Chapter One

Does life really go on after someone you love dies? Three years ago, Zac would have answered no. That was the year his brother Taylor died.

He stared across the room at his eldest brother Isaac and his wife Jade as they showed off their first daughter Jordyn Isobel.

It was so fitting for her to be named after Taylor. After Taylor had died, Jade had retreated into a depression that it appeared she would never come out of. Isaac had brought her out of it, and because of that they had discovered feelings for each other.

Zac had dealt with his feelings alone.

The family get together over with, Zac settled in backstage in preparation for that night's show. He used to love playing in Tulsa, but now he was just tired of being with his family. They were all so happy. Just for once he'd like to have a woman look at him the way Jade looked at his brother.

"You ready for the meet and greet?"his current assistant Erin asked. Erin had been with him the whole past year, helping him out backstage on the current tour. She'd been a lifesaver.

Zac sighed."Yeah, sure. Send 'em in."The meet and greets usually were relatively painless these days, at least the girls didn't tear at his clothes like they had in the old days.

Today there were only three. A blonde, and two brunettes. The blonde's name was Missie (or Candy, something like that) and the brunettes were Kristin and Brianna.

Brianna and Missie were in the middle of telling him all about how they'd both wanted to be singers when they were little girls, when he turned to Kristin, who hadn't said a single word."So, what did you wanna be when you were a little girl?"

"I don't remember,"she said very quickly.

"Aww, sure you do. Maybe an astronaut?"he prompted."Or a ballet dancer?"

It was then that she exploded."I said I don't remember!"She jumped up and started down the hallway.

Leaving Missy and Brianna by themselves, Zac ran after her."Look I'm sorry,"he said breathlessly, grabbing her arm.

When he caught sight of her face he felt incredibly guilty. There was raw emotion written all over her face. He wasn't sure what he had done, but he sure was sorry he had done it.

"I'm really sorry,"he repeated.

Kristin shook her arm loose."It's okay, I'm just overly sensitive about stuff like that. No biggie."

"Stuff like what?"

"Questions about when I was a kid. You see, I fell off the jungle gym when I was thirteen and I landed on my neck. I fractured it and was in a coma for a couple days, and when I woke up, I didn't remember anything. I didn't remember falling, I didn't even recodnize my own parents."

Zac stared at her in shock."Nothing?"

"Not even my own name."She shoved her hands in her pockets."I had to start from scratch. God, I don't even know why I'm telling you this. The only people that know are my parents and the doctors. I never even told Allie."

"Who's Allie?"

"My best friend?"

"You didn't tell your best friend?"Zac couldn't believe what she was telling him."Didn't she know you before the accident?"

Just then Erin entered the hallway from one of the doorways nearby."Zac you're on in ten."

Kristen turned to leave, but Zac stopped her."You doing anything after the show?"

She shook her head.

"Good. Meet me back here afterwards. We can grab something to eat, alright?"

He stared entreatingly at her until she finally nodded.

Zac stared at her as she walked off. There was something about this girl, and he had to know more.
