The
Asia-Pacific region's biggest privatised integrated township development is situated at
Gelang Patah, about 30 kilometres west of Johor Bahru City.
The 26,800 acres township, named Bandar Baru Nusajaya (Nusajaya
New Town), costing RM32 billion, will be receiving it's first citizen before the year
2000. It is designed to host 500,000 residents upon full completion by the year
2020.
Currently located within the township are the already
operational Second Crossing to Singapore, which was opened in January 1998 and it's
supporting expressways such as North South Expressway extension and Johor Bahru Parkway,
both of which run through the heart of the township. The RM1.3 billion, 1.9
kilometres bridge crossing provided the people another route to go to Singapore without
using the congested Johor-Singapore Causeway in Johor Bahru City.
