Attitude
James 1:2-3
How many times in your life have you ever heard the saying "It's all about attitude."? Not so long ago, when I was a teenager, I can remember the times getting "the look". You know, that look that only a Mom can give you when you have done something wrong. Mom would always tell me that it wasn't what I said but how I said it. That meant I needed to check my attitude.
As a follower of Christ, we are called to be the light of the world. Many times, we are the only "Jesus" that people will see. I can think of countless times where my own attitude doesn't bring glory to God. Galatians 5:22-23 talks about the fruits of the spirit, with love being the greatest. Of the different fruits, joy always sticks out to me. I can think of so many things that make me joyful. Seeing others receive Christ, getting married, getting good grades, new guitars, the list goes on and on. What about when times are tough? When you are having a bad day, and things never seem to go right. Do you find joy in those times? The Bible is clear that we are to have joy in good times and bad.
In the book of James, we learn that Christ commands us to consider it pure joy when we face tough times or trials in our life. When our faith is tested, the outcome is perseverance. It is an incredible testimony to the world when our faith in Christ far outweighs our tough circumstances. The world will never want what we have in Jesus if we don't show them that He is the God of good times and bad. Next time a trial comes your way, consider it pure joy and remember that how we live is a reflection of He who lives in us!
