He was born in Grand Meadow twp, Clayton Co. IA on June 1, 1907. He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville, Allamakee Co. IA on July 7, 1907 and confirmed there on September 11, 1921.
He married Florence Katherine Swenson in Postville, IA, June 11, 1929. She was the daughter of Arthur Swenson and Nina Harris. They loved to dance and spent many hours at dance contests. Their specialty was the "Charleston".
Elrie and Florence lived in Postville where Elrie operated the Ford garage with his father for many years, and then by himself until about 1950. He served as president of the Postville School Board, was a member of the Commercial Club and a member of the Postville Town Council.
Elrie died of severe injuries received in an automobile accident on May 10, 1959 in New Hampton, IA, at 51 years of age. He is buried in the Postville cemetery.
