Electronic Lead Distribution  


    Microsoft Outlook 97® and SQL Server 6.5 can be combined to  
    create a powerfull email distribution system.  In a recent project  
    for a large Response Management client, our Client Server team  
    did just that.  The customer required an automated means of  
    dispatching incoming customer inquiries and sales leads from  
    their Call Center to appropriate Sales Representatives in the  
    field.  The solution entailed a custom Visual Basic 5.0 application  
    designed to run on the departmental task server.  This application  
    constantly scanned the SQL Server database containing Call  
    Center Inquiry data.  As new inquiries were added to the  
    database the application would dynamically generate an HTML  
    document and transmit the document through SMTP email to the  
    remote Sales Representatives assigned to the inquiry.  

    This solution made the most of the email services exposed by  
    Microsoft Outlook 97, capitalizing on the customer's existing  
    investment in technology.
