  Religion, what an out-dated concept…
Posted by Stange on Sunday, September 8, 2002

Back from two days of my PC being infected by the W95.CIH virus… I know… I know… I should not let my PC get infected with some ancient virus… If only it were not so damned resilient!

So… Onto the real business… My good friend Jon (you know, the daft geezer with the sunglasses) inspired me to write a little bit about religion… Knowing me it will probably just be fast and hard… Just like one of those international train-thingies…

First of all, let me state that almost 90% of the people that make out my friends and relations are Humanists… That is the same 'religion' as mine…

I hate the word religion… When I think of religion I think of rules and regulations set up aeons ago that are still followed today, unchanged or edited to fit modern times… The only things that have changed is that even killing in the name of one's deity is now frowned upon, which means mainly Christianity seems very peaceful… Another reason why I hate religion is the need to follow something higher… And with 'follow' I mean 'blame everything that goes wrong on'… Religion seems to fit a certain group of people very well… The kind of people that wish to do all sorts of stuff that is not allowed, but is still seen as righteous when done in the name of the deity...

I used to be an Atheist… During that time I discarded everything special and strange as either plain coincidence or luck… Suffice to say I wasn't a very cheerful fellow and my life was rather bleak and dull… During that period in my life I used to quote Dogma a lot… "Having a good idea is better than believing…" How wrong I was…

I came to the conclusion somewhere soon after graduating from high-school that not everything is plain coincidence or luck… If so I must have been 'plain lucky' for my entire high-school years, always just making the grade… It was a remark that my dad made that changed my way of thinking… "It seems you really have a guardian angel…" And when I think of it now, I believe him… When you look at the amount of 'luck' I have had over the past few years something seems out of order… Just about everything I do seems to end up just right… Although the entire thing is balanced by the occasional day of everything going wrong… "Must be a ying-yang thing" as my friend Dean said...

Before I wander too far from the subject, let me give you my final thoughts… I do not follow a religion in the strict sense… Although most of the ideas and beliefs of the Humanist are the same as mine I have my doubts… I do not have a good idea so to say… All I know is that I believe… I believe in something… What that may be, I do not know… Yet… I think that faith, being what mankind should have instead of a good idea, is the thing that follows believing in our dying days… Believing in something means one is adhering to certain things… Certain things make believing easier… When believing is made easier it is sooner or later replaced by a strong feeling, a feeling of faith… Faith in something… Be it God, Allah or whatever Hindu god comes to mind…

So, to finish things off… Don't have a good idea… Believe in one… Believing in one's ideas brings faith… Do not let yourself be restricted by religion, for it will stop you from believing and therefore also stop you from having faith… Be an individual… Walk the road of your own destiny; let not religious dogma be a stone in your shoe…

An old statement of mine concerning musical taste…
Posted by Stange on Friday, September 6, 2002

My choice of music has been commented on by a wide variety of people for quite some time now. Many applaud me for listening to bands such as Iron Maiden and Cradle of Filth, but the same people have also shunned me for listening to bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit.

It has been said many a time and it will be said for long after I have said this, commercial music is the devil. And I for one agree, most of the time. I find it fine for people to say this and I say it about a lot of bands too. But it is wrong to automatically think someone is a fake when he or she enjoys listening to the occasional Korn song or loves to listen to Limp Bizkit when he or she is upset about something.

The core of my argument is, let everyone have freedom of speech when it comes to music. Everyone has their own tastes, their own likes and dislikes. Let these trivial matters not stand in the way of good conversations and enjoyable times. In the immortal words of Chris Rock "let it slide!" And last but not least folks; it's just music!

That is, unless you listen to trance, dance or any of that other computer-generated crap. Go buy some real music you wankers!

  I am on fire today!

Wow… My third post today already! I mean… Goddamn that is a lot!

I would like to thank Sander for getting me into using Verdana as a font… It has the informality or Arial, yet also has the air of unity that Courier (New) has… Well-done man! Nobody has ever managed to get me of either of them… Now I think I will never use another one again!

Well… My cousin decided not to kill me for showing her picture, as she was convinced that this place is deserted anyway… We know different, do we not guys?

I seem to be addicted to Weezer, especially the song Keep Fishing… I do not know why, but it just sounds fantastic!

Found a new thing to keep me busy… I am compiling a list of girls that I have been interested in as in 'I have hunted her…' This list includes pictures and I might even publish it on the web, so watch out! I will notify all that I deem worthy of viewing it by email and I will keep it operational for about a day… So lets hope you get an email from me soon!

That is once again it for now… Until next time lads and lasses…

  Old friends revisited…

A few things I want to share with you people…

First of all… I have encountered someone from my dark and deep past… A person who knows me from long before I became the strange lad you know and love today… She happens to be in the same course as me, although in a different class… Still, a great experience!

Second of all… I am keeping this part of my website, but it will soon be moving to the 'ghetto' part of my web-space… In it's place will stand a website filled with all sorts of stuff… Hopefully even some JAVA bits that I will try and program over the next few weeks… But more on that later…

And believe me people; teambuilding is worse than the school-time that follows… When you are in college you do not want to become friends with everyone! Let me figure out for myself who I like or not… I do not need some snotty teacher to tell me that!

My cousin will kill me for this, but what the hell… This is the coolest person in my family! (Besides me…)

Once again enough from me! Live long and prosper my little friends…

l1f3 1$ 4 b1zn1tch, s0 STFU 4nd l3t$ g3t h1gh!

Ok, so maybe not all happy ranting, but they will be fun… At least to me anyway, which is what counts… Biznitchez!

First of all, let me start by saying that school is a total biznatch… And I mean… Wow! No, really… School is fine… L33t is more the word… Even though I have to leave the house at 7:30 and will not be home until at least 18:30… PHUK!

Argh… The little l33t-bug got a hold of me there… My app… Never mind… I do not owe anything to anyone but Darrell… (I will get you that 5 euros as soon as possible…) So, on to the 'serious' stuff…

Let me begin with a little joke I came up with on the fly…

Why role-players should not be allowed into society

Company man - "So, we just need you to write down in fifteen characters or less what you are like, to see if you are right for the job…"

Hands role-player a sheet of paper and a pen…

Role-player - "That is easy! Cleric… Paladin… Rogue…"

I know it is crud, but I wanted to share it with you guys anyway…

Uhm… I can hear some l33t pr0n calling my name… So it is time for me to leave… May your life be less bumpy than the face of Robbie van Houwelingen…

<New Found Glory - The Minute I Met You>

I would like to start off by saying I had everything to do with it.
You may think that I lie real well; you can tell that I'm holding it in.
Never mind the time or the spinning of your head.
I could tell my life was changing since the minute I met you.

And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd probably choke on the words I never said.
And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd bury my heart and fall back in my bed.

And what a sight that will be, yeah.

I will never tell you this, but I'm scared of falling apart.
It may seem like I'm holding it together but the weather is making it hard.
Never mind the time or the spinning of your head.
I could tell my life was changing since the minute I met you.

And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd probably choke on the words I never said.
And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd bury my heart and fall back in my bed.

And what a sight that will be; all my friends surrounding me.

Just 'cause you made it this far, doesn't mean you've made it.

And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd probably choke on the words I never said.
And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd bury my heart and fall back in my bed.

And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd probably choke on the words I never said.
And if I stop ever thinking of you, I'd bury my heart and fall back in my bed.

And what a sight that will be.

And what a sight that will be, yeah.

</New Found Glory - The Minute I Met You>

Let me explain this sudden outburst. At certain times after the clock strike twelve, my mind starts to slip. Overcome by pure emotion I throw caution to the wind. My conscience appears on my shoulder, the angel on one side, and the daemon on the other. Having had enough of goody-two-shoes I smack him away and hold the daemon up high. Let it be known, fuck the consequences.

  Going to the movies…

I just felt like sharing a list of movies I have been to in the past… Nothing important, call it me inventorying… I went to see the italic ones twice… OV means I saw the original version, meaning with English voices and Dutch subtitles…

[list deleted - table conflict]

This list dates back to round and about 1998… It is still missing a lot of movies…

I am leaving you alone for a little while… Until the next post that is… Take care!

With a little help from my friends…
Posted by Stange on Tuesday, August 27, 2002

Inspired by one of my friends I have decided to make a little list of my friends… All with short introductions…

Dean

Dean has been my best friend for nigh-on four years. This is the guy who got me addicted to Warhammer and Magic. Together we discovered Dungeons and Dragons (as far as I can remember) and well, anime was his own doing. About to start the same Graphic Media Technology course as I am, so I will be stuck to him for a few extra years.

Patrick

Dean's little brother. Collectively known as 'Mini-Dean.' And all of this is because he used to have the same hairstyle as Dean. Also into Warhammer, role-playing games and a little bit of Magic. All because of his brother I think. Well, the guy got me addicted, so a little brother should be no problem. Has an impressively big heart for such a little guy and I would gladly have him on my side in any fight I get into.

Darrell

Damn, what can I say? Just about old enough to date my mom and a Canadian from origin. That about sums him up. Oh and lets not forget the fact that he is an avid Warhammer general, role-playing game player and game-master and irritatingly intelligent to boot. Another guy I would not like to piss off unless I could, as we always say, "hit him in the side of the head and run away really fast." And he got me addicted to coffee. Now how aboot that éh?

Joey

As with Darrell, I met Joey at the local Games Workshop. Kung-fu god and Dwarven encyclopaedia, this guy does it all. This is the guy you call upon in two situations. Either you are in a fight you cannot win, or you have to get something Chinese translated. We will miss him when he buggers of to China for eight months next year. Oh well, just savour the mad moments of going to the movies, laughing at elves and looking at women that arise until then.

Jon

I think it is best if I just quote his own introduction. Because summing this guy up is a day-task. "I live in a badly lit room in a ground floor flat in Plymouth and study in the dingy Napoleonic confines of DHS Boys, a grammar school in the heart of the same city. I have more books than I have friends and enemies put together, and more CDs than I have qualifications. I am, as you will probably have noticed from the URL, a goth (at least, I think I am and most of my friends, some of whom are goths themselves, think I am... is that good enough for you?), and have been prepared to admit this since early in 2002. I'm told I take myself too seriously; well, it's true, though why anyone bothers pointing it out to me I shall never know. Don't assume I have no sense of humour; it's just rather warped, moderately highbrow and constantly distracted, just like its owner."

Michael

By far the most terrifying and advanced mind I have ever known. Am I ever glad the guy is deadly afraid of me. Long live stories of sexual depravity! Met him, and Jon, on Imperial-Literature.com; a Games Workshop literature site which I voluntarily left twice. Anyway, long story, never mind. Became quite good friends with him and he will be visiting me somewhere next year. If any of you think you can prove a match for his intellect, I will gladly provide contact with him.

Adam

The reason I left Imperial-Literature.com. What began as childish rivalry ended in a last-ditch attempt to try and talk to him on MSN. Whilst we kept up the act of being rivals on the website we became very close friends over MSN. After leaving MSN behind we now email sporadically and I hope to one day be able to hug the guy in person and, yes, public. And the lazy git still has not sent me any pictures of his sister.

Please do not feel less important to me if you are further down. It is just the way you popped into my mind.

Hope you guys enjoyed it, because I am off to bed. Have to go to Rotterdam in eleven hours. Take care!

Well… Back from my Exalted session… It was great fun and I will disclose some details in another post… Not feeling like typing too much at the moment…

Note the redesign… AGAIN… And please people… This is important… View the page in maximum page size… Do not, I repeat, do not watch it in a small window… It will look like utter crap, thanks to the web-comic added to the page…

That is about it for now… I will leave you with some well-uttered words from our good friend Scott Kurtz over at PVPonline.com…

Just a few things to say… I will sum them up for you guys…

  1. Suzanne, you fucking rock! Who knew that a girl could be this cool? Likes Warhammer and wants to get into Dungeons and Dragons to boot!
  2. Guys… She is going to be part of the group from now on… Fucking deal with it if you mind it…
  3. <rude gesture> Saskia… Do not expect me to talk to you a lot… </rude gesture>
  4. Well… Suzanne… You rock!
  5. And Annemarie… You roxx0rz the boxx0rz too!

That is it for today… Off to Amsterdam for Exalted in six hours… Take care!

Let me start of with a small, rather rude message to seventy percent of the alternative community in the Netherlands… Fuck you, you fucking fucks! Get a fucking life! Yank that chain from your pants; nobody wants to steal your bus-pass! Stop acting like this because you are mad at your dad! Fatalism is not cool! Enjoy life! Look at for example punk rockers… I mean… They are amongst the most happy and bouncy people I know… Learn from it!

Ok… With that out of the way… Hello my friends! I am back from a few days of moping… Yet another day with Darrell lifted my spirits in such an extent that I am back in the fight with a new feeling… I love life! Leaving Gothness behind me for a little while I am about to submerge myself into the world of punk rock… A fittingly happy and bouncy soundtrack to my oncoming college years…

I wanted to share a certain web comic with you guys… Attached to this is a quote I will be using quite often…

[picture deleted - text only]

“Normal people lose weight when they stop eating… We merely stop getting any fatter…”

Well… Not that interested in continuing this post any further… Might make a new one tomorrow… Later people!

Posted by Stange on Sunday, August 18, 2002

Not really in a mood to talk a lot… I just want to make sure you guys still know I am alive… Had a turbulent past two weeks… Been on a holiday to Hungary which was quite amusing… Broke up with Saskia which was… Well… I cannot really tell yet… Only time can do that…

A special thanks goes out to my friends Darrell, Dean, Joey and Patrick… You guys might not know it… But you mean a hell of a lot to me… And do not banter about me acting gay… I just really love you guys… Thanks… I might not make a post tomorrow… Do not really feel like it at the moment… According to Darrell these feelings will pass in a week… Cold turkey it is…

Oh yeah… I finished Trollslayer before going to Hungary… Whilst being there I finished Skavenslayer, Daemonslayer, Dragonslayer and I am halfway through Beastslayer… After that I will read Vampireslayer and Hereticus… After that I will most likely get Storm of Iron and some of the re-released novels…

Aloha! Looking for a different way to start my rant today… Back from a turbulent ten days… Ten days of many firsts and even a (hopefully) last… I’ll tell you all about them later but I have to start by saying… Return to sender… Address unknown… No such number… No such zone… Got to love the King…

As I’ve said, ten days of firsts… The only ones I care to humour you with (the secret one being a rather personal one) are my first flight using an aeroplane and three days of London without any spikes… London was fun… Three days… First day being unbearably hot… The second being way too rainy… The third not being that important, as I was knackered from walking through London for two days… The first two summed up English weather according to my ‘local’ friends… I don’t care… It irritated the hell out of me… Still, three fun days… Got myself a box of Orcs and the first three Slayer books… Plenty of reading for me…

Whilst on the subject of Games Workshop fiction… Here is a little list of the books I’ve read… If any of you read them too, or you are just interested in my opinion about them, email me… I might put some reviews on this page… Anyway, here’s the list (in the order that I’ve read them)…

[list deleted - table conflict]

Skavenslayer and Daemonslayer are up next, followed by Hereticus… After that probably Dragonslayer, Beastslayer and Vampireslayer if I find the time… With time taken off to read Straight Silver in November…

I like bragging about the books I’ve read… As they are in English and all about two-hundred-and-fifty to three hundred pages it is quite a feat for a non-native speaker of the language… Anyway, enough bragging… Well, let me just add that the signed copy of Honour Guard is still in mint condition and I look forward to getting The Guns Of Tanith and whatever book in the Slayer series I can keep mint signed at Games Day 2002 this year…

So… What did I leave out of this little speech? Oh yeah… Christ almighty! My own girlfriend hacked my web page… Mustn’t forget to ask her how on earth she did it… In the meantime I’ll correct some of her spelling… Until next time my friends… Take care!

  My little list for you…

Hello people… Three things to tell you today…
  1. I’d like to congratulate Saskia on holding out with me for a month already… Let’s make it the first of many…
  2. I’ll be at my grandparents in Zeeland until Saturday afternoon, so no more updates until Saturday night…
  3. I’m a Goth and proud of it… And I hate the so-called ‘Goths’ that have to parade it around like it is a fashion statement… Get over yourselves or get help!

That’s it for today… Until next time guys and girls…

‘Running out of time’… How fitting… Felt a bit sad when I heard they found cancer in the lymphoid glands of Sharon Osbourne… Didn’t really care when Aaliyah or Lisa Lopez died (although it’s no fun of course) but somehow I found this case rather heartbreaking… But enough of that… On to more fun things…

When I last left you guys I was about to drop off Saskia and hang out with Joey… Parting with Saskia was once again painful… I love her and I hate to let her go like that… Especially when I know I will probably not see or speak to her the entire week… *big sigh* Meeting up with Joey was good fun… Got a chance to freak out the staff at Games Workshop Rotterdam (Arno, Björn and Nick) and shared a few hearty laughs… We went over to the Future Zone to say hello to Dean (my best friend and the closest biznatch with two jobs) and stayed for a while to play Capcom vs. SNK, even though I’m not that much of a fighting game fan myself…

Went to the cinema after that and we decided to go and see Lilo and Stitch… Second time for me, so it was not such a loss for me when the shit hit the fan… They started by showing the Dutch version instead of the English one, which meant the whole movie was delayed by close to twenty minutes… That meant we had to leave even earlier in the movie, as Joey had to pick up his girlfriend… Had a few good laughs anyway, so it was eight euros not quite as wasted as one would think (thanks for lending me the cash Joey)…

Got a text message from Darrell stating ‘WAT U DOIN’ TOMORROW’… I applaud your knowledge of your own language… In essence, I might be joining up with the big Canadian lug again… That’ll give me a good chance to get some questions about Werewolf: The Apocalypse answered… And we get to have a fun day in general…

That’s it for now… I hope you guys are still enjoying my ranting… Feel free to drop me a line… Until next time lads and lasses…

Well… Just had a rather uneventful Saturday… Except for the fact that Saskia (my girlfriend) came over and… You get the picture… We watched the part of Blade she hadn’t seen yet and ended the night in the first seventy-five minutes of The Matrix… After that we watched some TV, even coming across a porn movie with a decent story…

Today started with the mandatory cuddling after which I found out Joey tried to call me on my mobile… Called him back and he asked me if I felt like hanging out with him… So after I drop Saskia off I’m going to Joey…

Looking at my watch I see it is about time to wake Saskia up… *big gulp* Wish me luck… This is Jerry signing off… I’ll post again somewhere tonight…

Here I am again… Let me start by saying I’ll be referring to my friends by their name from now on… Got a bit sick of having to say ‘my girlfriend’ or ‘my best friend’ all the time… So, with that over and done with… On to the good stuff!

Spent most of my day at Games Workshop Rotterdam playing Mordheim… Michiel’s Orcs and Goblins butchered me but I managed to keep my warband together quite nicely… My second and last match of the day was against a Skaven warband (forgot the guy’s name) with I totally kicked the crap out of… Managed to keep everyone alive (only lost two Orc Boyz who turned out to be fine afterwards) and I made some pretty impressive advance rolls… The rest of the day was spent by first of all watching Darrell kick the snot (I just love that expression) out of some cocky High Elves player… After that I tagged along with Darrell (friend of mine when he feels like it), Joey (another friend of mine) and Peter… The last being a guy Darrell was ‘interviewing’ for his Werewolf: The Apocalypse role-playing group…

Had some dinner at KFC (damn, I was hungry like hell) and went over to Yendor (local comic/roleplay/cardgame store) so Joey could pick up the new Bone Gnawers book… After that Peter went home and we went to get a moccachino (hope I spelled that correctly) and hang around the coffee shop (one that really sells coffee) for, well, a long time… Ended up volunteering for Darrell’s role-playing group, so I’ll hopefully be going to Amsterdam on a regular basis soon… Oh yeah, Darrell… If you read this before I talk to you again… My vacation starts the eight of August and takes about ten days (three days extra for the journey) so I’ll be unable to make it in three weeks… I can give you my schedule for August on request, just email me…

That is enough for now… I hope you guys enjoyed yourselves… I am off to watch some TV or something… Until later!

  The Hague, my apologies…
Posted by Stange on Friday, July 19, 2002

Well… Here I am again… Back from my (black) crusade to The Hague… Had a lot of fun today… To say the least… I’m getting along quite nicely with Games Workshop The Hague’s staff and we shared some hearty laughs… It was my best friend’s first day of work and at a certain point I almost outshone him at customer service…

A fourteen-year-old girl came into the store to paint her Orks… She was named ‘Pinky’ because of her pink hair… I took quite a shine to her, as you don’t see a lot of girls that collect and paint Games Workshop games… Let alone an alternative skater-girl… I went milling through the store, pulling up codices and miniatures in order to tell her more about the Orks and the rest of the Warhammer 40,000 universe… Helped her with some painting and in general acted like a gentleman, helping her when I could… My best friend commented on my behaviour by saying, “Jerry’s on fire!”… She didn’t seem to mind me helping her and I had a good time showing of my knowledge of the hobby… So both parties were satisfied… Oh yeah… Saskia… Don’t worry…

I think it is about time I start heading for bed… Got to go to the Games Workshop in Rotterdam tomorrow… Going to play Mordheim with my Canadian friend Darrell… By far one of the coolest guys I know… Once again… Saskia… Don’t worry…

That’s it for now… Hope you guys check in later… Might put a guest book up or something… Don’t know yet… I’ll see… Later guys and girls!

Here it is… My very first post on my new web page… I will tell you beforehand that you should ignore the many, many extra ‘…’ in my sentences… It is a tick I picked up in a more depressed period and it kind of stuck with me… Sort of like a trademark you might say… Listening to Elvis I can’t help but remember when I went to see Lilo & Stitch… I had my best friend’s kid brother with me (he’s fifteen now)… The guy is a bit of a Hip-hop fan and I met up with him in the subway, ‘fully painted’ so to say… Had eye-pencil and lip-pencil on, so his first reaction was plain out laughing… Something I can’t blame him for… I mean I did look pretty ridiculous… Or as my girlfriend would say, “way better than me”… Anyway, he got used to it within a few minutes and we saw the movie, which rocked… And believe me that is pretty hard seeing as it’s a Disney movie… I tried to think of all the flops they produced lately, but I wisely stopped at Atlantis

On a happier note, I spent yet another day with my girlfriend and I discovered some very interesting things… None that I shall disclose… Well, at least not without having to charge you between $2.99 and $9.99 a month… If you get what I mean…

I think this rant has gone on long enough… Have to get up early in the morning and I’ve got about an hour left to fuel my Solitaire addiction… Like my best friend said, “you’ve got a pc with Ragnarok Online and Soldier of Fortune on it and you play some leftover from Windows 3.1?”… Yes I do… And I do it because I could never in my life stop playing it… Cold turkey? Hell no!
