Fernando Sor

February 1778 - Fernando Sor born into a respected family in Barcelona as `Jos' Fernando Macarurio Sors' ('Jeffery Sor').

1793 - Enters a monastery in Barcelona to study music and further his military career.

1796 - Withdrawn from the monastery due to financial difficulties after his father's death.

1797 - Writes an opera and first solo guitar music.

1801 - The Duchess of Alba gives Sor a study in her house and lets him work on his own pieces at his own speed.

1808 - The French army invades Spain

1813 - the Spanish army defeates the French and regaines control of Spain. Sor returns to Paris.

1809 - Sor travels to England

1823 - Moves from London to Russia

1825 - Moves from Russia to Paris.

1827 - Sor's greatest output of work. 'Retirement'

1830 - Sor publishes "Methode pour la Guitare"

1837 - Death of daughter.

1839 - Sor's Death
