Cordoba History and Spec's - The 70's
1975
This new "small" Chrysler carried many luxurious
features. Inside, the instrument panel had a burlwood look. On
the passenger side of the dash, the digital
"Chronometer" mechanically clicked away the time. On
the exterior, opera windows were graced with small vertical
lights, adding a sense of class.
The Cordoba's standard powertrain consisted of a 360 ci engine with a 2 bbl carb and automatic transmission. Factory base price was about $5600. For a whopping $78, the 400 ci engine option was available, again with a 2 bbl. Also available was a 318 ci engine with a 2 bbl. Wheel-base stood at 115 inches with an overall body length of 215 inches.
1976
Very little had changed cosmetically for the 1976 model year.
Slight exterior details included a new front grille and
pinstripes. The interior now had a rosewood look for the
instrument panel, and the steering wheel was three-spoked with a
medallion in the center. The 400 ci engine with 2 bbl carb was
the new standard, with the 318 ci and 360 ci engines still
available. New powertrain options included a high performance 400
ci engine with a 4 bbl carb. This was also the first year for the
Lean Burn Control system (available on the 400 ci, 4 bbl).
1977
Again, very minor changes were made to the to the now-familiar
body-style. The front grille and tail lamps were slightly
modified, and the opera windows were squared-off slightly in the
corners. The landau roof was trimmed with a wide, padded belt
across its front. Now available was a T-top with removable glass
panels. The standard powertrain was the 400 ci, 4 bbl with Lean
Burn Control. The 318 ci and 360 ci engines remained as options.
1978
Newly restyled headlight sections featured two vertically-mounted
square lamps in place of the previous round variety. The front
grille was widened, and the parking lights were moved to the
outside corners, which also acted as the side-markers. The rear
trunk lid was sharpened, and the tail lamps were flattened and
enlarged. The bumpers were also smaller. The standard engine
remained as the 400 ci, 4 bbl with Lean Burn Control. For the
first time, the 318 ci was offered with the Lean Burn.
1979
Almost no changes were made for this year, except for a new front
grille and new options in trim and paint. Two-tone color schemes,
dual sport side mirrors, and aluminium wheels or wire covers were
offered. A special option package resurrected the "300"
nameplate. This featured special white paint with red and blue
trim, a "300" style cross-membered front grille, and
special aluminium wheels. The "300" interior used red
leather upholstery, bucket seats, and a leather-wrapped steering
wheel. A little over 3800 Cordobas with this option were built.
