George Leonard Darby was born in the town of Morphett Vale South Australia in about 1850.
By the mid-1870's he had travelled to England.
He married Martha Alice Miller in the last quarter of 1875 in Altrincham at 25 years of age. Martha was born in about 1850 in the Lancashire city of Preston, the daughter of Robert Miller and Mary Wilson.
George and Martha, both in their early thirties, became the parents of Elsie Florence Darby on April 4th, 1884 in the Lancashire town of Chorlton-upon-Medlock. She was one of three girls born to them. He resided at 103 Oxford Street, in Chorlton in April 1884. At this time his occupation was given as as an umbrella manufacturer.
In the early 1900's his occupation was believed to be a civil servant, however his wife's death certificate describes him as "Out of Business" in the 1920's.
George became a widower at 71 years of age with the death of his wife Martha. He resided in Fullarton SA in the last stage of his life at the Home for Incurables in Fisher Street. George died on July 3rd 1926 in Fullarton SA, at 76 years of age. The cause of death was a combination of senile decay and cerebral haemorrhage (usually associated with high blood pressure) at the Home for Incurables in Fisher Street.
His body was interred at North Road cemetary presumably in early July 1926.
George Leonard Darby and Martha Alice Miller had the following children:
Edith Darby (who married Sydney Brown)
Mabelle Gertrude Darby (who married William Gilbert).
