Johor Bahru is set to have the country's
longest and most comprehensive Light Rail Transit network in the future!
The preliminary development plan for Johor Bahru's Light
Rail Transit network indicated that the city's inner metropolitan area will need 80
kilometres of Light Rail Transit track in order to cover the area sufficiently.
The 80 kilometres network will be divided into two main
routes, ie the red East Route and the blue West Route. At the moment, only the
first phase's detail plan is publicised. The first phase will cost RM2 billion and
it will involve 30.6 kilometres of track-laying covering most of the inner-city's suburbs.
The 80 kilometres network does not include additional Light
Rail Transit Networks being planned within the various new towns. Among the major
new towns, Bandar Baru Nusajaya (Nusajaya New Town) and Bandar Baru Indahpura (Indahpura
New Town) have individually announced plans to build the network within their
compounds.
