Profile: Richard Dodd/Dicky Dodd was born at New Cross Hospital, and later educated at Perry Hall Infants/Junior Schools and Wednesfield High.  After taking a Saturday job at a greengrocers in Wednesfield High Street for a few years, he then began his broadcasting career in what was the the pre-1994 GWR days of Beacon Radio and sister station WABC on the affectionately named 'Graveyard' overnight shift.  Latterly he moved to a less sleep depriving evening shift before finding a bit of middle ground on the Breakfast show.  1999 saw a move south to GWR's nearby station Wyvern FM where he was the station's Programme Controller and Drivetime presenter.

By the following year of 2000, he'd relocated, again regionally, to Wolverhampton on Forever Broadcasting's SALLIE station, 107.7 The Wolf, once again as Programme Controller but also as Breakfast Presenter.  Dicky also presented Drivetime as well as on many of the station's outside broadcasts.

2003 saw Dicky return to his roots at Classic Gold WABC 990/1017 for the West Midlands and Shropshire as Brand Manager for Classic Gold as well as presenting the Drivetime Show.  Scott Lyons (to whom we give thanks for the provision of the above information) says: '...as far as radio history in the West Midlands is concerned, it's a case of 'local lad comes good' in what is a very fierce and competitive world.  He has a very strong listener base and his local accent and down-to-earth manner is a real ratings winner....'  '...it really is testament to his local knowledge, presentation style and popularity in the area....'

The worst thing Dicky has ever done whilst broadcasting, involved a 20 minute nap - induced by a need to cover for the next presenter who'd failed to turn up for his scheduled 2:00am show.  Outside of the radio business, Dicky is a family man, enjoying time with his wife Julie and two children, Sophie & Reece.  Musically, his favourite albums are 'Greatest Hits' packages from Lionel Richie & The Style Council - the first single he ever bought was 'Green Onions' by Booker T & The MGs and perhaps the most memorable was 'All Of My Life' by KC & JoJo, as this was a tune played at his wedding.

Whereabouts: Richard / Dicky was presenting the local drivetime show on Classic Gold WABC 990/1017 from 3pm - 7pm weekdays until the takeover of his former station, 107.7 The Wolf by The Wireless Group in February 2004.  As a result of an approach by station bosses, he went back to the Wolverhampton station from Monday 29th March 2004 and currently presents the 'Dicky & Ginger In The Morning' Breakfast Show.from 6:00am, and the Retro Countdown on Saturdays from 10:00am-Noon.
