Ruckdaschel family

He was born September 24, 1880 in Clayton Co. IA. He was baptised on September 29, 1880 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville, Allamakee Co. IA He contracted measles as a young child and was severely disabled.
Johann died on March 6, 1896, aged 15. I believe his grave may be marked by the small white stone next to his parents in the Postville cemetery. It is inscribed simply J.R.

He was born in Grand Meadow twp. Clayton Co. IA on May 4, 1883. He was baptised on May 18, 1883 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville, Allamakee Co. IA.

He married twice. He married first Rosina Koenig in Postville, Allamakee Co. IA on February 22, 1906. Rosina was born 1878. She was the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Koenig and Henriette Charlotte Lousie Johann-Meier. He married 2nd Flossie Moon in Postville in June 1942.

Fred operated a Ford dealership/garage in Postville between 1916 and 1940. At least 2 of his old ledger-books survive, scores of checks written to him & many insurance policies that he wrote. I have indexed the 1918 ledger. [view ledger] He also wrote insurance policies & did construction work in the area. This news item from the Iowa Volksblatt, March 19, 1915: "A $1,600 addition will be made to the parsonage of St. Paul's congregation. Fred Ruckdaschel was awarded the contract." In a 1924 newspaper ad Ruckdaschel Ford offered their Ford Touring Car for $295. Payment could be made on the Ford Weekly Purchase Plan. Fred was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and he served on the Postville Town Council in the late 1940's until his death.

The family is found on the 1920 Federal Census, dist.15, Postville town, Jan 9, 1920 living on Tilden St.

Fred wrote a will on December 7, 1946. He left his home to his wife Flossie for her life and the remainder of his estate to his only son Elrie. The will was admitted for probate by Lloyd R. Kolsrud, clerk of District Court, in Allamakee Co. IA on October 23, 1951.

Rosina Koenig Ruckdaschel died November 1931 in Postville, at 53 years of age. Fred Ruckdaschel died September 25, 1951 in Postville at 68 years of age. I don't know when Flossie died. Fred and Rosina are buried in the Postville cemetery.

Ludwig Frederich Christian Ruckdaschel and Rosina Koenig had 1 child:

He married Anna E. Schroeder in Postville on November 14, 1917. Anna was born in Postville on September 3, 1896. She was the daughter of John Schroeder and Caroline Miene. They farmed in the Postville area. Walter was a customer at his brother Fred's automotive supply business. His account is on page 369 of the 1918 ledger shows that he purchased 100 lbs. of twine, a can of grease and pd for labor among other items.

Walter died January 21, 1962 in Postville, at 74 years of age, of carbon monoxide poisoning. Anna died October 14, 1982 in Postville, at 86 years of age. They are buried in the Postville cemetery.

Walter J. Ruckdaschel & Anna E. Schroeder had 4 children:

He married twice. He married Josephine Halverson in Postville, IA, June 25, 1913. Josephine was born in 1893. He married 2nd Welma Ihde in Postville, IA, at the home of her parents on October 4, 1922. Welma was born in Winneshiek Co. IA on March 31, 1899. Her parents were Joseph Frederick Ihde and Dean Elizabeth Teepe.

Victor farmed in the Castalia and Postville areas for many years. He bought a Chevrolet auto in 1915 and was a customer at his brothers garage in 1918, his account in the ledger shows he purchased 100 lbs. of twine, machine oil and pd for labor among other items.

He and Welma moved into the town of Postville in 1959.

Josephine died in childbirth on February 4, 1921 in Postville, IA. Welma died November 20, 1990 in Postville, IA, at 91 years of age. Victor died June 5, 1970 in LaCrosse, WI, at 80 years of age. I believe all are buried in the Postville, IA cemetery.

Victor C. Ruckdaschel & Josephine Halverson had 3 children:

She was born in Grand Meadow twp Clayton Co IA November 9, 1894. She was confirmed April 12, 1908 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville, IA by Rev. Kuhne.

She married Edward J. Oldag in Postville,Allamakee Co. IA, on February 12, 1918. They were married in the home of bride's parents by Rev. E. Schmidt. Edward was born in Clayton Center, Clayton Co. IA on April 14, 1883. He was the son of George Oldag and Augusta Foels. Ed was a building contractor and they made their home in Postville. Ed was a customer of Fred Ruckdaschels automotive supply. His account is on pg. 228 of the 1918 ledger. He bought a set of cork inserts for $2.75, 3 hrs. of labor for $1.25 and 8 gal. gas for $2.64.
