Cordoba History and Spec's - The 80's
1980
The new Cordoba underwent a total redesign. Gone were the
sculptured, round body-lines--replaced by a squared, modernized
Imperial shape. This new Cordoba shared a 113 inch wheel-base
with the LeBaron. The headlights were singular square lamps, and
the tail lights consisted of three horizontal slits. Gone were
the opera windows and lights. Inside, the Corinthian options
remained, and the "Chronometer" was now electronic. The
standard engine was--believe it or not--a 225 cu, 1 bbl
slant-six! Available was a 318 ci, 2 bbl or a 318 ci, 4 bbl with
Lean Burn control.
1981 and 1982
These years were almost a total carry-over from the previous
year. Two-tone paint was now available, along with an (optional)
opera window. A special sport-option "LS" package was
offered, using a similarly-styled front grille to the 1979
"300". Very little chrome was used, instead the
"LS" featured body-colored bumpers and tail light
bezels.
1983
This year for the Cordoba saw few changes. Gone were the
medallions on the front fenders, and the hood ornament was now a
crystal-like pentastar. Premium spoked wheel-covers were
available, as was a "Special Edition" padded landau
roof trimmed with a brushed-metal band. The lower-priced
"LS" model was discontinued.
1983 was a sad year to all Cordoba
lovers--the end of an era--the last year for the Cordoba and all
its glory. But woe not, for it had been a great ride!
