The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was quite possibly the most capitol-generating tax placed upon the colonists by Great Britain. The idea behind the Stamp Act was that a document could not be legal without a stamp on it. Such documents included marriage licences, birth certificates, and even playing cards! Each of these stamps were a miniscule percent of the total income that Great Britain was generating. The Stamp Act was one of the reasons why the Sons of Liberty took action against the British ships that were in port on that faithful night.
