Greetings Fellow RATs!
It's been a year in the making, but
our web site unveiled on February 28, 2002!!
This has been a very fun project for
me. Thanks to The RAT Pack officers who allowed me to create a
web site as a project for my HTML & JavaScript classes I took in
the spring and summer of 2001. However, this was an adventure
that took me well beyond my classes, overcame many obstacles in
getting this site up and running, learned a lot and enjoyed the
journey. Remember Ralph Smedley's quote, "We learn
best in moments of enjoyment." That pretty much sums up
this experience for me.
I designed the site to be simple enough to pass on to another club
webmaster at some point in time. Any enthusiastic member with
the desire to learn can become the site's Webmaster, even if you do
not know a thing about HTML or web site development. Yahoo!
GeoCities, our host, provides excellent online learning tools so
that anyone can do it. In Toastmasters, we learn by
doing. This same philosophy holds true for our web site.
If you have the motivation, this is the job for you! Plus, you
can add more skill sets to your resume and show your
versatility!
My philosophy was to provide a web
site that would not only market the benefits of Toastmasters and our
club to visitors, but also serve as a communication tools and
resource for our club members. With the limited space we
have I have tried to maximum those benefits and value for visitors
by linking to information contained on other sites whenever
possible. Typically when a new window opens in your browser,
the link it taking you to some corner of the Earth.
Please feel free to send me an email with your
comments, thoughts, suggestions. Each one of you is a
valuable resource for the rest of us. Don't be shy, write
an article for our web; share your tips, tricks & other tidbits
of information; send those links that have proved to be valuable to
you so that we can continue to learn from each other.
Even though I'll be a 1,000 miles
away physically, I'll be as close as an email if you want help with
the site or advice on anything.
