That really is the question, isn't it?

Why did we choose J/C as a pairing to kill? Why do we run this contest year after year, encouraging people to come up with creative scenarios to put to sleep any chances for this AU pairing in their stories?

Why?!?

Well, its really quite simple.

We sincerely, honestly think both Chakotay and Janeway deserved someone better to be with than each other. In our opinion, they were at their absolute worst when with each other. No matter how strong the potential we saw in early Chakotay, the unfortunate truth of the matter was that he was more often than not turned into a wimp in her presence. And sadly, Janeway too regularly seemed to succumb to her tendency of acting like a tyrant when dealing with him.

They were often shown as great friends, they even normally made a great command team . But we believe their best moments came when they were far far away from each other. Some of the best Chakotay episodes came when he was off Voyager and out of Janeway's shadow (like Maneuvers, Distant Origin, Nemesis, Unity) and the times Janeway really got to shine too was when Chakotay had hardly anything to do (like Counterpoint, Endgame, Dark Frontier) with her in the episode.

And that's why we think J/C sucks! ;)
