Don’t you just love beat em up games? They’ve been around longer than we can remember. Who would’ve thought way back in the 1980’s that they could develop this much? Tekken 3 is without a doubt, the best all round fighting game on the Playstation.
And that’s that.
Yes, it’s true; the Tekken series have always seemed to beat their opponents into a bloody pulp. Tekken 3 is no exception. It features some of the most realistic graphics they PSX can handle, excellent game-play and more.
You start by choosing your character, then set out beating people up. The style is typical; in each round you fight a different character from the game, until you reach the boss. This is usually followed by the character’s end movie, and then you’re back to where you started.
Tekken 3 features many characters from Tekken 2, plus a wide variety of brand new ones including Eddie and Xiayou. There are also quite a few secret characters, such as a walking tree trunk, a panda, a midget dinosaur and even an Afro bearing disco guy.
Controlling your character is easy. You simply press different buttons to perform different moves. Pressing a variety of buttons will result in either a cool combo move, or nothing.
As mentioned before, the graphics are superb. The intro movie sets the standard, and the character movies are always something to look forward to. The in-game graphics also surpass any others.
The funky background movie is another great feature. The steady beat really keeps you psyched up, and is presented in full stereo.
As well as the typical arcade mode, there are a number of other features to choose from. You can fight your friend with 2-player mode, or test your skill at the 2 mini games. These first of these is a strange beach volleyball game, where you have to keep the ball in the air, and the second one is a street battle mode, where you run through the streets beating everyone up. These cool add-ons give the game yet more effect.
Overall, Tekken 3 is pretty much the ultimate PSX fighting game. The only thing that really lets it down is it’s slight repetitiveness. A must have for your collection.
