Rice High School is a 4 year Catholic college prepatory school
in Harlem. Rice has a culture of African American and Latinos with
a student body of 400. The school is centered not only on acedemic
excellence and athletic achievement but also on spirtual development
and community. Catholic philosophy and religion is taken all years
of Rice and prayers are said at the beginning and end of each school
day and class. Rice is fully intergrated into the dogma of Chatholicism
with frequent Masses and spiritual renewal ceremonies hosted and
coordinated by John Falcone and Mark Page. As part of Chrisitian
service like the Founder Edmund Rice, it is manditory for Rice Men
at Junior and Senior year to contribute 100 hours of community service
in order to graduate. At the end of each day, Oralndo Gober, Rice's
principal, wishes off the Rice Men with a quote from Edmund Ignatuis
Rice, "Live Jesus in our hearts forever."
