Pet guide page 1…
Cute and cuddly tips for your new friend!

Unleashed guide
After selecting your pet's breed and sex and choosing a name, you pay the cashier and take ownership. The new animal appears alongside you in the store, eager to meet its new owner. After a little bonding, you are on your way. Although the new pet hangs around initially, don't become alarmed when it takes off to explore the area. You are easily reunited with a quick call, and when you board the shuttle for the trip home (or to another Old Town location), your new dog or cat will be right behind you.

Pet paradise
There is plenty for your pet to do at Pet Paradise while you shop. Food dishes are full, houses and beds are available for Cat (or Dog) naps, and your pet is free to nuzzle or nip another Sim. Animals with excess energy can even burn off calories on the playground. For a good laugh don't miss your pet going down the slide!

Money for Tricks
In addition to the cost (first session is £250, and goes up from there), training is time consuming. Monitor your Sims Motives to determine how long you can hang around. The pet trainer teaches your Dog or Cat how to do tricks (Housebreaking and Obedience are up to you) As your Dog successfully completes each training session, each successive session becomes more expensive, as illustrated in the following table. It takes 10 training sessions to reach the maximum level of Trick Skills.

Housebreaking
Eventually, you must go home with your new puppy and begin training. The first priority is to get your dog to stop peeing on the carpet which will do almost immediately after walking though the front door. This is a simple but time consuming process of scolding the Dog when you find a puddle. Each time you scold the dog, it gains a point on the Housebreaking bar. After 10 "incidents," your dog is officially housebroken, and it will go outside. Fortunately, this is a lifetime skill that does not require reinforcement.

Accessories
There is no need to buy accessories after adopting a pet, but you might as well take advantage of Pet Paradise while you're there. Here is a list of available products and their functions.

  • Pet Treats (£45): Excellent reinforcements for obedience and trick training, provides one-time hunger-boost

  • Squeaky Tara Pet Toy (£25): Play toy for dogs and cats.

  • Gnawhide Pet Toy (£49): for Dogs only, provides more fun than the rubber duck.

  • Marty McMousenip catnip (£45): for cats only, provides more fun than the rubber duck

  • Cat and Dog Collars (£15-25): assorted styles and colours (in separate displays.)

Training
After adopting your pet you can go home and begin housebreaking (Dogs only) or training. However, if you have the simoleans, you can squeeze in a few sessions with the pet trainer before you leave. Or, if you'd rather handle the training yourself, you can receive free advice on Obedience, Housebreaking, Tricks, breeding and Hunting (Cats only)
