Privilege
60 min.

Emotions run high in and out of court in the absorbing seventh-season premiere.

One storyline centers on Lindsay (Kelli Williams), who, facing hard time for murder, has a telling confrontation with Bobby (Dylan McDermott). “Since we've been married,” she says, “you've turned to stone. When we talk, we don't really talk.” In other developments, a zealous law-school grad (Jessica Capshaw) who seeks to join the firm has a run-in with Ellenor; and Jimmy (Michael Badalucco) is embroiled in a 16-year-old child-kidnapping case that hinges on lawyer-client confidentiality. Melissa Halpern: Mary Page Keller. Sally Burns: Holly Fulger.

Season Starts: September 29, 2002 From Paper printed TV Guide

Where we left off: Lindsay Dole (Kelli Williams) was convicted of murder.
It's back because... Although the six-year old series is showing it's age, it remains ABC's most watched drama. "We have no intention of winding down." says executive producer Bob Breech.
Pretty Woman: Jamie Stringer (Jessica Capshaw, daughter of Kate) joins the firm. "Bringing Jessica in is a great way to keep the show fresh and alive," says Breech, who promises sparks will fly when the idealistic new attorney meets the battlescarred partners. So much so that one veteran- no names, please- leaves the firm.
Taking the Bars: Lindsay logs serious time in the pokey awaiting her sentencing hearing. Although she will eventually return to the firm, her marriage to Bobby (Dylan McDermott) is far less certain.
Matt's forecast: NBC's new Boomtown could draw some viewers away from the increasingly preposterous Practice. But this show has come back from the edge before. It's not too late.

From EW Fall TV Preview

With Lindsay (Kelli Williams) having been convicted of murder in last season’s finale, husband Bobby (Dylan McDermott) is left to care for their 1-year kid. “Lindsay”s fate is not going to be resolved for a while,” says exec producer Robert Breech. “Their marriage is going to be challenged through this ordeal.” Jessica Capshaw joins the firm as fresh-out-of-law-school Jamie Stringer, whose first case involves a client who “has problems keeping all his clothes on,” says Breech. The actress’ connections (she’s Steven Spielberg’s stepdaughter) played no part in her casting: “She won it fair and square,” says Breech. Whether the same can be said of her role in Minority Report is up for debate. (Sept. 29)

Lindsay remains in stir after her conviction while the firm searches for ways to appeal. Jimmy helps a woman named Melissa Halpern who kidnapped an infant girl 16 years ago and raised it as her own. Without exposing her identity, the guilty woman wants to get word back to the birth mother that the child is alive and well. She also wants to clear the name of another woman long falsely accused of the kidnapping. Jimmy carries out Melissa's wishes, but the women he contacts wants to know a lot more than he can tell. It's not long before Jimmy faces Helen in court.
