Ende Regency

Ende was the site of a kingdom that existed around the end of 18th century. The town Ende lies at the foot of mountains Iya, Ipi, Meja and Wongge. The beautiful bays of Ende, Ipi, and Mbuu are favourite sites for beachsite recreation. Ende can be reached by aircraft from Kupang, Denpasar (Bali) via Bima. Or by ship from Surabaya or Kupang.


Ende

A historic town where Soekarno, the frist President of Indonesia, was exiled in 1936. Museum of Bung Karno will be found in Ende.


Kelimutu

East Nusa Tenggara's natural wonder and one of Indonesia's most mysterious and dramatic sights that can be found on top of this mountain, some 66 kilometres from Ende, or 83 Kms from Maumere. It has an unique and spectacular view on its three crater lakes with their respective colours. The colours, however, have changed continually since the eruption of Mount Iya in Ende in 1969.

The mountain is located at the back of Mount Kelibara, in the Wolowaru district, in Ende Regency. Keli means mountain and Mutu means boiling. In short, it means volcano. To the local people this mountain is holy, and a token of god's blessings. It provides fertility to the surrounding lands. It is both heaven and hell to the people of Lio Ende.

To reach Kelimutu can be done by flying to Ende or Maumere, then going by car to Kelimutu. The surrounding villages are good places serving as bases for visits to Kelimutu, particularly those who wish to have a more leisure pace and enjoy the views along the road between Ende and Maumere, or spend more time in Kelimutu. Those little villages are also known for their excellent weaving all hand made, and still uses natural dyes.


Moni

A pleasant stop-over by the foot of Mt. Kelimutu between Ende and Maumere. Moni can be visited everyday by bus, 56 Kms from Ende and 96 Kms from Maumere. Village of mountain fresh air, hotspring Lia Sambe and various handicrafts. Homestays with traditional architecture and services are available. Traditional market provide you various splendid weaving.


Marilonga

A fort of the colonial period, 2 hrs by bus from Ende.


Nggela

A traditional village known for its beautiful weavings. There are also found old portuguese cannon. Nggela is about 80 Kms from Ende.


Wolotopo

A traditional village in southern coast, about 10 Kms from Ende. Known for its traditional unique village construction, and weaving.
