Adam
- The First Angel
The keystone of the Human Instrumentality Project,
Adam was the first Angel to be discovered. Adam was
found in the continent of Antarctica in the year 1999,
frozen, but still alive. It became the focus of a
large research project involving many renowned
scientists including Misato's father and Gendo Ikari.
Some time in the middle of the investigation, the
subject exploded, resulting in the immediate death of
over half of the worlds population as well as the
melting of the continent's ice, which caused water
levels to rise world-wide. Also, because Adam had been
'awakened', the beginnig of the battle between the
Angels was triggered. Apparently, this Angel is still
alive, frozen and not much bigger than a human hand,
Kaji delivered it to Ikari Gendo for use in the Human
Instrumentality Project after the 6th Angels attack on
the Navy fleet transporting Eva-02.
FATE
Adam remains frozen in an embroytic state somewhere
within Nerv's headquarters.

Lilith
- The Second Angel
Impaled by the Spear of Longinus (or the 'Spear of
Destiny' used to pierce Jesus' chest durring his
crucifixation), Lilith who is the mother of all life,
remains stuck to a cross-like structure in Terminal
Dogma. Lillith wears a mask with seven eyes (possiblly
representing the seven eyes of God) on it. It is not
known where Lilith came from. Because of the Spear of
Longinus, her legs are unable to grow. At first,
Lilith was the center for the Human Instrumentality
Project, but when the Spear on Longinus was lost,
Gendo considered replacing Lillith with Unit-01 to
complete his plan to meet his wife, Yui again.
FATE
In the final episode of Evangelion, Rei decides not to
help Gendo meet his wife and enters Lillith. Lillith's
legs grow back completely and takes the form of Rei
who falls from the cross structure and goes to Shinji,
in Unit-01 to complete Instrumentality where Shinji
will decide whether he wants a world with people or
not, ending the world or bringing salvation like with
Noah's Arc.

Sachiel
- The Third Angel
This guy was the first Angel to appear in the series.
It attacked Tokyo-3 just as Shinji had been
'recruited' by Nerv. Thinking the enemy would be no
match for conventional weaponry, the UN launched an
enormus attack against the beast, but failed when the
weapons had no effect at all due to it's AT field.
It's attacks included the ability to extend a charged
rod from it's forearm, some sort of 'cannon' the
caused cross-like explosions and the ability amass
muscle strength in it's upper limbs. It met Shinji in
Eva Unit-01 and nearly destroyed the two before Eva
went into a breserk state, allowing it to regenerate
it's damaged arm and break through Sachiel's AT Field.
FATE
After sending Shinji and his Eva into a berserk state
and sustaing major damage, Sachiel self-destructed in
an attempt to destroy Eva-01, but failed when Eva's
armor withstood the blast. After sending Shinji and his
Eva into a berserk state and sustaing major damage,
Sachiel self-destructed in an attempt to destroy
Eva-01, but failed when Eva's armor withstood the
blast.

Shamshel
- The Fourth Angel
Just as Misato said, the Angels are never considerate
aboout the situation, Shamshel attacked only three
weeks after Sachiel. It floated it's way into the city
meeting only minor resistance from the defensive
system put in place to defend the city. After floating
into the main part of the city, Eva Unit-01 was
dispatched, but appared to be no match for Shamshel's
energy whips, that could easily cut anything in two;
from buildings to Eva's. It managed to sever Unit-01's
power cable, limiting the time Eva had left to
operate. It also caused massive damage to the city
destorying countless buildings and managing to leave
Unit-01's impression in the side of a mountain after
throwing him.
FATE
After severing Unit-01's power cable, Shinji, in
Unit-01, defied orders in an attempt to finish off the
Angel with only seconds of power left. Shamshel was
defeated when Shinji's Progressive Knife destroyed the
S2 core. Shamshel, unlike the last Angel, remained
intact and was carefully studied by Nerv scientists.

Ramiel
- The Fifth Angel
One of the best designed Angels in terms of defense is
Ramiel. Described as a "Floating Fortress",
the Fifth Angel glided to a spot directly over
Geofront with hardly any resistance from the EVAs and
Nerv. When there, it began drilling straight down to
Nerv HQ. It would attack any object that came within
several miles of it that might cause the slightest
threat. It attacked Unit 01 and caused major damage to
the Eva and its pilot when it appeared up from the
ground.
FATE
Only the first cooperative Eva operation was able to
destroy Ramiel, and only by using the combined
electrical power of all of Japan to power a giant
sniper canon fired by Shinji in Eva-01. Its body
remained intact for the Nerv scientists to study.
Gaghiel
- The Sixth Angel
Gaghiel was the first and only aquatic Angel. It
attacked a UN fleet that was transfering Eva Unit-02
(the first real Evangelion - Units 00 and 01
were the prototypes respectively). Though Nerv members
thought it was searching for Eva Unit-02, it was
really searching for the embryo of Adam Ryoji Kaji was
carring with him to Nerv HQ. It was easily able to
destroy half of the UN fleet before Auska and Shinji
were able to activate Unit-02 to battle the beast.
After a quick brawl on the deck of the Supercarrier
"Over the Rainbow," Eva Unit-02 and it's
pilots were forced into the ocean to battle Gaghiel.
Because Unit-02 was still using the B-Type equipment,
they were unable to actually inflict damage on the
Angel and were nearly swollowed by it.
FATE
Only with some careful planning by Misato and the
combined focus of Auska and Shinji, were they able to
blow up Gaghiel. Misato orderd that two battleships be
sunk in line with the Angel, while Eva Unit-02 opened
it's mouth to allow for the ships to enter it's mouth
and self-destruct after firing it's bow turrents.
Gaghiel was completely destroyed, enabling Nerv to
study it.

Israfel
- The Seventh Angel
Israfel appeared off the coast of Tokyo-3 and was
greeted by Shinji in Unit-01 and Auska in her Unit-02.
After Auska's ego got the better of her, she used her
spear to slice the Angle in two, but the fight was not
over; Israfel split into two seperate Angels and made
short work of Auska and Shinji, humiliating Nerv.
After the battle, the Angel merged into one again and
an N2 mine was dropped on the target which succeded in
damaging the Angel badly enough that it would halt
it's attack in order to regererate.
FATE
Israfel was defeated when the "dance" of the
two EVAs split it and forcibly re-combined it with a
powerful set of kicks. It exploded in a cross-shaped
pillar of fire.

Sandalphon
- The Eighth Angel
Nerv took a big risk with this Angel when they
actually discovered this Angel in it's embroytic stage
and decided to capture it, giving them the offensive.
Found while performing tests on a local inactive
volcano, scientists discovered something deep within
the volcano. Soon there after, Nerv was called in to
investigate, and sure enough, it was an Angel, but it
was still in it's egg, waiting to hatch. Misato
decided to take a big risk by attempting to capture
the beast; failire could have resulted in an explosion
much like the 3rd Impact. Auska was to dive into the
depths of the volcano's lava pool in her specially
outfitted Eva Unit-02 to capture the beast. The
mission almost went as planned until the Angel began
to hatch as Auska brought it to the surface.
FATE
Because Auska lost her Progressive Knife, she was
forced to feed her coolant to the beast, eventually
disintigrating it. This Angle was only an adult for
2.5 minutes.
Matareal
- The Ninth Angel
Matareal couldn't have attacked at a worse time, as a
power outage was created by defective personell at
Nerv, leaving all of Tokyo-3 powerless and unable to
launch the Evas. One of the more oddly shaped Angels,
Matareal used it's spider-like legs to march it's way
into Tokyo-3 as it positioned itself directly over
Nerv HQ. Once in position, it began to excrete an
acidic liquid from it's underside that started to melt
it's way through the armor plates protecting Nerv.
Finally, the Eva's were launched manually using the
strenghth of many Nerv personell and a backup disel
engine.
FATE
Trapped inside the only tunnel out of Nerv and with
their weapons at the base of the tunnel, Auska came up
with a plan to destroy the Angel; Auska would recieve
the damage from the Angels acid, while Rei fetched a
weapon from the bottom of the tunnel and tossed it to
Shinji who would then instruct Auska to move out of
the way as Shinji fired and destroyed the Angel.
Amazingly, the weapon that never had any real effect
on previous Angels, easily destroyed Matareal. It
appeared that this Angel had not activated it's AT
field.

Sahaquiel
- The Tenth Angel
Sahaquiel was also one of the strangest Angels as far
as looks. It arrived from deep space and took orbit
over Earth. Once ready, Sahaquiel began to drop small
parts of itself on the surface of the Earth, creating
enormus tidle waves and deep craters as it slowly
corrected it's aim (yet another example of how the
Angels can upgrade their abilities through combat).
After a few test drops, the Angel fell to the Earth
towards Tokyo-3.
FATE
With all three Eva's operational, Rei, Shinji and
Auska rushed underneatht he falling object and
expanded their AT fields to stop it's descent. While
being held in place just the height of an Eva above
the ground, a prog knife was used by Auska to destroy
the S2 core. Sahaquiel then fell atop the Angles,
dead, and exploded, leaving yet another crater in the
landscape.

Ireul
- The Eleventh Angel
Ireul, a bio-computer made up of billions of
virus-sized particles, attacked Nerv HQ directly while
tests were being performed on the nude Eva pilots in
their Entry Plugs. Slowly it began to attack the three
Magi computers. It easily gained control over Melchior
and Balthasar before it was temporaraly halted by
Ritsuko's quick typing skills. After much thought,
Ritsuko came up with a plan that would cause the Angel
to evolve into it's death when faced with multiple
problems from Caspar, the remaining Magi Computer
being aided by Ritsuko.
FATE
As stated, Ritsuko, with the help of Caspar, caused
the Angel to evolve into it's death, breaking the two
other Magi Computers free of it's grasp and preventing
any further damage to the Test Eva's.

Leliel
- The Twelfth Angel
Out of nowhere, Leliel appeared as a rapidly growing
shadow-ball over Tokyo-3. Eva's were dispatched to
attack, but whenever shots were fired at it, Leliel
would dissapear and reappear. Shinji, taunted by Asuka
who had recently lost her place as the Eva pilot with
the best sync ration, let his ego run amok. Shinji
fired on the target, but the Leliel dissapeared, then
reappeared underneath Eva Unit-01 swollowing him into
a Dirac Sea. Running on minimal power, Shinji was left
with roughly 15 hours to live. With no other choice,
Nerv decided to drop all remaining N2 mines on the
target (which was the shadow on the ground less than a
tenth of a centimeter thick but many kilometers wide)
regardless of the life inside.
FATE
After much thinking and 'communicating' with the Eva
he was piloting, Unit-01 went berserk (this time with
no power) and broke free of the Angel, destroying it
in a bloody display of the Evas power over Tokyo-3.
Bardiel
- The Thirteenth Angel
What was supposed to be Unit-03, the fourth addition
to the Eva army, turned out to be an Angel when it's
test activation sequence started. Soon after breaking
free, an explosion occured, destroying the secondary
test site and headed for Tokyo-3. On it's way it was
met by Units 00 and 02. Nither of the two stood a
match for the Angel, and were quickly removed from
battle. Shinji, now alone and struggling with the idea
of attacking something that might have a human in it,
was nearly destroyed durring combat, until Gendo Ikari
(who was commanding the operation) ordered that the
Dummy Plug program be activated.
FATE
With the Dummy Plug Program activated, Shinji could no
longer take control of his Eva as it savagely ripped
Unit-03 to pieces, covering much of the area with
blood and interal body parts. Also, Unit-01 smashed
the Entry Plug for Unit-03 in it's hand, nearly
killing Touji Suzahara, the new pilot.
Zeruel
- The Fourteenth Angel
Probably the most destructive Angel up to that point
in the series, Zeruel came crashing into Tokyo-3,
firing a cannon much like that of Sachiels (in that
fact that the explosions resembled crosses), only
stronger, breaking through 18 of the armor layers
protecting the Geo Front. Once it penetrated the
armor, it began it's decent into the Geo Front where
Auska waited to fire on it. Unfortuantely, the weapons
had little effect and Auska soon found her Eva armless
thanks to Zeruel. Asuak lost control of herself as she
knew she had been defeated once again, and made a mad
dash twards Zeruel, who removed Unit-02's head. In a
desperate attempt to destory the Angel, Rei, the only
remaining pilot (since Shinji quit and Touji was
injured), made a mad dash for Zeruel with and N2 Mine.
She forced it past the AT field and detonated it, but
it had no effect. After seing the destruction that
Zeruel was causing and realizing he had to do
something, Shinji ran to HQ and took control of
Unit-01.
FATE
It appeared that Shinji's attempt to save Nerv and the
residents of Tokyo-3 was in vain as he was being
tossed around like a play thing by Zeruel, when
suddenly, the Eva 'awakened'. In the third
reactivation of Unit-01, Shinji's synchronization
ratio jumped to over 400% and the Eva took control of
the situation by destroying the Angels arms and
eventually eating it. Unit-01 took Zeruel's S2 core
into itself at the end of the battle and broke free of
the bindings Nerv had to it.
Arael
- The Fifteenth Angel
Arael, slightly resembling the tenth Angel and
mimicing some of it's atcions, came from deep space
and took up orbit over Earth. Here it remained,
motionless, keeping a safe distance away from Nerv.
Eventhough Nerv was unable to hit the Angel using long
range weapons, they launched Auska in Unit-02 with a
rifle, ready to attack the Angel, should it come into
firing range. Soon after Auska's launch, the Angel
attacked with a soft light that penetrated Asukas mind
and began to analyze it in an attempt to learn how the
human brain functions. Rei in Unit-00 was launched and
another long range shot was attempted, but failed.
FATE
When all appeared to be lost, Commander Ikari orderd
that Rei fetch the Spear of Longinus from Terminal
Dogma. Rei returned to the surface, Auska's mind
almost broken, and threw the Spear at Arael,
penetrating the AT Field and destorying the Angel, but
leaving the spear of longinus in space.
Armisael
- The Sixteenth Angel
A shape shifitng Angel, Armisael appeared and began to
hover over Tokyo-3. It originally appeared as a double
helix in the shape of a circle, but as soon as Unit-00
was launched, attacked in the form of an anormus whip
and began to fuse with Rei and Unit-00. Auska was
launched to combat the problem, but could not help Rei
because her Syncronization Ratio was below 10%. She
was removed from combat. Finally, Shinji was launched
and began to battle Armisael.
FATE
Rei, knowing what she had to do, self-destructed her
Eva, destroying the Angel and much of the surrounding
area. Strangely, she appeared at Nerv the next day,
with minor injuries.
Tabris
- The Seventeenth Angel
Really the Fifth Child Kourow Nagisa, and appearantly
a homosexual (gross :Þ), made his way to Unit-02's
holding cell and activated his AT field as well as
Eva-02 and it's AT filed. There was no entry plug
inserted and no power cable. Tabris made his way
through the tunnels of Nerv on his way to Terminal
Dogma, in an attempt to touch the being he thought was
Adam (really Lilith). Shinji was ordered to stop him,
but resisted less than with his previous mission
against Unit-03, the thirteenth Angel. Angered with
the fact that in just a few hours he had opened up to
Kaworu and shared confidences with him, he disregarded
all respect he had for human life and attempted to
stop him. He was confronted by Unit-02 as he made his
way down to Terminal Dogma, and evetually defeated
him, but still had Tabris, the Angel with the
strongest AT field yet, to destroy before he had a
chance to touch the creature many thought was Adam.
FATE
After making his way to Terminal Dogma and finding
Lilith, not Adam, Tabris who discovered the good in
mankind, came to the conclusion that they should be
the ones to live, not him, and wished Shinji to end
his life by crushing him in the hand of Unit-01.
Shinji, after a minute long pause, crushed him in
Eva's hand.
