Raid on Ramsgate! Episode II, by Scott Lynch

"When the B.E.F. evacuated France, they left behind the vast majority of their heavy equipment and vehicles. Most of their walkers were disabled, but a few of them were in perfect condition. We amused ourselves for several months by maintaining them as objects of study, but when the directive for the Ramsgate operation came down the line, we realized that we could return them to the British by the most expedient method. That is, by marching them up Ramsgate pier with their guns blazing."

Colonel Helmuth Wassermann, Architect of the Ramsgate Raid.

    Terrain and Setup
The table should describe an orderly urban area. Half the German side of the table is water, and the other half is city. Three or four roads should travel through the buildings from the German to the British side, offering several avenues of approach.

The Germans player may set up anywhere he likes on his side of the table (except, of course, within the water). The British player may set up anywhere within the half of his side of the table farthest from the Germans, which leaves about 1/4 of the play area empty.

The British AT guns may be dug-in as this episode begins. German AT guns may not.

    Mission Briefing
A massive Luftwaffe attack and naval bombardment has set dozens of ships afire in the harbor. British forces are withdrawing in some confusion, hoping to regroup outside Ramsgate and link up with a relief column rumored to be forming up to the southwest. Although the Germans have taken casualties, their forces are breaking into town, using captured British equipment from the fall of France to sow confusion in the ranks of their opponents.

This mission is Medium priority for both sides.

    Mission Objectives
The German objective is simple- remove the British defenders and throw up a defensive perimeter once they're gone. This is the critical part of the raid. If the Germans are delayed or weakened now, they will lose their chance to inflict more serious damage on the port and gather intelligence material. The Germans will win a major victory if all of the British units are destroyed or forced off the map by the end of Turn 10. The Germans will win a minor victory if all the British units are destroyed or forced off the map.

The British objective is more flexible. Again, troops withdrawn off the British side of the map may be used for the later counter-attack. However, the British player has a more experienced force in this outing, and may be able to inflict considerable damage on the raiders.

    Designer's Notes
This episode is again significantly imbalanced in favor of the Germans, but the British player is in charge of a much more effective fighting force this time, and through creative deployment and good fortune may be able to seriously injure his opponent.
