.:MURGELI:.
Modern Finnish rock music since 1999.
A music to chill out, party, revenge, suffocate,
agony and angst with.
The band is from Iittala (this little village
in the middle of nowhere), near Hämeenlinna.
Band counts for 4 musicians + 1 temporary
guitar player to make more noise on gigs, if needed.
Today band has done about 70 gigs across Finland,
many places conquered, many hearts left broken.
LINE UP:
Olli Pitkänen - Guitar, Vocals
Jussi Mikkola - Guitar, Vocals, keyboards
Sami Sihvo - Bass
Sami Nuottakari - Drums
Musical influences differs between players, only few one goes
for them all; Danzig, Kent for example. As individuals
there comes names such as Weezer, Radiohead,
Dream Theater etc etc. Pretty twisted, ain't it?
Band was formed, as bands usualy do, to have fun in 1999.
As years have gone by we've gained more skills
to play in the side of having fun and
playing around. And now, i quess that
you can say that we can't live without
music anymore, well maybe by clinical
medical test someone could say that the the
body works, but the soul would be dead.
In the beginning the band played mostly
acoustic music but since then we've managed
to put 2 guitars, bass, drums and 2 male vocals
(keyboards only when recording) to this band.
Jussi and Olli are the original members with Jonna Laimi,
who now have parted ways with the band.
By first the band worked under the name KUUSKAJASKARI.
When we first started to plan going to
studio, we thought that we should get a bass player too
and we caught Sami Sihvo to handle the duty.
For the first demo we had to hire a session drummer,
Tommi Saksa who did his work very well indeed.
In December 1999 we recorded a demo tape
called ÄLÄ ENÄÄ PELKÄÄ. The feelings we're
absolutely amazing when we first got to
hear our first recording.
After the recording came the time to start
doing gigs around the neighbourhood and getting a full time
drummer was a must thing to do. So we found this guy
who had a metal background and was strange enough.
Sami Nuottakari had joined the band. Now the band
was in full form to be let loose.
In May 2000 it was time to go to studio again and
record few songs. PIENI SYDÄN E.P. was recorded including
three songs.
Summer and fall was time for playing gigs
around familiar and strange, new places.
Succes starts to spread as more fans seemed to appear to gigs.
In december it was studio time again, second
time this year and we managed to record an
E.P. simply named it MURGELI.
The bands musical identity started to reach it's
form in that E.P. The E.P. contained four
tracks + one hidden bonus track wich was
done in a weird way singing bot finnish and english
in that song. As we speak i can say that when
it's played live these days you never know how
progressive the band can get with it.
It can grow to monstrous 15 minutes long dramatic epic.
March 2001 it was the time for our first
music video to be filemed. And believe me it was cold
doing a video almost naked in the winter.
The video was shot in the dark woods of
Renko and in a train hall in Hyvinkää.
Video was directed by Anni Pänkäälä and
captured to tape by Antti Hietasola and
Kaisamari Sahlman.
We also recorded another E.P. in the early 2001,
named BONANZA in very fast, easy and low financial way.
From the MURGELI E.P. we selected song
HEIKKO to be on a compilation disc by UPLIFT records.
The summer was time for playing gigs in
various festivals, worth to mention was the
legendary ÄMY-festival in Hämeenlinna, awesome show!.
December 2001 and we headed for studio again.
This time it was time to record 11.KÄSKY E.P.
including three songs.
The year 2002 has been mainly touring across finland,
many festivals again; charity festival in Hämeenlinna,
Sun Dance Day in Hyvinkää and Hukkarock at Pohjanmaa.
So what can we say? it has been a good summer in all
means and in the fall its time to go and play a
gig in GERMANY! wow!!! first gig over the seas!
be prepared Germany! here we come!.
Overall i can say that the succes and the
progression of the band has been very positive
and pleasant. Many, many people to thank for
their support and the things that they have done.
Thank you.
See you all and take care.
