic when I write songs. But NO!,
my songs all end up sounding like weird al rejects. Couldn't I have A
LITTLE bit of whimsy or fantasy-esque imagery? But alas... I am not the
one who dictates what I write.... the great Inspirato dictates that,
and right now it says to write a song about internal conflict over my
own southern culture, or how my own stupidity suddenly pops up
and fowls things up for me.
OH I found my keys a while ago, turns out my mom had them and she
didn't even know it.

ENORMOUS WEEKEND OF BIGSPRING JAM-EGE
Yup this weekend I went to big spring jam and saw abunch of great bands
and spent entirely too much money. (on food mostly) For those of you
who don't know, big spring jam is a yearly 3-day concert-festival
thingy that's held in the fall, despite the name. I bought a
weekend pass in advance, then left it at home, so I had to put
down another 20 to buy a day pass for that day. that sucked. hard. But
on the first day I went with my buddy Zach Graham,
his girlfriend, and my
little sister. I saw Alice
Cooper and Moe and not from too bad a
distance if I may say so myself. I didn't really stick around Moe
for too long, cause I wasn't really a fan. Alice
Cooper was
awesome. He's really buff for an old dude and was all over the place,
which made it really hard to get a good picture in such poor lighting.
oh well. better luck next time. I bought a coke, I think.
Saturday
was the best day! I saw Blues Traveler (who f*cking rocked the house!)
and The
Wailers (who f*cking owned!) . I also saw some lesser known
bands: Mysterious Goo (my friend's band), the Daves, Reggae Mystic, and
some really crappy noise band who went on before The
Wailers. I saw The Daves that
afternoon shortly after I
drove myself there and they were
suprisingly great for a band being booked so early in the day. They
were kinda old, but they had this great sort of talking heads-elvis
costello vibe to them, something you don't hear everyday. they
played entirely original songs and I caught one of their free
cds! I didn't exactly catch it, more or less it bounced off my
hand and the case shattered on the ground. The cd was ok though! later
that evening I saw
The Wailers (Bob Marley's band, minus bob ), who ROCKED so hard that
...something...awesome...happened. they were so tight and gnarley. one
of bob's kids (not ziggy) was the singer and he was a very good
stage performer. I was RIGHT up front, but I seemed to be the only guy
in my general vicinity who was like "Oh my god, it's the Wailers!"
everyone else was just waiting for saliva. but the croud soon grew to
appreciate them. The trombonist pointed and nodded to me on several
ocaisions. I think it had something to do with my captains hat and
general exuberance. Rock. Stupid me left early to get a good spot for
Blues traveller, Oh well, Sugar Ray also played on another stage
at the same time that the wailers performed. I wanted to see them cause
I hear they have an awesome live show. oh well. I secured a nice spot
for Blues traveller, althought not near as nice as my position for the
wailers. they were REALLY good live! John
Popper was phenominal and their guitarist had such fluidity
and movement in the way he played. it looked like he was dancing with
it almost.
it was then that my knees, feet and lower back gave out, and I grabbed
a chair and sat in the back. Stupid me left early again. I ate one
corndog, chicken on a stick, a coke, 2 waters and...I think that's it.
The third Day was pretty anti-climactic. I rode there with Holly, Lee,
and Melia. I saw a few opening bands for String Cheese then
string cheese themselves. I had a really good spot, but then I realized
that I'm not really a very big fan of this band. I should have gone and
seen herman's hermits or .38 special. oh well. I pulled my trusty
folding chair out again and sat to the right side of the stage. then I
noticed all the hippies dancing and decided to join them. My hip-hop
dance style strongly contrasted the freeform twirling and dance that
the hippies employed, so I followed their lead and peppered my
particular style lightly throughout the performance. It was really fun
and I think a news team turned a camera on us. I busted some grooves
for the camera, but made sure that my back was facing it THIS time.(
I've had my jive'n on the tv before!)
people who know me would have probably recognised me, but I have no
clue who taped me or what channel. I recieved several compliments
on my slammin' groovemaster style, which made me feel really
great. then I pooped out and returned to my chair. it was really cold.
I probably should have kept dancing. All in all,I had a bitch'n good
time! Yoda made
a guest apperance in the audience. I ate 1 corndog, a blooming onion,
one water, and part of a non-alcholic strawberry dacqiury. (how do you
spell that?!)

10:14 pm
Welp, I'm gonna have to say that the past 2 days have been rather
un-eventful. I stayed at home all sunday, and I went through my normal
monday routine today. Wait, that's not true.. I couldn't find my keys,
and I had to call my dear aunt Martha to drive my little brother to
school. I turned the house upside down and my keys were no-where to be
found, My dad got angry with me. we both searched the house and they
were still nowhere to be found, finally I had to go to the locksmith
and get new keys made. that was my adventure for the day... also today,
I finished a sculpture that I made for my friend holly's bithday. I
can't post pictures yet, cause I haven't given it to her, but I will
say that I'm proud of it. I think I might even have a little trouble
parting with it....NAAAAA!
9/20/03 9:46 pm
Oh man, I had a ridiculous amount of fun this weekend. On friday
morning I went thrifting with my friend Holly and we had
CRAAAAAAZY-gonuts fun! then later that evening we went to a priceville
football game, It seems that at football games there, half the people
watch the game in the stands and the other half stands around and
talks. They're more of a social event than a sports event. I did not
know this, so when I was walking to the stadium I commented "That's the
longest line to the concession stand I've ever seen!" I had so
much fun that day, that I suffered from fun-withdrawl today. it was a
tad painful. Today, I went to this bookstore/tanning salon and picked
up some bitching comic books such as: "Boris ,The Bear of Steel"
and "hampster vice". and who could forget such classics as "Samuri
Squirrel"or "Mort the dead teenager". I also picked up some
better known titles like "toxic avenger" and "Ninja turtles". But alas,
on this ENTIRE weekend of fun, dumbass me did't bring a camera to
ANYTHING I DID!!!!
oh well...
Here's
that painting I did the other day...
My space bar is broken.

Man. Yesterday, I got bit by mosquitos like 28 times within a period of
3 min!! I was sitting on a picnic table that was near some
bushes, trees, and woodpiles. ITCHY! It got better in about 45 min so
that was cool. I'm still listening to that bitching Mountain album. It
rocks harder than chineese algebra.
Lately
my lifestyle seems to consist of waking up early, taking my
brother to school, surfing the web for about an hour, then painting and
listening to records until I have to go to class. sometimes I
paint for 2 or so hours then go hangout somewhere for a little while.
My lifestyle could be described as leasurely at best, but I'm being
productive. It's not like I'm playing videogames.
I've been
working on about 5 paintings at once and I finished one today. It's a
creepy pencil. I'll post a picture tomorrow.
Word
out on the street is that somthin' is getting together this weekend.
It involves thrifting.

GOTS MY
HI-FI SET UP!!!
(dear god, I am grody in this picture!)
I engulfed myself in a bath of pure vinyl extacy this morning, The more
I listen, the more It seems that some vinyl SOUNDS BETTER than cds.
It's suprising. I also discovered that the devo record I got was
F**ed up to hell and back, I must have been blindsided by the fact that
it was devo. oh well, 3$ down the poop-chute. My current listening for
today was really awesome, I bought it at the army, cause I liked the
way it looked(what's life without alittle risk?) and it rocks hard
tastey abs washer-board style. Very molly-hachet-esque (acid?) Prog
hard rock. reminds me of ween's first album. That's kinda weird. I'm
gonna try to update this puppy AT LEAST every other day; That is
providing nothing interesting happens that particular day. In other
John-related news, I have to take my little brother to school everyday
now...BUT I also get free gas via DAD!! good trade off if you ask me.I
also cut-and-paste the first couple entry's into the ARCHIVE
section
NOTE TO SELF: Buy more albums with fantasy art and dramatic heavy metal
names.

Holy crap do I have alot of things to write about! GUESS what I did
today. I tried out for american Idol! I didn't win. I guess I didn't
have enough hip-hop "flava". I was going to the mall just to walk
around for a bit and see who was there, when I noticed my friend Quincy
singing a song on a little stage. Apon closer examination I discovered
it was tryouts for Alabama Idol; I.E. American Idol. My friend jessica
Jokingly suggessted that I tryout. So I did. After all, I had a
reputation as a "Zaney Unpredictable Stunt Guy"(ZUSG) to uphold.
I sang "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" by Burt Bacharach. I sang it
pretty well; the judges were stunned that I knew who Burt Bacharach
was. But alas, I didn't make it to the top five. apon futher
examination afterwards though, I discovered that I was reeealy close,
Like top ten, but that's practically the story of my life. I shoulda
taken my shirt off and sang "touch me babe" by The Doors.
The two days before that I went to Riverfest. It was awesome. For those
of you who don't know what riverfest is, It's a barbaque cook-off
between the best bbq-ers around the southern half of the States.
(northerners showed up too, but there were only a few.) there was also
kiddie-stuff like bungee castles and the stuff. my friend's bands
Mysterious Goo, and Residual played as part of the musical
entertainment. They got crappy time spots cause they're young (12-1,
2-3) But they were way better than some of the crusty old cover bands
that played there. Last year, Blue Rue and Rollin' in the Hay played,
and that was f*kkn' awesome! All in all, I had some of the best
damn bbq I had ever had in my life, (costly, but GOOD!!!!) and I also
saw this
guy. He was rocking an awesome
dickies Jump suit, side-burns,
a pomp, and that Oh-so-cool pipe.Massive style points.

Today was pretty fricking cool man,
I woke up at an unusually early time for me this morning (6 am!), so
that gave me PLENTY of time to do a bunch of goofing off and
productive stuff! I painted a little, danced around the house to some
daft punk, watched Bowling
for Columbine. It's one of those movies that can change the way you
feel about something for the rest of your life and make you cry and
laugh in a period as short as 5 min. Highly reccomended. At about 2:00
I went by books-a-million and picked up a job application; Word on the
street is that they have a part-time job in the cafe that needs
filling. Acually my friend Erik told me. So when the manager is there,
I'm gonna walk right up to her, look her dead in the eye and give her a
firm hand-shake. I always do that sort of thing, but Erik tells me that
she's a sucker for that charisma stuff. on my way to sixth ave, I
thought I'd take a look in there for records. score. bigtime. I
got 3 police albums in near mint condition, flock of seagulls in NM,
....and I can't remember what the others were. THis was kinda painful
though, because I am short of cash, being that I'm "between jobs." oh
well. You know what they say, records before food!

Whoops! forgot about the blog!
Well lets see what happened is the past week: I mowed my grandparents lawn,
bought some 45's at a labor-day thrift store sale (which included DEVO,
Rick James, Billy Joel, and a disco version of the wizard of Oz
theme.), ran into a weird lady at books-a-million who said that the
carnigee musium might be interested in my work."its called outsider
art!" Last
sunday, I quit my job at sonic, (fast food sucks),Shortly thereafter I
wrote the smash hit: "I quit my job at sonic"
Turns out that Jansen's not gonna open a new store anyways, but
this guy who works at Books-a-million I know is buying his stock and
opening up a new store on danville road. He says it's gonna be
the ultimate hang out, but I'm a little worried about his buisness
sense. I fear he may spend too much on stupid stuff before he makes any
money. I reeealy hope he's sucessful though.

Well yesterday and today have been rather uneventful If I do say so
myself. tuesday afternoon I ran by Jansen's store only to discover it
still hadn't opened yet. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. Today I
went by a thrift store that's fairly close to my college and found a
new silly hat.; Picture will be posted soon... last night I whipped up
a new song on my 4-track and remastered it this morning. It needs to be
re-mastered again. I also started recording a song I had in my mind
(and on paper) for a while, I think "David Flowers and Pie" is
gonna be a #1 summer jam when it's finished. even if it's not summer. I
am really confused about what I want to do with my life. right
now I'm leaning towards freelance painter-sculptor-graphic
designer-photographer-composer-dj-musician. Like I said, I'm
really confused about what I want to do with my life.

Well, this weekend was pretty fun, I hung-out at the usual places, saw

Kingdom. Jansen(owner) says that he's gonna pay me to paint him a
new sign, so that's really cool. I already got a couple of ideas in my
head. I sent in subscriptions to 2 magazines that I had been
buying at books-a-million for a while, so that was cool. got the latest
issue of xlr8r
magazine, which had a cover
story on my favorite electronica label. bought this Miles Davis cd. In
retrospect, I spent alot of money this weekend... not good. well, at
least I didn't spend it on something stupid like food.

Ahh what a nice
day!
got up early (8 is early enough) , walked into the
family room and laid down about 4 really kicking grooves on the
computer!. feeling pretty psyched about that I got ready for
school, then danced around the room like a madman to some Junior Senior. then went to
school. then when I came home, I found my cell phone that had been
missing for 3 days! that rocked.
SILLY
HAT TIME!!!

KRAKOW
is
the funniest comic ever! start from the beginning when you read it.
well let's see, Yesterday I went to Walmart and got a new backpack, ran
into about 5 people I knew and had long conversations with all of them,
and that was cool. My old art teacher, Mrs. Lee was there and I had a
nice discussion with her. You may have noticed that I have added my art
to the column on your left. check it out, it's neat, I promise
WHat?! now ALL
my
blogs have to be funny now?!

Well
it's official now. My
English teacher is crazier than me.
He looks like Davy Jones (the Monkees),
sounds like a very young Burl Ives,
and has no sense of internal
monologue. Obscenly nice guy. aside from that observation,
yesterday was pretty mellow, went to english and bio at the
'Houn. I recorded parts of a song I had floating around my head to four
track so that was really good.

Well,
yesterday was ok I suppose. I
got new shelves for my room! I got all my stuff organized. that was
about it really, cause I stayed home all day and worked on my homework
and my room.

Yesterday was
alot of
fun, After work, I went down to the Hartselle
flea market to try to score some vinyl. I walked away with
DEVO-Freedom of
Choice
and ZZ Top-Deguello. awesome sauce. I also
managed to get these awesome little buddah statuettes. You know, like
the ones at zero gravity? Except this nice Indian lady (not
native american) was selling them for reasonable prices. I got a pack
of 6 that were about 3 in tall for 6 bucks. that's right... I picked up
a six-pack
of buddahs.
she also had a
plethora of kung fu dvds (the hong kong variety fool!).
I shall return. the flea market is an awesome place to be man. there
was even someone selling pet birds. how cool is that?

To my surprise,
I
don't have work today!! WEEEE!! I showed up
only to
discover that the work schedual had been changed, and that I was
relieved of my fast food duty. I put some cool stuff in that
small
column to the left. You should check it out. it'll ROXXOR your
SOXXORS. I'm not sure what that means yet, but I am led to believe that
it's a positive comment.

WEEEEEE!
I got a blog! now I can join the masses of angst wrought
teens across the world! oh... maybe I should re-consider this idea;
there's no angst in me at all, and I'm almost not a teen anymore...oh
well. I'm sure it will work anyways. I just started college yesterday
at the local, yet lovely, Calhoun Community College.they have a cat
that lives there named speck I think. he usually chills behind the
admissions building, and the faculty feed him regularly. They even take
him to the vet and give him shots yearly. The cat has a little cat
house and everything.
