**Prologue**

All five guys were on stage for the routine sound check as they did before every show of their tour, "Check. Check. 1, 2, Check." Chris began tapping his foot as the guys checked their mic volumes. Then he started moving his head a little to the beat they were unaware that they were making.

"Hey guys, you could like.. totally turn a sound check into a rap: 'Check 1. Check check 2. Check 1, 2, check..' Come on Justin.. beatbox with me Blue-boy!" The other guys just smiled and laughed at Chris's usual antics, all except Justin. He just sat at the front of the stage, legs dangling off the edge, staring blankly, looking over the vast amounts of empty seats in the arena.

Chris poked at Justin's back with his foot, "Check-y check-y 2, 1, 2, Check.. Hey man, what's wrong?"

Justin jolted a little, as if he was being brought back form a far-off place. He turned and looked up at Chris a slight smile just lightly tugging at the corner of his lips, "Did you ever have that feeling.. I don't really know how to describe it.. the feeling that something really important was going to happen today?"

Chris ruffled the top of Justin's head, but it made no difference, the fro was hard to muss. "Of course you geek. We have a 'really important' show to do!"

"No, not like that.. You don't understand.. Like something.. amazing was going to happen, and you can just feel it coming?" Justin looked up at his older friend, a wide sense of anticipation shimmering in the depths of his blue eyes.

Chris could tell the boy was serious. "I suppose.. I mean, I felt that right before things got going with the 5 of us. I was like.. 'We're going to be something.. something big. I can feel it.'" Chris stared off into the distance as he remembered those days a few years back.

"Yeah, something big.." The words tumbled from Justin's mouth in a whisper, barely audible to anyone but himself.

"Something big.." Michelle said dreamily, as she gazed up at her ceiling. She had strategically placed a large "No Strings Attached" poster above her bed, right where her head laid when she went to sleep, so the guys of *NSync were the last thing she saw before she met them in her dreams, and the first thing she awoke to see in the morning.

"What did you say?" Samantha asked curiously, eyeing her best friend sprawled out in her bedroom.

"Did you ever have that feeling.." she said as she sat up on the end of her bed, crossing her legs neatly beneath her, "that something really important was going to happen today?"

"Duh, of course! Tonight is the *NSync concert!" Samantha exclaimed, as a huge smile grew across her face. Both girls were filled with excitement about the upcoming concert, they had been *NSync fans for what seemed like.. forever.

"No, not that.. You don't understand. Like something.. amazing was going to happen, and you can just feel it coming?" she looked at her friend in all serious, as a dreamy look passed through her deep hazel eyes.

"Something big?" Samantha giggled, teasingly.

"Yeah, something big..."

**Chapter 1: First Encounters**

Michelle was alone in her room, an hour after her friend Samantha had left, standing in front of her full length mirror in her jeans and t-shirt trying to decide what to wear for the concert tonight. She was supposed to pick out an outfit and head over to Samantha's house where they would get ready for the concert together. It was always more fun with friends.

Walking over to her closet she pulled out a baby-blue baby tee. She looked at it, then tossed it to the floor, "Every girl in the arena is going to be wearing baby blue.. they all know it's Justin's favorite color. I want to look different."

She scavanged through her closet and finally found something acceptable to her taste, an adorable emerald-green button down shirt with three-quater length sleeves. It was cute, yet still classy. She walked back over to the mirror holding the shirt up against her.

"The shirt is fine.. just the rest of me is wrong.." Michelle frowned at her reflection. She was too short, she decided, and her light brown hair.. well she didn't like the way it looked, even with it's blonde highlights. At 5'5" she was cute, but tonight she didn't want to look like she was a little girl.. she wanted to look her real age, 18, or older.

Searching for a way to look taller, she found some heels thrown in the back of her closet and she tried them on. They were too fancy for the concert and they pinched her feet. "I'll just borrow a pair of Samantha's," Michelle decided, sizing herself up, "probably a pair of platforms."

Tossing her outfit in a bag along with some hair and make-up items she walked into the kitchen where her father was reading a newspaper. "Dad, I'm going to Samantha's house, and we're going to the concert together. Then I'm spending the night there, ok?"

"Ok, Michelle. Have a nice time. And please be careful, people know there are going to be lots of teenage girls at the concert, and large crowds are dangerous. I don't want to get a call from the police saying something's happened to you."

"I'll be careful. Thanks, Dad," Michelle smiled, assuring her father. He had always been a little overprotective.

"What about dinner?" her father called after her.

"I'll pick up something to eat on my way to Samantha's!" she called back as she walked out the door. She got in her car and, on the way over to her best friend's house, she pulled into the local McDonalds to grab a bite to eat.

"Ok guys, see you back here at four o' clock! That's only 45 minutes!" JC called as the guys left the stage.

"Man.. I am starving.." Justin mumbled to himself, as he climbed into one of the security escort cars waiting to take the guys wherever they desired to go. "Um, can we.. just get some fast food or something?"

The driver nodded and pulled out of the arena backstage area. As Justin looked out the tinted windows he saw quite a large group of girls was growing outside the front doors of the venue. "Man, they're here already?"

"Some of them have been there since 5 o'clock this morning.. two of them even spent the night outside last night," the driver said matter-of-factly.

"Crazy.." Justin said softly as he watched the girls. None of them saw the black car silently slip from the parking lot and down the street.

A few minutes later the driver pulled into a McDonalds. "Is this good?" he looked through the rear-view mirror at Justin.

"Yeah, this is fine. Just park the car a wait a couple minutes. I'll be right back out." He pulled on a hat and some shades and stepped out of the car, walking briskly towards the smell of greasy food.

"Hmm.. I can hardly decide what to get." Michelle realized that she hadn't eaten all day, and her stomach was growling as she looked at the menus above the counter. The old woman in front of her was just finished with her order and it was her turn. As she was about to step up to the counter, a tall man rudely cut in front of her and started placing his order instead.

Michelle instantly recognized the light tenor voice as she stared at the offender's back. Under a brown hat she saw little tufts of golden curls, peeking out from underneath, straining to be seen. Justin Timberlake himself, the boy-toy of *NSync, had just cut in front of her at McDonalds, and although she was shocked, she was also pissed off.

She had heard comments from other fans how Justin could be a real jerk sometimes when he was out in public, ignoring pleas for autographs and such, and since Michelle had never met him in public herself usually she just figured that everyone deserved their bad days. But this.. this was just plain rude.

"Excuse me, I was in line!" Michelle said sharply.

Justin spun around at the light voice that spoke so harshly in his direction, but he saw no one. Then he looked down. A young girl, no more than 16 he figured, was glaring up at him with eyes as sharp as daggers. "Look I'm in a real hurry..." he explained, and flashed her one of his dazzling magazine smiles before turning back to the counter.

Michelle swore she felt her heart do a flip in her chest when he flashed her that adorable smile, but she pushed the thought aside. Just because he was famous didn't mean that he could push other people around like they didn't exist. "Just who do you think you are?!?" she lashed back.

Justin whipped off his sunglasses and spun back around. Even without the glasses her gaze at him was still the same. *Could it be that this girl doesn't know who I am?* Justin wondered. No teenage girl had EVER spoken towards him in this way, in fact, he often found himself thinking that every teenage girl was the same, with the screaming and the crying, but this girl was different from all the others, and it made his head spin.

He made a deep exaggerated bow, and a grand motion with his hands towards the counter, "Ladies first." A small smirk tugged at the side of his mouth as he tried to hide his amusement of the entire situation.

She rolled her eyes, and almost thought she caught him smiling mockingly at her, but paid no attention as she listed her order to the amused employee. Justin just stood, left staring at her back and her long, light-brown hair, speechless.
