The Johor Bahru City Council scored another first in April 1998 when it launched the new generation of pasar malam (Night Market).

The new pasar malam will not reduce the special atmosphere of the traditional pasar malam but will instead enhance ones shopping experience by providing ample of car parking space, proper lighting and public toilets.

The first new look pasar malam is now being held at Taman Suria (Suria Housing Estate).  The city council will phase out the present concept of pasar malam if the new concept proved successful.

The new look pasar malam would hopefully ease the traffic congestion around the area and ensure a cleaner and orderly environment, while not losing the traditional charm of pasar malam.
