Posted on Wednesday, 5th November, 2003Catch Up: There's been a lot happening w/ the band band in recent months so it's been hard keeping up to date w/ the website. Sorry for the drop-off in up to date content. Anyway, the album came out finally and is doing really well. We're sold out of the first 1000 and into the 2nd pressing. We've done a few zine interviews (so look out for them over the next month or two) and had a good review in Kerrang! and a play on BBC Radio 1. I think we're all pretty pleased w/ the way it's going and are looking forward to the next recording The next release will be a split EP w/ our mates in Killerest Expression released jointly on Boss Tuneage and IATDE. They've already recorded their tracks so we need to get a move-on w/ ours. We're hoping to get them done very early in the New Year. Ed and Rich recently met up w/ hardcore hero Kevin Seconds who turned out to be even cooler than you could ever have imagined. His acoustic shows over here were good and he's coming back w/ 7 Seconds next year sometime. Now THAT should be interesting! Anyway, we're in the process of moving our website over to a new hosting company so we can start serving up MP3s, LOADS of new photos, interviews and maybe even some video. Until the move's complete however, we won't be posting any news or info. Posted on Monday, 24th June, 2003 at midnightCatch Up: OK, so the thing that's going to affect us most over the next few months is the birth of James and his girlfirend, Jane's, second child. With the birth scheduled for sometime in September we've understandably had to cut down on the number of gigs we'd planned to play and also knock on the head some of the really out of town offers. This bums us all out on one level as we love playing gigs, but we're all hoping the birth goes well and wish James and Jane all the best with their second Big Adventure. We have one gig scheduled for July 13th (The Swan in London) and boy are we looking forward to that. It's going to be great. Normal service should resume by mid-October and we'll be playing in and around London inbetween now and then. Recently the kind Mr Monk invited us across to Cardiff to play at the Oz Bar (expensive beer anyone?) with Dutch imports, Oil, and NRA. We had a fantastic night and all three bands played well. I've since picked up albums by both bands and they kick arse in the studio too. A seriously top night out with our mates from Think Tank and No Choice in attendence; if you were in the area, but didn't make it along, then you should be fucking ashamed. Video: Our good friends Matt and Sophie have edited together a very cool looking 'live' video of "Down Around" for us (all footage was filmed at the Dingwalls gig we did w/ The Unknown and Blocko). I'm looking into getting it posted somewhere for download. It'll be excellent quality, but at 40MB will be for Broadband people only I suspect. The Album: All backing tracks and overdubs are now done for the album. We've ended up w/ 13 songs and it clocks in at about 33 minutes, which we think is a good length for a punk album. Zac's trying to book some studio time w/ Roop to get the vocals done, but it's taking a while. Aston at Boss Tuneage wants a completed album by the middle of July though so we'd better get our shit together. Release date currently is early September. No news on a title yet as we've not really thought about it. Any suggestions? Posted on Tuessday, 8th April, 2003 11:37 AMCatch Up: First off the 2nd EP has been getting an extremely positive reaction from everyone (so far). It's been out in the UK for a few weeks and has done really well. The US/Canada release date is a couple of weeks away, but it'll be out there on April 29th. The Unknown: We had the great pleasure of playing a few shows with Cleveland's mighty The Unknown on their current UK Tour. They are truly wonderful people and have a fantastic attitude. It was cool being around them for the three shows in Guildford, Kingston & London. The Dingwalls show in London exceeded all expectations and was a massive success. Hundreds of people and a warm atmosphere. Check out the photos page for photographic eveidence! The Album: OK, we're about a quarter of the way through recording the album. 7 tracks are pretty much done from the musical side and are now just waiting for Zac's vocals. The other 7 or 8 tracks are now either written or about 80% ready and once they're fully rehearsed we'll be booking more studio time and getting them recorded. The original plan was to get the album released sometime in late May, but I can't see it being finished before late June at the earliest...we're all pretty busy. Anyway, the good news is that the 7 tracks we've done so far sound fucking AMAZING and we're really chuffed. It's definitely going to be worth waiting for. Posted on Wednesday, 19th February, 2003 16:55 AMNew EP out!: Bang on time as usual the mighty Boss Tuneage have released our second EP, "Lessons Learned". It's being sold online by Assembly Line and Boss Tuneage themselves and is already getting great reviews. We'll collect these and post them when we get a second. If you don't fancy buying on line then come along to one of the gigs we're doing in March (4 so far) and April and buy 'em direct from us. Click here to take a look at the artwork. The Album: Work starts on the debut K-Line album on Monday 24th Feb. We're going into a little London studio in Stoke Newington with John Hannon and Rupert Coulson - who worked together on "Lessons Learned" and made it sound awesome! We're expecting even better from them this time round. Because of various absences we're not expecting to wrap it up until the end of April, but the main thing is that work has started. Posted on Wednesday, 15th January, 2003 17:45 AMNew EP out in Feb/March: We managed to record and mix the new EP, "Lessons Learned, But Forgotten" and are really happy with it. It's coming out on Boss Tuneage in the UK and Japan and on Does Everyone Stare in the US and Canada. The CD will have 5 tracks, the 7" will have 3. As with "In The Red", the 7" will be on heavyweight coloured vinyl and you'll look a right twat if you don't get one before they go forever. Punk photographer extraordinaire, Bert Queiroz, took the photos while he was over in the UK earlier in the summer so the artwork's looking pretty damn sharp. We're looking at late-Feb/early-March as a release date. Gigs: Things have been slow at the start of 2003 on the gigs-front due mainly to Zac and Paul
being out of the country for parts of January. We've got a few lined up for Feb and March however and
are also working hard to sort out shows in London, Ipswich, Norwich (with Lovejunk) and Cambridge (with Benny). Apparently we're also supporting
Poison Idea in Wales when they tour sometime later in the year. The Album: The big project for the first half of 2003 however is getting an album recorded. We have just about all of the songs written and just need to play them out a bit before settling down with Roop and John Hannon to record them. At the moment we have April penned in for recording. Posted on Monday, 11th November, 2002 16:25 AMNew Recording: OK, we're supposed to be off to Southend tomorrow to record
some new tracks. However, we're currently in the middle of an equipment crisis (no drums)
so who knows if we'll even make it to the studio. Sometimes I despair!!! Grrrr. Anyway,
should the improbable happen and we actually get to record some songs the plan is to
do a 2 track 7" on coloured vinyl and (possibly) a 7 song CDEP. Plans are changing
by the minute though, so watch this space. Gigs: Right, we're nearly at the 20 gig mark and we'd like to do a whole lot
more. We've done 4 or 5 w/ Rich and they've all gone really well. The last gig was in
Derby on the Saturday just gone and even though it wasn't exactly a full house we had
a great time and met some excellent people...which I guess is what it's all about. We
have a show at The Garage on Dec 6th, but then nothing more booked after that. Please
get in touch if you want us to play...we're reasonably house-trained and will play for
free as long as you pay us. Posted on Thursday, 19th September, 2002 11:55 AMWeddings & More Gigs: It's been a busy old time for Ed over the last couple of months which is why this is the first update in a while. First came 'The Wedding' and next there was 'The Honeymoon'. Both were awesome. Now it's back to normal life and a load of confusion on the gig front. As it stands at the mo the Gigs page is bang up to date - i.e. you know as much as we do. October's looking pretty busy, but there are a few in Sept and Nov already confirmed too. Be warned: we'll be rocking like dogs now that Rich has joined on 2nd guitar. Come along and check us out. Recording News: The current plan is to record and release a 3 track vinyl-only effort for Boss Tuneage before the end of the year and then follow that up w/ a full length (i.e. 30 minutes or so) album in the New Year. This will probably also be on Boss Tuneage. Bert Queiroz, DC snapper extraordinaire, came along to a recent rehearsal and took some shots which we'll be using for the rest of our career. Look out for them on the single and album covers when they come out! RIP: Our fave UK hardcore band, the mighty Dead Inside, have split up after touring Japan. We're gutted as we were about to play w/ 'em at The Underworld and were really looking forward to it. I guess they were just too chicken to take on the sheer rock power that is the new 5 piece K-Line! Still, they were an inspiration and will be sadly missed. Posted on Tuesday, 30 July, 2002 12:25 PMLoads more gigs and a new guitarist: After a couple of attempts, we finally got round to rehearsing last night w/ potential new boy, Rich Matthews (ex-Grand Central). The good news is that he rocks and he's in! So K-Line has expanded in size to 5 and we'll be rehearsing long and hard over the next few weeks to get Rich up to speed w/ the songs so he can start playing gigs with us. In the meantime we'll carry on as a four piece. On that front there's been a lot of activity. Please check the Gigs page for more info. The addition of a new guitarist has thrown recording plans into chaos however, so stay tuned for more info on the what/where/when of our next release. Posted on Thursday, 11 July, 2002 11:05 AMAnd then there were 5?: Listen up shorty! It looks like the K-Line family might be increasing by one in the shape of guitarist Rich Matthews. He's yet to rehearse w/ the full band, but Ed and he got together earlier this week to play some guitar and it went very well indeed. Hopefully we'll all know more after next week's rehearsal. Plans are still afoot for the next release. Currently we're undecided as to whether we should release a 4 track vinyl EP, a mini album on CD, or a mixture of both. Either was release is tentatively scheduled for October. The Rude To Stare all-dayer at The Verge went off very well by all acounts (see Paul Cox's review on the reviews page) and we were certainly pleased with our performance - despite Ed having forgotten to turn his guitar on for the first one-and-a-half songs! Hopefully we'll be able to play more gigs like that. It looks like Turmoil in New York (see news entry below for details) have kept Stay Poor on their playlist for July as well as June! Posted on Tuesday, 11 June, 2002 12:05 PMLast Minute Gig & NYC Radio Play: Listen up kiddies, the mighty K-Line have secured a last minute support slot w/ Icarus Line at The Barfly in London next Thursday, 20th June. The wonderful straightedge/ PMA punkers, Dukes Of Nothing are the middle band. We're looking forward to it. Get down there; it'll be a great night! Aston got in touch yesterday to say that the Turmoil show on New York's WUSB station had played Stay Poor from our debut EP In the Red on May 22nd. Wicked. Check out the show's website at www.wusb.org/turmoil. Posted on Friday, 7 June, 2002 17:05 PMAll Quiet On The K-Line Front: Nowt much to report, but I thought I'd write something just to let you know that we're all still here. The reviews for the single are still coming and (amazingly) remain very positive. I still need to update the photos page on this site, but don't seem to get time to do it. I saw Sparta last night in London and they were pretty damn good. Fugazi's cancelled 'cos Guy's mum died. A serious bummer all round. On a lighter note, today England finally beat Argentina at football :-) James and I were hanging out last night w/ Tony from the Dukes Of Nothing. The talk was of trying to sort out a show w/ them, us and Dead Inside sometime soon, somewhere in London. In fact gigs remain a priority and we're trying to sort out appearances in Ipswich and Norwich as well as millions of London shows. For now though, Brighton is the next one. Posted on Wednesday, 15 May, 2002 01:05 AMRadio 1 Play & some more gigs: OK the big news here is that Phil Alexander played 'Broken Holmes' on the Mary Anne Hobbs show last night (Tuesday 14th May). Nice one! James just called in a state of some excitement to say that Kerrang! have given In The Red a fantastic review. Great news indeed especially coming so hot on the heels of the Radio 1 play. To quote the excited sticksman, "We got more K's than Korn and their name begins with a 'k'!". Apparently Kerrang! is running a competition w/ a K-Line CD as a prize....I wonder if anyone will enter? :-) The last couple of gigs went OK too. At The Garage the show was pretty edgy and Zac seemed to be about to hit everyone else in the band thgroughout the set, but then came off stage saying he'd really loved it. The Black Flag cover went down particularly well. The show a few days later at The Subterania was more of a family occasion and was blessed with good vibes from all and a really solid set. It feels like we're getting our shit together. Just a shame that we haven't got any more gigs now until the Brighton gig on June 21st. OK, bye for now. Posted on Monday, 22 April, 2002 8:04 PMPosted on Friday, 26 April, 2002 10:05 AMHolidays, Mission Of Burma and Reviews : Paul's been hanging with good buddies Graham and Rosie in the Phillipines for the last couple of weeks so action here at Castle K-Line has been pretty minimal. He's due back at the weekend though and the next gig is in 6 days time so it's not like we'll have been inactive for too long. Zac's gone off with a bunch of other skaters for a few days in Marseilles doing soemthing or other. No doubt he'll put on a CrossFire gig while he's there! Meanwhile Ed and James and Jane went to pay nuff respect to the mighty, mighty, mighty Mission Of Burma who played at The Garage last night and who rocked the fucking house thank you very much. A great night indeed. People are starting to write stuff about "In The Red". We'll post 'em on the Reviews page as they come in. We also had a incluson in the latest issue of Kerrang! (page 22). In a bizarre turn of events they reviewed the recent CrossFire night and gave it two full pages of words and photos. The photos aren't all that good 'cos the photographer used a flash so there's zero atmosphere in them and in addition to that the event comes across like a Boy Scout fund raiser in the review. Shame as it could have been good, but Zac'll be pleased anyway I'm sure. Right, onwards and upwards stout fellows. I'll be back after the next couple of shows...we need some more photos on this site. Posted on Monday, 22 April, 2002 8:04 PMSingles Ready,
More Gigs: we've got 4 more gigs lined up between now and the summer. There
are a lot of blanks to fill in though so expect that number to grow before too
long. First up is a show at The Garage next Thursday night (May 2nd).
Make that one if you can. I can absolutely promise there will be no beachballs! Posted on Wednesday, 3 April, 2002 5:01 PMA Gig, The Mix, The Artwork: OK, we're up for gig #5 on Friday night at Subterania. Should be a good night out and hopefully we'll be playing in front of our biggest crowd yet. There are sure to be photos from this one so check back next week for the evidence.
Aston's come up trumps for us and is going to be pressing up an initial run of 500 CD singles and 250 7" singles. The 7"s will be on extra weight solid red vinyl and will look amazing I'm sure. The re-pressing of the single (if it should come to that, and we think it will) probably won't be on coloured vinyl so make sure you get in early if you want one! OK, that's all for now. Check back next week for more news. Posted on Monday, 4 March, 2002 5:39 PMGig this Thursday: Just a quickie to say that the shows are starting to come in and that 2002 looks like it'll feature K-Line on stage a lot more than 2001 did. The next one's just been announced at the last minute. It's this Thursday (7th March) at the Dragon Bar, 5 Leonard St EC2A 4AQ, near to Old St tube. We're on at 9.00PM and it's free entry on the door. Small venue so arrive early. Posted on Monday, 25 February, 2002 3:02 PMOur debut single: Whaaaay-heey! K-Line single #1 is off and rolling. 3 songs (Stay Poor, Broken Homes and Future Primitives) were recorded by our main man Rupert Coulson at The Instrument studio on Harrow Road in London over this last weekend. They're sounding rough as fuck, but just peachy all the same and are ready for the mix - which should take place sometime next week. We've blown ourselves away and are all really happy. the songs rock. Aston from
Boss Tuneage came down to the last show to discuss release plans and
the current idea is to go ahead w/ 500 CD singles and a limited run of 250 7"ers
for the true punk rock collectors out there. Posted on Tuesday, 29 January, 2002 12:54 PMBack For The New Year: In the end the so-called third, fourth AND fifth shows all got cancelled so it wasn't the best end of year that we've ever had. Ed went off on Boxing Day for a month's holiday in Australia and Zac's been hiding out in Gambia for the last 3 weeks. Ed's back now and we're set to rehearse without Zac this Thursday though and then will get in a couple more before OUR NEXT GIG - well, we'll see if it actually happens - on Saturday Feb 16th at The Verge in Camden. Plans are also afoot to record a 3 track single/CD single sometime later in the month. More news on that when we get it. 2002 is going to be a big year for K-Line. Loads of gigs. If you want to put us on then please get in touch. Posted on Wednesday, 12 December, 2001 1:14 PMLAST MINUTE GIG! The so-called third and fourth shows due for the end of Nov and start of Dec both managed to get themselves cancelled for different reasons. Grrrr! We're not best pleased, but that's the way it goes I suppose. Anyway, the good news is that we have one lined up for tomorrow night - Thursday 13th at The Boston Arms opposite Tufnell Park tube (in London). Get down there for 8.30PM. It'll probably be the best thing ever since it's so last minute. Only £2.00 on the door as well. Posted on Tuesday, 6 November, 2001 1:07 PMMORE GIGS! The third and fourth shows are looming large on the punk rock horizon - see the 'GIGS' link for more details. We've got a confirmed show on 26th November and then another CrossFire appearance on Dec 8th. Before either of them we might also be playing some sort of skate thing on the 18th November. Stay tuned. Posted on Monday, 22 October, 2001 7:36 PMGIG #2: The second gig was a more nervous affair than the first as we were in front of real punters as opposed to a load of mates having a good time. There were also other bands and a weird PA to deal with. It turned out that we needn't have worried - everything was great. The other bands were super friendly and lent us all their gear, the PA was wicked and Ant, the sound man, was cool too. A load of people showed up and we went down really well. Another bonus was the last minute showing of Clinton and Louise (long time buddies and massive Sink fans from back in the day). We hadn't seen them for about 10 years, so it was a bit freaky suddenly having them down the front again after all this time. Weird incident of the evening award has to go to the singer from Palehorse who collared Drummer Shezza in the bar after the show with the phrase, "James Sherry - I've been waiting my whole life to meet you." - No, it wasn't a wind-up; the guy was simply the BIGGEST Done Lying Down fan in the world and was stoked to meet the former drummer of said outfit. He was so nice too, not that you'd have believed it from watching him on stage :-) Funniest incident of the evening award goes to James the ex-Mover guitarist and all-round lovely geezer who physically could not stop his mouth from hanging open in amazement as he witnessed first-hand the dual bass assault that is Palehorse. Those boys sure can scream! SOUNDTRACK: Both K-Line and Big Ray have a track each featured in the marvellous movie 'Snow Odyssey #3'. The premiere is being held at the Curzon Soho tomorrow night (Tuesday 23rd October) and the K-Line boys and girls will be out in force to lig it up (at the same time as keeping it real - obviously!). Should be a good night. Posted on Tuesday, 18 September, 2001 3:58 PM GIG #1: Well, we've got the first gig under our belts and very well it went too all things considered. The main thing is that we had a blast and that the punters seemed to enjoy themselves as well. We had an astonishing turnout and Zac broke even on the door money. He's vowing to do it again next month so stay tuned. DEMO: The first demo is done as well and should be hitting a million MP3 sites as you read this. There will be links to the songs posted up here as soon as they're sorted.
