January 27, 2001 |
Cami and mom are really getting in sync. Cami is actually
sleeping peacefully alone in the crib without having to use the pacifier.
Woohoo.
Cynthia and I went to the mall this evening to pick up a few things. It's nice to have a built in experienced babysitter in Cynthia's mom. She has come down to stay with us for a couple of weeks, or until Cynthia and I pack her stuff and put it on the sidewalk. I seriously doubt that would ever actually happen as she has been very conscientious of allowing us space to experience our daughter. She is truly a blessing. Cami really likes the Aggie War Hymn...she and daddy love to "Saw varsity's horns off...Short...hey." |
|||
January 26, 2001 |
We go home today. Cynthia's legs look great, Cami's gained a
couple of ounces and mom and dad have actually gotten some rest. It'll be nice
to be in our own home.
We got all checked out and planned on leaving after the 1 o'clock feeding. Cami had other ideas. She didn't want to wake up, then she didn't want to take to Cynthia, then she wouldn't stop crying, you get the picture. It's amazing, when that starts to happen, you go through a myriad of emotions: concern, frustration, anger, guilt for being angry, impatience, etc. We had them all. We finally got away around 3, Cami slept the whole way home. Our neighbor Sid heard us drive up and met us in the driveway. It's wonderful to have such caring friends and family. They are truly excited for us and genuinely concerned about our new family. I think Cami must like her new home, she has been extremely relaxed the entire time. Cynthia's milk has definitely started to come in so she has started reducing the amount of supplemental formula we're giving Cami. |
|||
January 25, 2001 |
We let the nursery take Cami early this AM so mom and dad
could get some rest. I went to check on her around 7:30 and she was three rows
deep in a full nursery crying very forcefully. I had to leave. Now, I'm generally
not an emotional guy, but that was tough. One of my coworkers asked if they had
to replace the glass in the nursery, but I laughed and said "no,
I just had to walk away."
The pediatrician came down and said Cami has lost about a pound, but not to worry too much. She did ask us to supplement her feedings with a little bit of formula. So I added that to the log. Yea, that's right I have been keeping a record of all Cami's inputs and outputs right down to the start and end times, durations, percentage of actual feeding to resting, etc. etc. That's anal, but I think the nursery gets a kick out of it when they come down and ask how Cami is doing. Cami did great tonight, actually sleeping a little too long between feedings. It's all right with us, we need the rest. |
|||
January 24, 2001 |
Dr. Jackson told Cynthia she could go home tomorrow. We'll
see.
Cami's still feeding OK and Cynthia's milk has not come in, but that is not abnormal. It will take a few days. She gave us another rough night. It was broken up with a trip to the sonogram lab to look at Cynthia's legs. They have swelled up pretty big and the nurse is concerned there may be a blood clot. The sonogram turned out negative for clotting. That's good news, but it's official, Cynthia's staying through Friday. |
|||
January 23, 2001 |
Today's my mom's birthday and anniversary. Some said it
would've been neat if Cami was born today, I say no way, my girl needs her own
birthday! I think mom agrees.
Breast feeding continues to go well. Cami seems to fall asleep right after getting started on mom. It's a lot of work to keep her awake. I usually tickle her feet, that seems to work, and it's fun too. I tried to go to work this evening after the office had closed. I figured I could get a few things done...wrong. As soon as I got there I turned on the computer, opened Microsoft Word, started to type, stopped, flipped over to the web page for just a few peeks and realized there was no reason to fight it. I wanted to be with Cami, and not even work was going to stop me. I never thought I would have ever said something like that! Tonight was a rough one. Cami didn't feed very well and was up crying all night. We did not give her to the nursery at all, choosing to tough it out. That was tiresome, but worth it. |
|||
January 22, 2001 |
They let Cynthia head to the room around noon or a little
before. We made a pit stop at the nursery so Cynthia could take another look at
little Cami.
She's been resting comfortably and got to enjoy Cami's company for most of the afternoon. Lot's of pictures and lots of ooohs and aaahs. Cynthia even started to breast feed. It was actually pretty smooth. Cami took to mom as well as could be expected. For the first night we let the nursery keep Cami, except for feedings. Other than that we tried to get some rest. Yes, I did stay with her. Good Husband, good husband. I even changed her diaper a time or two. |
|||
January 22, 2001 |
Cynthia came and woke me this morning around 3:00 AM. Ever
the loving husband, I popped up in bed and kicked her!
You know how your spouse sometimes doesn't even have to say anything you just know what their thinking. Well that was the case this morning. I asked her if she had her bag packed, she just looked at me, so I told her to call the doctor and I would throw some things together. We got to the hospital around 4:00 AM and they set us up in a room and tried to make Cynthia as comfortable as possible. Dr. Jackson always calls in around 5:00 AM so we were just waiting. The nurse said that Cynthia was truly in labor but that Doc has been known to work miracles and might stop the labor. Apparently, that was not going to work for Cynthia, or the baby, because her water broke about 5 till 5, just in time for the Doc's call. Of course now everything changed, here comes the IV, calls to the anesthesiologist, a set of scrubs for Daddy, yada yada yada. I started making phone calls, first to my sister, no answer, Cynthia's parents, no answer, hey guys...we're having a baby here, answer the phone... I called my folks next, thank goodness, someone answered. Like myself earlier, they needed no explanation, a call at 5 AM from me, at this point in my life, meant one thing only. They said they are on the way. Next was Cynthia's brother, bingo, two in a row, I asked him to handle making the rest of the calls on her side of the family tree while I went back to my side. I tried my sister again, seems she just talked to Cynthia, you got to love caller ID and a resourceful sister. When she answered she was in the shower getting ready to come join us. Finally, I got through to both my grandmothers but missed my Aunt and Uncle. The Doc arrived around 6:00 AM and rearranged some of the scheduled C-sections to set us up for a 7:00 AM delivery. The anesthesiologist also arrived to do the epidural which meant Daddy needed to go get acquainted with the waiting room. While I was waiting, the folks showed up then my sister. Tick tock tick tock. I headed back to see how Cynthia was doing and she was feeling "great." Seems the epidural kicked in. About 5 after 7 they took her in the operating room and told me they would get me when they were ready. I sat down in the rocking chair to relax...rock rock rock rock...rock rock rock rock...rock rock rock rock...come get me already. When I went in Cynthia was all prepped and ready, they sat me down by her head and I took a few seconds to define my boundaries. It's OK look here, I don't want to look there, I might not want to see that part, I DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO LOOK OVER THE LITTLE SCREEN...you get the idea. Everyone got started and talking amongst themselves. Seems Dr. Jackson went to a wedding where they did not serve any alcohol!?! It's interesting to come to the realization that for them this is just another day at the office. Part of me wanted to say, "Hey, pay attention that's my wife and my child there", but I figured as long as they are just chit chatting everything must be going fine. I heard Doc mumble something about it being very green! I couldn't resist so I stood up looked down at Cynthia and said "Doc said the baby was green, we need to talk." The anesthesiologist liked that one particularly because he remarked that while I didn't say much, when I did it was a zinger. Anyway, they got the little one out and placed it on Cynthia's belly. That's when I violated one of my boundaries and looked directly at the baby. I saw two things: 1. It was a girl (fooled us all). 2. It was the most gooey, gray, slimy little thing I had ever seen, just like on the Discovery Channel. I immediately returned my eyes to "My area" and told Cynthia we had a little girl. They took Cameron Vaughn over to the cleaning station and started working on her. Thank God. Once she was presentable I went over and saw the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. You can't understand the feeling until you experience it. There is an immediate and unquestioning emotion of love that pours out over this person who you have just met, know nothing about, but somehow can't stop looking at. It's nothing like the love for a spouse, friend, Mother, Father, Sister, etc. This is your child, no one else's. After bath time, it was back to Mommy for a few photos then off to get weighed, tagged and fingerprinted errrrr footprinted. Before I could get to the nursery I stopped in the hall to show the folks and sis. I didn't immediately let on to Cami's sex, but somehow, to a person, each one guessed right. After dropping her in the nursery I headed back to post op to be with Mom. I apologized to her saying that I think I squeezed too hard and something popped out. I wasn't exactly sure what it was until I saw that we now had a boy. The anesthesiologist loved that one, but Cynthia didn't even flinch, even under heavy sedation I can't blow one by her. |
|||
January 21, 2001 | We spent the day working on the baby's room. We made some progress, but we still have a long way to go. The armoire arrives on Wed. and it will complete the furniture. Right now all the wonderful shower gifts are waiting in the living room to get unboxed and set up, I hope we make it.
January 19, 2001 |
...and the roller coaster ride continues. We just thought we
would set the date at today's appointment, but nooooo, Doc wants to see Cynthia
next week, then possibly the week after before he decides to go in after it. My
opinion, I think it's done, the little timer has gone off, the button on the
turkey has popped, take it already...
Cynthia, ever the thoughtful person, suggested I might go ahead and head to FL on business Wed. and Thurs. She said she would be fine....I DON'T THINK SO! I seem to remember a certain ski trip about 12 years ago when she said "go ahead down the mountain without me, I'll be fine." Yea, it was colder in the room that night than outside! I think I'll stay. I want to anyway. |
|||
January 17, 2001 |
Good news first...Mom and the baby are fine. Seems the
kidney issue that concerned the doctor was one of two things, a dilated kidney, not
good, or fluid in the bowel, not bad. It was fluid in the bowels.
Cynthia goes back on Friday, I hope they schedule the C-Section, I work a lot better with a schedule. This unknown thing is not for me... Anyway, for everyone who helped with "positive thoughts" it worked. Thanks from the both of us. |
|||
January 16, 2001 |
We finally got to see Cynthia's doctor today. He confirmed
what Cynthia's been feeling...that is one big kid in there! He estimates 8 to 9
lbs. They wanted to take some measurements but the baby is too big. To put it in
the doctors words "[Cynthia] is all boobs and baby." Unfortunately, I
have some morbid satisfaction with the fact that it's a big one.
On a more serious note, he has asked us to come back for a high resolution ultrasound tomorrow. Apparently, he has been worried about the baby's kidneys but would not elaborate. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to report good news, until then think positive thoughts...we are. He also said that he's going in after it next week...we don't know when, but it will be next week. If your waiting to vote do it now, time is running out. |
|||
January 13, 2001 | The said she can go home today so her folks, brother and I went up to the hospital around nine this morning. We found Cynthia in bed, showered, in her street clothes with that look of "take me home." She signed the papers, checked out of Hermann Memorial City, and checked in to Joiner Memorial Hermann Ben Taub M.D. Anderson Sisters of Charity Hospital in Greatwood TX. Doctor of one on staff, with one nurse, cook, and all-around great guy...that's me if you haven't figured it out.
January 12, 2001 | We were thinking they would release Cynthia today, but they want one more night of observation. The pain just won't stop. My unscientific theory is she has one great big object in her rearranging the furniture and there is not a whole lot we can do.
January 11, 2001 |
Still no definitive word. They continue to think it's a
kidney infection or stone. There is no way to confirm a stone without doing an
x-ray which is of course of limits while pregnant.
The new ultrasound has revealed that she is one week farther along than everyone figured. Therefore, they will continue to try and control the contractions but frankly, if she goes into full blown labor it would be OK to take the baby, which weighs in at a "light" 7lbs 13ozs. |
|||
January 10, 2001 |
Update....the doc stuck Cynthia in the hospital (they stuck
her a couple of other places but we won't go there). Since they can't figure out
the cause of the pain they want to observe her overnight. They have done more
ultrasounds and other tests. They suspect a kidney infection or maybe a stone
(yuk!). We'll know more tomorrow.
We also learned that she has been having contractions, she just could not tell due to the back (kidney) pain. They are trying to control the contractions to avoid going into labor. |
|||
January 10, 2001 |
Well it's three AM Wednesday morning and Cynthia is still
miserable. Our little bundle of joy has decided to park itself in a position
that's causing a great deal of "discomfort" to Cynthia's back.
This kid is already like his dad, always testing the water and pushing the limits. We have asked it nicely to move, but it is not listening. If it continues to disobey us, I'll have no choice but to GROUND IT TO IT'S WOMB...errrrrrr...I MEAN ROOM. That's right, no coming out, not even to eat or go to the bathroom for the next, say, three weeks. Maybe then it'll think twice before challenging us... |
|||
January 9, 2001 | Cynthia was supposed to have an appointment today. Unfortunately, our doctor has had a family emergency and been called away. Our thoughts are, of course, with his family, but, I'm a little concerned that he has rescheduled her appointment and she won't see him for another two weeks. I have a sneaking suspicion he won't be here for the big day. If her pain persists I hope she'll see whoever is taking his patients.
January 7, 2001 |
I have spent the weekend doing what I could to try to help
Cynthia feel a little better. It looks as though she has gotten the
flu. The aches and pains of the flu on top of the aches and pains of being over eight
months pregnant must...suck. I've got to hand it to her, unlike her
husband when he feels ill, she did call the doctor. He prescribed some medicine
as well as bed rest. Hopefully she'll feel better in time for the baby shower
Wednesday that her office is coordinating.
Tuesday she has another appointment, if the baby is still breach I hope the doctor decides to schedule the C-section so we can remove that little "unknown" from our brains and start preparing. |
|||
January 2, 2001 | Well we survived the new year and stumbled back to work this morning. Cynthia had another doctor's visit this afternoon. The baby is still breach, so Doc wants her to start coming in each week now as we enter the home stretch. If the kid doesn't turn on it's own Doc is going to schedule a C-Section later this month. LATER THIS MONTH! Crap it's almost here...I gotta go...
December 31, 2000 |
Had the folks over for New Year's. We are still trying to
keep Cynthia off her feet. I guess anyone who has been pregnant knows what she
is going through right now. I can't be fun.
Well the Ags lost again, only this time it was fun to watch...disappointing...but fun. I have never, and may never, see our team play in blizzard conditions again, let alone blizzard conditions in Shreveport, LA! |
|||
December 29-30, 2000 | We flew to Corpus Christi this weekend. Originally we were going to visit some friends of Cynthia's, but they had to bale at the last minute, and we didn't know how we would kill time...until we ran into a coworker of mine form H. A. Lott. We ended up spending the day Saturday reminiscing, joking, laughing, all those things you do with good friends. It's definitely a small world.
December 25, 2000 |
It was hard, but with Mom's help, we kept Cynthia off her
feet today. Her legs have been swelling more than usual the past couple of
weeks.
This will be the last peaceful Christmas for a while. Next year I'm sure will be chasing our little bundle of joy all over the house. The upside though, is that means toys, lots of toys...fun for Daddy's everywhere! I wrapped her presents in diapers this year, it seemed kinda fitting, problem was I did a pretty good job of it. I know, I know, don't get too confident, those packages weren't kicking, crying and peeing... |
|||
December 24, 2000 | We had Christmas Eve at the folks. Christmas Eve dinner at my folks is what makes Christmas Christmas for me (even though there were no mashed potatoes).
December 16, 2000 |
The Childbirth classes were this AM. Like the Infant Care,
this was a good session. I highly recommend it. The only problem was the nurse
had a real pelvic bone skeleton thingy and a baby doll. I can't imagine how that
thing is going to fit through there...hello epidural...
It was Cynthia's birthday today. My folks, sister and I took her to see How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Good flick. |
|||
December 13, 2000 |
We had the infant care class tonight. This was another one of
those "I'll do it for the good of the cause" sort of things. The only
problem was the class was pretty good. I found out I could diaper a baby's butt
as well as it's head (Teacher thought the head thing was pretty cute).
Seriously, when Cynthia brought up these classes a month or two ago, I wasn't that receptive to it, but she thought we should go. There were three classes: Infant Care, Childbirth and Nursing (Mom wanted to come to the infant care class as well). Oh, and all the classes are at the Baby's R Us...during the evening...in full view...of everyone! Well, I made a deal...I would do the Childbirth, privately at home. I would do the Infant Care...but only with Cynthia. Sorry, but I was not showing up with my Mommy and my wifey! Mom would just have to go without me...sorry Mom. I drew the line at the nursing classes... |
|||
November 24, 2000 | Ags lost...dammit
November 23, 2000 |
Well she never ceases to amaze...Cynthia cooked a wonderful Thanksgiving meal for the family today. How she does it with that bowling ball strapped to her stomach I'll never know. Go Ags, BTHOtu!
November 18, 2000 |
More web updates. I hope everyone likes the new format. I haven't been updating as often as I would like. I got an email early on suggesting I use another name beside "little one", "it", etc. Well now's everyone's chance to help with naming whosywhatsis. Click on "Fun Stuff" and play the name game. We really need the help. |
|||
November 17, 2000 | Cynthia got in touch with the doctor this morning. She failed the glucose test by a couple of points. She has to go back and take a longer one. Doc says not to worry, happens all the time.
November 16, 2000 | Cynthia got a voicemail late today asking her to call the doctors office they needed to visit. This is never good, nothing good ever follows "we need to talk." Even though, I hate it when people call and leave messages like that, just tell us what the message is and don't make us wait until tomorrow to find out. Oh well, it can't be that bad.
November 13, 2000 | Cynthia had a checkup this AM. They took some more ultrasounds and ran a glucose test. Doc asked if we had any questions, so asked the one question that has been bugging me from the first ultrasound, "Will it ever grow into that great big head?" He laughed, looked at me and I could tell he was thinking from the looks of its Daddy's head - NO! Other than that everything was fine. I did hear its heartbeat for the first time. I've heard we only have so many beats in us, I sure hope the little one slows its down and paces itself. It ain't going to last long at the rate its using them up.
November 10, 2000 |
We voted this week. I wonder if Cynthia could have cast two votes? Maybe if we were living in Florida. Seriously, I think the little one will be old enough to count before they sort this thing out. What a fiasco. Cynthia spent the last couple of days registering for her shower. I have asked for a new regulator, BC, dive computer. I can't wait... |
|||
October |
OK, OK I haven't been updating the page like I should have. Works been busy...no, I've been out of town...no, I haven't been feeling well...Oh crap I just haven't done it. I really do appreciate all the inquiries though, I didn't realize that that many people had been following our progress. I apologize to all! Cynthia's appointment have been pretty routine. That's a good thing. We have been doing some of that baby shopping. We're starting to look at cribs, changing tables, rockers, etc. I didn't realize there was all this stuff. I keep telling Cynthia that a nice sturdy box ought to do the trick. She just looks at me and I laugh then she laughs. The problem is, I think a box really just might do the trick! We are starting to think about names now. She suggests names and I test them out..."Now starting at Quarterback for the Texas Aggies...Jarred Joiner." Hey that one might work! It sounds better if you say it with a slight echo effect in your voice..."Nowowowow Startinginginging atatat Quarterbackbackback" you get the idea.
|
|||
September 16-23, 2000 | Went to Aruba. Did a little diving, did a little gambling, did a lot of bummin' around. I don't think we'll go back anytime soon. The diving was fair, although I did see my first seahorse! I made sure to let Cynthia know that it was only and "average" seahorse, by seahorse standards of course!?! We did end up with one nice keepsake souvenir from the trip. I was able to find a simple gold wedding band for Cynthia since her other ring has gotten a little snug. She was happy.
September 8, 2000 | We got the results today, everything checked out fine.
August 30, 2000 |
Today was the amniocentesis (I think I got that right). We got to see some hi-res ultrasounds of the little one. It's amazing what you can see spine, ribs, legs, fingers and that GREAT BIG HEAD. Check out the ultrasounds for a close-up. Before the test was done we met with a genetic counselor. I ordered a pretty blonde girl with long legs or a tall athletic male...she didn't think I was funny. Seriously, this lady asks Cynthia and I about our families where they are from etc. etc. I guess it helps her classify us and assign risk factors of various health disorders. She went through the questions with Cynthia first which gave me a heads up on what to expect. When she got to me she asked if my parents were living, I said "yes", she then asked their names, so I told her, "Tom and Judi." Then she asked if they had any brothers or sisters and I said "yes they did." She said how many I said "he has a sister, she has a brother." She asked their names, I said "I already told you." She looked puzzled, I said again "I just told you their names." She didn't think that was funny either...or she didn't get it! Seriously, this whole genetic counseling was a waste of time...for us...I can only imagine what it is like for that 1/2 of 1% who actually find something. Results from the tests will be in about a week. |
|||
August 19-26 | We spent the week in Cayman. Cynthia couldn't dive, but that didn't stop me. It just kept me from acting overly excited about the dives. I think I did a pretty good job of making them sound average. It was weird not having my "buddy" there with me. Oh well, the topside activities were just as good. Perry and Lori, friends from college, joined us for the first part of the week. It was their first "real" trip away from their three kids, seemed like they had a great time. Check out the pictures page to see Lori and her braids. Also check out the dive photos taken by some new friends from Ohio.
August 5, 2000 | The baby received its first international email this week. It's amazing how technology evolves. I remember the story of my father notifying my mothers parents about my birth. My grandparents were living in Egypt at the time and my father sent a telegram informing them of my birth, he told them all was well and the "outside plumbing was installed." My grandfather, the first of three generations of architects and builders (that's another story for another time) had to let my grandmother know that meant I was a boy. Oh well, I wonder how this next generation will communicate...
August 4, 2000 | I didn't think I was out of town that long...my wife is beginning to show. There is a decided little "pooch" to that enviably flat belly she once sported (and soon will again). I guess this thing is really happening...I need to go sit down!
July 30, 2000 | I have been traveling quite a bit lately, so the updates are getting spread farther apart. It's probably a good thing, this reading must be a little boring for some. No new doctor visits, or updates to report, just waiting for the amniowhosiwhatsis to come late in August. We are looking forward to a little R&R with some friends of ours next month. They, like us, were married in August so it's going to be a nice anniversary celebration for all. This will be their first tropical vacation since their three kids, yes, three kids, were born. It may be one of our last for a while (short while). I'm going to have to be careful, there's diving where we're going and Cynthia can't go. I haven't decided if I should go without her, or not.
July 26, 2000 | The baby got its first baby gift from Ryan, "cousin to be." Those Beanie Babies have about 6 months of good clean living before becoming slobber infested chew toys...
July 16, 2000 | Posted the new updates today. I said I would send out some web page notifications a while back and never did. This time it goes out for sure, so if you are a new visitor, please read on if you feel, but most definitely send the little one an email at baby@thejoiners.com and say hi.
July 12, 2000 | Cynthia had another doctor visit today, the blood work showed no problems. The new ultrasound actually looks like a little person, albeit one with a big head. I hope the little one grows into it. She has scheduled an amniosomethingorother test for late August. I won't be out of town for that one!
July 4, 2000 | We spent some time this AM updating the page. I'll be sending it out to our friends this evening. If your a first time visitor, welcome, if not, welcome back.
June 27, 2000 |
Cynthia had her first official visit to her doctor today. He confirmed no scuba diving for her! He didn't say anything about me (other than don't rub it in). He took a couple of new ultrasounds, I've already posted my opinion of those things. The doc says the little one is 8 weeks 3 days old, and should join us no later than February 3, 2001. Actually, he said if it doesn't show up by then, he's going in after it! We are starting to receive emails from friends who have visited the site. Thanks. We are saving them to put in a book or something, so keep them coming. I think it will be fun one day to turn them over to the grown up little one saying something like "back in my day we had this thing called email and the internet..." |
|||
June 26, 2000 |
We told my folks last night. We used this page as the vehicle to get the message to them, Mom saw the banner at the top of the page right away, Dad well...didn't catch on. What's with the guys in this group. I wonder if they had any faith in me? I know Cynthia was threatening to put more men on the job if I didn't get it right soon, but c'mon. Received some e-mail responses for the website today. There's some name calling going on! OK, that's my mom we're talking about, I'm not sure I like that. By the way, the person that thought the name up...I know where you live... |
|||
June 18, 2000 | We told Cynthia's folks today. They seemed excited. We gave them a pacifier in a box as a gift and only Marie got it right away, Joe took a second.
June 13, 2000 | We had a bit of a scare today. Things weren't feeling quite right for Cynthia so she visited the doctor. Happily, all is well, and our first ultrasound was taken. Follow the ultrasounds link to view the picture. Somehow I think all the ultrasound pictures I have ever seen are all the same, they never look any different. Anyhow, the doctor says the baby is between the two X's on the image, I'll let you formulate your own opinion.
June 5, 2000 | We spilled the beans to my sister today. I think we're lucky to have one of the proudest and excited Aunts-to-be. I hope the excitement continues, we're going to need those baby sitting services.
June 2, 2000 | Cynthia notified the doctor today, they weren't too concerned, they said they will see her in late June, about three weeks. I guess they have been through this before.
June 1, 2000 | I new something was up when she gave me this card with a couple of plastic thingy's shoved inside. I didn't know what two lines or a plus sign meant...officially, but I knew from the smile on her face that it had finally happened. You see after waiting 11 years to even start trying, and one year of trying we were kinda wondering if it was meant to be. I guess it was, I'm still in a little bit of shock. We decided to wait a while before telling anyone about the baby, with Father's Day and Cynthia's parents 50th wedding anniversary around the corner this will make a nice inexpensive gift.
