Style Notes
Many of the articles and reviews shown in Tales of the Ancient Rocker were written at a time when reporters for mainstream publications had to call a performer "Mr. Presley" and explain who he was. In covering Woodstock, reporters had to explain that a joint was a marijuana cigarette. We also rarely wrote our own headlines. Please don't give me grief over heads such as "The Doors Draw Active Audience," which was written to describe the girls trying to tear Jim Morrison's clothes off. My personal favorite of these now-bizarre headlines is "Blind Faith Group Sings." (It's not posted). Finally, much of the slang was different, including that used to depict sex and race. Attitudes regarding gender and race likewise were different. In the 21st Century, female vocalists generally aren't called "chick singers." At least I don't recall ever hearing Bjork called that.
