Spirit

Next stop, ACTIVITY TALK AND ORGANIZE!  Hooray! This is America!  The land where I can fight for anything!

“I do not believe that women are better than men. We have not wrecked railroads, nor corrupted legislature, nor done many unholy things that men have done; but then we must remember that we have not had the chance.” – Jane Addams

America has always been in development.  However, within it a deep virus of oppression and discrimination festers.  Male chauvinism existed in America and women did not share the same rights and opportunities as men.  For example, they couldn’t vote and their wages were drastically lower.

Activists worked toward the ideal of equality.  Jane Addams was an activist for women’s suffrage, a supporter of poverty stricken city-dwellers in Chicago, and worked toward peace in Europe shortly before World War disaster[1].  The spirit of America is ordinary folk like Jane Addams who actively participated in political and especially the community.  With the efforts of activists (the concrete cure), the standard of living improved for women.

Up comes the Blade of America!

[1] Jane organized the Women's Peace Party and the International Congress of Women in 1915.  She tried to stop the war until her death.  She became president of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in 1919.  Unfortunately, America entered the war in 1917.  She could not stop the war and she was criticized for her efforts.
