Food in Japan

Food is one of the things we love about Japan. From the extensive use of rice and seafood to the imported Chinese and Korean dishes, there is always something exciting to eat!

Below are some of our favorites; if you invite us to a pot-luck, you may see one of these. Click on the image for some instructions on preparing. Enjoy... (STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

Udon - - This brothy soup with thick noodles is a long time favorite of both Japanese and foreigners. It's actually very easy to make, and delicious!

Banana Bread - - OK, so it's not a Japanese dish, but I bet you've never made it in a rice cooker! In Japan, a regular oven is quite rare, so here's a recipe that works in a rice cooker.

Japanese Fajitas- - AKA "Temaki Sushi" Don't be scared off by the word "sushi", as it can be made without raw fish. It will definitely make you feel Japanese though!

Hot & Sour Soup- - This is an adaptation of a Betsy Mullins' recipe, and is very comforting on those cold winter days! (we know this first hand)

Kabocha- - This is one of our favorites! It's a Japanese pumpkin, and is sweet and yummy! It's very easy to make and I know you'll go back for seconds!
