SPINDLETOP REFUGE

Leah Purcell has single-handedly owned and operated Spindletop for fifteen years. She has worked hard to build Spindletop's positive reputation with local law enforcement, animal control, shelters and other rescues, district attorneys and breed fanciers both locally and across the nation. She runs several home based businesses to pay for the rescue efforts out of her own pocket, which totals over $4,000 monthly on average. A paid kennel staff is needed to allow Leah to handle and train the dogs several times daily. Leah has owner-handler titled several of her personal American Staffordshire & Pit Bull Terriers in conformation as well as obedience, lure-coursing, agility and other fun events. She has been an expert witness on the breed in several court cases and courts nationwide have entrusted the care of seized dogs to Spindletop. Leah also shares her home with cats, rescued potbelly pigs and pigeons.

Not yet pictured but necessary to Spindletop's success are Leah's parents, who devote much of their time to caring for the dogs along with the paid kennel staff of three. The rescued dogs are given top quality care to keep their minds and bodies active with their assistance.

Spindletop dogs save lives! Our rescued dogs are in the canine blood donor program and provide emergency transfusions to dying pets. All program dogs are certified free of blood borne disease. We give back to our community!

Legal Services provided by Zandra Anderson and Tina Vernon, both loving adopters of Spindletop Orphans. Grooming and skin treatments offered by Petco by Michelle. We are an IRS nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible. Members in good standing with the AKC Staffordshire Terrier Club of America and the UKC National American Pit Bull Terrier Association, Southern States Rottweiler Rescue Incorporated, Responsible Pet Owners Alliance Incorporated, National American Bulldog Rescue Alliance. Kennel facility, volunteer work & a LARGE portion of funding done by Ed & Louise Purcell.
