Noel Gallagher was at the Brits last night. He was to introduce U2 awith the outstanding contribution award. He has paid passionate tribute to U2, before presenting the band with the Outstanding Contribution award, at the close of The Brits. Noel said from the stage: "This award is for a band who've apparently had a great impact on music. They've certainly had a great impact on my record collection!" U2 made a long thank you speech, notably praising the Brits for awarding it to "an Irish band". Bono praised The Beatles, although he added they contained three Irishmen. Similar tribute was given to Oasis, with Bono adding "they've got two Irishmen in their band! Aswell" Noel Gallagher was seen to raise a celebratory fist at the end.The band then strummed through a brilliant, 4-song set, bringing the Brits 2001 to a monumental finish. |
January A member of the Oasis touring party checked in with Oasisinet last night with a good report:: Oasis played at Rio tonight... good and proper! It was a great gig, it's been 5 months since their last performance in Leeds in August, and they played Brilliant. They went down really well to a crowd of over 200,000 people. "This Festival is like nothing else, and has to be seen to be believed! Guns and Roses followed with Slash's replacement donning a KFC bucket as a hat, along with hooded anorak, mask and Flying V - quite a sight. Everyone is happy down here tonight. Liam made fun of Guns'n'Roses while they were playing in the gig. |
THE 5th OASIS STUDIO ALBUM 12 Feb - According to a recent interview with Noel, Oasis have now written the majority of their next album, and will start recording it on the 2nd of March. "There's no tentative plans for any release dates or anything. We got a bunch of songs - we'll do track one, play to track seven and fill in the gaps when we get back from touring with the Black Crowes." He the spoke about Liam saying half jokingly: "He's written nine songs. We're going to use three. Six of them are fucking shocking, but three of them are alright." Liam said at the NME Awards show: "We've had a bad year and I'm the first to admit it, there's only two people left, we had a dodgy tour. That's fine. Shit goes on. But we've written a load of songs and written the best songs we've done. I think they're the best songs we've done, as usual. I thought the last album was the best songs we've done. But we'll have to wait and see. Everyone's happy in a way because everyone's writing, we've got four writers. I've written loads, Andy Bell's written loads. It's good. I just want to make a great album. Not for us, for rock 'n' roll. It shouldn't take two years to make an album. We've written the album. It takes two months to record it. We're going to tour because that's what we do. It will be the same as we always do. We write an album, go and play it, if people like it they like it, if they don't they don't." |

24th Apr - Ono Nicole Crisis The Oasis brothers are apparently on the verge of a Yoko Ono-esque confrontation, because Liam Gallagher wants Nicole Appleton to sing on their comeback single. Liam and former All Saint Nicole, who are expecting a child together, are apparently keen that she should contribute vocals to new Oasis material. The band are said to be planning to release a track entitled 'Songbird' as their new single, the first to be taken from the their fifth album, which is currently being recorded. And according to reports, Appleton may sing on the track, but only if Noel is in agreement. A 'source' close to the band claims: "Liam is desperate for Nic to do the backing vocals. Noel isn't really up for it. "Although he gets on with Nic very well, the whole thing is a bit too John-and-Yoko for his liking." |
3rd May - Oasis's Best Album Noel Gallagher said that their new material is the best they've recorded for years. The Oasis songwriter has revealed that the material put down for the follow-up to 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' is a throw-back to the adrenaline-fuelled rock and roll of the band's debut. Speaking to the Toronto Sun as he and the band prepare for their upcoming dates with The Black Crowes in the US, Gallagher said the band had completed eight tracks so far, without vocals. "Now I don't really get quite excited about my records, because it's just like, 'Oh well, there it is. The songs that I wrote'. But I'm very excited about this one," he explained. "I don't know why that is. I think it's the most interesting thing that we've written for a long time. It's actually probably the most upbeat album we've done since 'Definitely Maybe'," claimed Gallagher. He said: "(The new songs) are rock and roll, with tunes. You know, because most rock and roll ain't got any fucking tunes, have they. It's just all about quiet bit, loud bit, shouty bit." |
6th May - Snubbed Liam and Noel have been snubbed by the Queen's bank, Coutts, Although Oasis share their millions in the bank The Oasis brothers are between them worth over £30 million, but when they tried to open personal accounts with the swanky bank, which counts Britain's Queen Elizabeth II among its many posh clients, they were turned down. According to UK The Sun (The Paper), the bank snubbed them because they were still considered to be too rock 'n' roll: "Coutts is famous world wide," a source is reported as saying. "Liam and Noel wanted a bit of that. They've cleaned up their acts but the bank still don't want to know." |
25th May - Noel wins Damages Noel Gallagher has received "substantial damages" and an apology from The Mirror Newspaper, over a story about his divorce from Meg Matthews, I can exclusively reveal. Gallagher launched the lawsuit after they claimed he lied in court to secure a swift divorce from his ex-wife. He and his solicitor, Anthony Burton, mounted the legal challenge, after an article published in January titled "I lied about cheating on Meg to shut her up". The piece stated Gallagher had lied in court in order to get a quick divorce from Matthews, deliberately stating in legal documents that their relationship had collapsed because of his adultery. The pair say the piece caused them both considerable hurt, distress and embarrassment, with Gallagher's 'lie' representing contempt of court on his behalf, and implying complicity in the move by his solicitor Anthony Burton. The Mirror apology, to be published on Monday, reads: "Noel Gallagher, in his divorce papers, makes it clear that the adultery alleged by his former wife, Meg Matthews, as being the reason for their divorce took place after their separation. "Yet in an article we published on the 19th January 2001 we said that Noel had lied to the court in this respect and that his lawyer (Anthony Burton of Simons Muirhead & Burton) was concerned because he feared that the Judge may throw the petition out and charge Noel with contempt of court. "Having been shown the divorce papers, we can confirm that Noel always made it clear that the adultery took place after he separated from Meg Matthews and we accept that Noel would not and did not lie to the court. "We accordingly apologise to Noel and to Mr Burton, his lawyer (for suggesting that he continued to act for Noel despite knowing that he had lied to the court)." Gig Cancelled The band had to cancel last night's date (May 24th) due to fear of flooding at a Cincinnati venue. A portion of the Riverbend Music Centre is situated on the Ohio River, which already flooded over the weekend, and is prone to weather-related cancellations. |

Liam will make his acting debut in the next series of 'Phoenix Nights', It will be on Channel 4 sitcom featuring comedian Peter Kaye. According to reports in the UK newspapers and that, Liam, is in the US on the 'Brotherly Love' tour with The Black Crowes, actually asked to appear in the show. Liam will be seen having an audition at the working men's club where it is set. But he ends up with a job collecting glasses after failing to impress the club's owner. Eric Clapton and Bono are also rumoured to be set for appearances in the next series. |
14 June - HeadButt... It's been alleged that Liam Gallagher headbutted a photographer who tried to take his picture as he arrived at the Oasis and Black Crowes after-show party in New York. According to a report in the New York Post the singer had just finished three consecutive nights at the New York Radio City Music Hall on Saturday (June 9th) as part of the 'Brotherly Love Tour'. He was going to let his hair down at the bash taking place at the Three Of Cups bar in the city's East Village. The American newspaper stated that Noel, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson and his actress wife Kate Hudson were already in attendance. Liam apparently turned up later and impatient to start partying attacked the snapper who got in his way. |
21 June - New Cottage Noel Gallagher and new Scottish girlfriend Sara MacDonald are moving into a £1 million mews cottage in North London, it has been reported. Sara, who works in PR, is said to want to live in London to be close to clients and will handle the decoration of the new pad because she says she hated Noel's former home, 'Supernova Heights', which he shared with ex-wife Meg. Talking to the Daily Record she also scotched any rumours that the couple were planning a Scottish wedding. "We are moving in together in London on Monday. We've got a new place and we need to stay there because of my work. I don't want to move into the country. After all, I'm a city girl," said the 29-year-old. "We have never said that we would walk down the aisle. But as a result of [newspaper marriage] reports, I keep getting stuff through from various castles in Scotland who want us to have the wedding there. I'm being inundated with junk mail. Obviously, they've gone straight in the bin. "It's been less than a year since we started seeing each other, which is not such a long time. Anyway, why would Noel want to get married again so soon? We're quite enjoying just sort of mucking around and being boyfriend and girlfriend." |
21 June - The Drugs Dont Work Noel Gallagher has revealed that he is happier than he's ever been now he's off the drugs and drink and that instead of fighting with his little brother he just laughs at his jokes. The Oasis leader said of his sibling: "Liam used to really annoy me, but now I think he is a comic genius, the funniest guy I have known in my entire life. I believe that in the old days he was difficult and drinking so much because of his ex-wife [actress Patsy Kensit]. She made him unhappy and he used to take it out on the rest of the band." Noel's interview with the UK newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph' continued: "I liked drugs, I was good at them. But I'd had panic attacks for about a year and I stopped because I wanted to. "After you make the decision it is quite easy. And I am quite proud of the fact that I didn't have someone tell me I am a bad person, because I am not. I like being clear-headed and eating at regular times. I feel happier than I ever have." Noel's relationship with PR executive Sarah MacDonald seems to be having a positive effect on the star. He has vowed that from now on he just wants to be a "good and approachable father" to his one-year-old daughter Anais. He split with the child's mother Meg Mathews last year and since then has decided that the band will no longer play their best known song, 'Wonderwall', as a consequence. It was written about Meg. Noel said: "It doesn't seem right any more. So we are not going to bother doing it." Meanwhile, The Beatles producer George Martin has said that Oasis are making a "big mistake" modelling themselves on the infamous Fab Four. He told a British tabloid: "They made a big mistake hitching their wagon to The Beatles so much. They are not The Beatles." |
21 June - Missing Naked Photos It's been reported that Liam Gallagher refused to help police investigating the disappearance of naked pictures of his former wife Patsy Kensit from the couple's Primrose Hill home. The intimate photographs, which were allegedly taken by the Oasis frontman only moments after the actress had given birth to their son Lennon in 1999, were stolen from the North London house last summer. Estate agents Michael Sulkin and Howard Kamen have been accused of stealing the pictures but denied the theft during a hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court this week. Yesterday (Wednesday June 20th) Sulkin's Barrister Charles Conway told the court that the singer's unhelpful attitude had held up the trial. He said: "Police tried to speak to Liam Gallagher. He has refused to co-operate. They made attempts to get him to court and give evidence. Inquiries with Gallagher are on-going." The trial has since been adjourned until September 10th as a vital police witness is away on holiday. A British tabloid reported that prosecutors forgot to inform a detective of the trial date and it is this mistake that has put things back and cost a fortune in court costs. |

19th July - New Album Due The new Oasis album is out this year but Noel won't be the main songwriter. In an interview Noel said about the six month-delayed album: "Liam has written most of the songs this time around. Liam's suppose to get a lot to get off his chest by songwriting. "There will definitely be one of his songs on the album and probably two or more," The band are currently in the studio finishing the long-player. "The next three or four months are going to be hard to get the album finished," said Noel. "It's actually quite funny to think that 10 years down the line we're still here and people are still bothered about us." The new stuff is likely to be previewed on Oasis' forthcoming six-date tour: These are ... Shepherd's Bush Empire October (7th and 8th) Manchester Apollo (10th and 11th) Glasgow Barrowlands (13th and 14th) |

Feb 2001 The first band to sign to the Gallagher owned, Big Brother Records has been announced. Noel has signed Manchester band, Proud Mary to his new sub label which has been named, Sour Mash. Sour Mash was set up recently in association with Noel's management company Ignition, and Noel said he founded the label: "To give me something to do on my days off." The label is entirely independently-owned and financed, and will not affect Oasis' Big Brother label. Noel has been working with Proud Mary at his Wheeler End Studio producing tracks for their debut album, due out later this year. Speaking at last weeks NME Awards (Feb 6), Noel said: "I've started my own record label and signed Proud Mary. I've just finished doing the album with them and it's going to be released in March or May. They're a cross between The Stones, Neil Young and The Band. It's a lesson in songwriting. They're just mates of mine from years and years back and this started because they applied for the bass player and guitarist's job [in Oasis], unbeknown to them all." |
MOANING MEG Feburary In "The News of World" Newspaper, Meg Matthews, mother of Noels daughter Anais, spoke about her appendicitis. Speaking from Thailand whilst recovering from an emergency appendix operation, accused Noel of "spreading rumours" that she was a poor mother because she failed to come back from holiday for their daughter Anais' s first birthday last Saturday. "I nearly died, I'm not dashing around here having a good time. I totally miss my baby." - Meg Matthews |
19th July - Back to the Drawing Board "I think Oasis will have to go back to the drawing board," Liam told a British tabloid. Liam was speaking after Saturday evening's leg of U2's huge 'Elevation Tour' at London's Earl's Court. The dates are the biggest grossing ever. "This was one of the greatest performances I've seen. Bono gives 129 per cent - it blew my head off. I couldn't take my eyes off him. This sets the standard for other bands," he said. "It's a different experience to Oasis but I've never seen anything like it. It has made me look at things in a different way," he told The Sun. Oasis play their tenth anniversary tour this October. "We're going to have to go back to the drawing board and have a rethink. We've got some gigs coming up and I know it's going to be hard to top something like this," Liam reckons. Bono also defended peaceful G8 protesters: "We don't need bullets and bombs. We believe in peaceful protest. Civil disobedience can work and we need to take this to the streets." |
