Everything about the PS2

Getting a PS2:

The simple answer to this is a shop...but that may be quite hard.
If you go into a shop with 300 quid and say "Gimme a PS2", the shop keeper will just laugh at you. The reason for this is that there aren't ANY consoles left in the shops, (especially in the UK) and there won't be any more delivered until as late as March. So just how do you get hold of one? And how fast can you get your PS2? Every possible way is covered, read on...

SHOPS:  If you want your PS2, and you haven't bothered to fill in one of those order-forms, there is still hope - but not in the bigger retail shops such as GAME and Electronic Boutique. Instead, (like we did) become best friends with the owner of an independent games store, and suggest that if you paid him cash, can he hold a console back for you...hopefully they won't mind - after all, they just won't your money. And as soon as they get some PS2's in, you just wander in, get your PS2, and walk out laughing...and best of all...it's perfectly legal! WOO-HOO!!!

OFF THE BACK OF A TRUCK (STOLEN):  Don't even think about it! It may seem like the easiest, and cheapest way...but you WILL get caught. Don't you think someone will notice they're a PS2 short? After all, there's not too many of the machines about, and you having one without a receipt may look a bit dodgy to the copper reading your rights. Just don't do it.

SECOND-HAND: If you're thinking the PS2 will be cheaper because it's second-hand, think again. Most people are charging more than triple the R.R.P! The prices range from about £450 for just the console to about £1600!?! Just think of the kind of PC you can get for that price, PS2 or super powerful PC...hmm...I know what I would choose...

IMPORTED: (FROM SHOP OR FROM HOLIDAY) Remember; the import shops will have the same kind of trouble as the normal game stores. But maybe by some rare freak of nature they have one in, it will still set you back quite a bit - not quite as much as the second-hand ones, but close. The other problem with imported consoles is that you can only play games from the country you picked up the PS2 from. And it probably won't run the same "region" of DVD's as the country you live in. Alternatively, you could always pick one up while on holiday abroad, you'll have the same problem as above, and you might be stopped at the air-port. The chips used in the PS2 card are very similar to Military chips! (check news for full story)
