First Meeting Online

"True love does not come by finding the perfect person,

but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly."

'M 38 MN' ... that was the first instant message (IM) Dennis sent me on June 17, 2002. I was just installed yahoo messenger a couple of months before and I was  hanging around on love chat room, talking with some people there. It was around 4 pm Jakarta time and I was still in my office, waiting for the traffic to get over.

I didn't really look for any relationship with anyone at that time because actually I had already got involved with someone. I just wanted to have someone to talk to while waiting to go home. And there came this IM in my monitor. From the location mentioned there, I knew instantly that it was somewhere in USA. I didn't really like talking with western guys. I thought usually they were quite 'snobbish' and mostly just looking for some dirty chat.

I was quite reluctant to reply this IM, but I didn't want to be rude either. So I replied 'F 28 Indonesia' just for the politeness sake. I thought he would just 'go' away like most guys did once they knew that there was a huge distance between their place and mine. But my guess was wrong. This guy replied back, said that it was 'cool', and then just in a couple of minutes we involved in an interesting talk. He was so different from any other guys I have 'met' on the net. He asked me if I had any pictures, and I said 'no' ... (I lied of course... :D). I thought he would just be disappointed and left, but what he said in reply really surprised me. He said that he had one and he sent it to me right away !

I was a little bit impressed with his picture, but I didn't get 'crushed' right away. We  then talked about our life, our works, our hobbies... I found that it was really fun talking with him. He was so friendly and nice. We ended our first talk by exchanging our real name and saving each other Yahoo ID.

The next day I found him got online again at around the same time, and I sent him an IM, asking if he still remembered me. He replied 'of course I do' then we had another nice conversation on the net for couple of hours !

We found out that there was exactly 12 hours time difference between our places and the distance between Jakarta and Dodge Center (the city where Dennis lives) is almost 10,000 miles ! It was early morning in USA while it was already late afternoon in my place. Dennis actually works on the night shift so he got home at early morning, while I worked on daylight and went home about the same time as he did. It was really amazed us when we realized that we woke up and slept almost at the same time every day while we were half way around the world !

From that time on we ended each of our talks with an 'appointment' for the next meeting online. We 'dated' every day and none of us did not show up without leaving messages for the other. We really had great times on the net together and we liked each other a lot !
