IN THE BEGINNING
In the beginning there were three;
on guitar, John; on bass, Mr. Kidney; and
on drums, Bob. As things progressed the
band decided to toy with the idea of
introducing a second guitarist to the band.
This position would then be filled by the
most loved member of the current line up,
Bud. But there was a bit of a conflict with
this addition to the band and for a short
period the band lost it’s bassist. In an
attempt to keep things together with the
original lineup the band went on a short
hiatus, putting Bud on hold and hoping for
the best. But all efforts were in vain and
Mr. Kidney left the band for good.
NO BASSIST TO CALL THEIR OWN UNTILL
So the band picked up things with
Bud again and pressed forward with no bassist.
They practiced quite a few times without a
bassist and began sounding more and more like
a band, but something was missing. So the band
went in search of a bassist. Two young able
bodied young lads stepped up to the plate. The
first, a nervous but very cool young man who,
for privacy purposes we will name, Mr. Nervous,
and the second a rather large Walldasaur named
Walldoe. Both worked hard and did a great job,
but after hours of deliberation and debate, to
Walldoe went the prize. Now the band was complete,
and it’s lineup at this time was the same one you
know and love today with Bud on guitar and vocals,
Walldoe on bass and backup vocals, John on guitar
and vocals, and last but most certainly not least,
Bob on drums. Now the band could start taking care
of business.
STILL NO NAME AND NO SHOWS
So now the band was practicing regularly
and getting better by the week. By this time they
only had a few cover songs under their belt and
they had written a few of their own songs, but
their main concern at the time was finding a name.
They thought long and hard about this until their
first inspiration came from, of all places, school.
In a literature class under the tutelage of the
very large, straightforward, and loud Mr. Rash.
The class was receiving their weekly vocabulary list
when one word stood out among the rest, The Indolent
(lazy). It was simple, and accurate to describe the
laid back attitude of this quartet. So now with a
name they moved on to their second item on their
to do list, play at a public venue of some sort. Their
ritualistic sacrifices were finally answered in the
form of the Downey Music center. Bob, the drummer, had
taken guitar lessons their as a lad (go figure) and
knew of a certain night of which the band could give
it a go. So they loaded up their equipment and with
a set list of two cover songs (American Jesus by Bad
Religion and Halloween by The Misfits) they took their
first step towards the future. But as they were
introduced to the audience it was discovered that their
name was much to difficult for some people to understand
or pronounce, so they scratched that one.the name Alex and
His Droogs came from the most unlikely place, the
unreliable Boris mentioned the name to Bob and he presented
it to the band and so Alex and His Droogs were born.
WALLDOE’S SHINDIG AND THE BIRTH OF THEIR FOLLOWING
Now, with their first gig out of the way, the band
was feeling confident and ready to move on to their next
venture. It seemed young Walldoe was about to celebrate the
date of his venture into this wretched world and it was
suggested that they invite a few friends over and turn his
birthday celebration into a “shindig”. And so their first
shindig was planned with guest band Pezz. This loud event
brought about the birth of the bands current following of
loyal and lazy fans who would, for the most part, not miss
a show since. Today this band of lazy followers has become
the groadies (groupie/roadie ::wink::) for the band, and
though lazy as they may be, they do a damn fine job.
DI PIAZZA; THEIR FIRST REAL GIG!!!!
So by now, the band was had done a fair share of
shindigs, and box socials, and had built up quite a good
list of original songs and some baddass old school covers.
But now they were looking for something bigger. They were
looking for a real venue to play at, where the crowd was not
just the same loyal band of punk rock junkies (not that we
didn’t appreciate their enthusiasm and presence at our back
yard shows). So they lined up a few establishments of which
they could possibly attend. First, there was Skate Land (shakes
fist). We are still waiting on them. Their was also a
Lakewood youth center, but that show was scheduled for
many months away. Their first professional gig was found
simply by chance. Walldoe and John had gone to a small but
very happening place, Di Piazza, to watch a show and waste
a Sunday night. While there they had an epiphany. If these
other bands are just local garage type bands and they got
a show here, why not Alex and His Droogs?!? So John and
Walldoe approached Mr. Di Piazza and asked him about getting
a show there. Mr. Di Piazza then handed them a card and told
them to call and schedule something in. John then proceeded
to call Mr. Di Piazza. He called many times but never got a
response. Then, just out of curiosity, Bud asks for the phone
number so that he can give it a go…and sure enough, Bud gets
a show scheduled on the first try (They figure it was just
because it’s Bud. After all, who can say no to Bud?). This
first show was to be the beginning of a long running tradition.
Since that day, Di Piazza has hosted this band of miscreants
and nogoodnicks numerous times and has helped the band grow
so much in such a short time. during their many shows there
they have recorded 2 live albums.
THE DROOGS YOU KNOW AND LOVE TODAY
Alex and His Droogs is currently preparing to record
their first studio album and have a few shows lined up for the
near future. The band would like to thank you for your interest
and implore you to check out their show schedule and come see
them soon. ROCK ON CHILDREN!!
I am tired of this crap so good-bye!
