Fonts
Sinhala

I have managed to get a few sinhala fonts fron Sri Lanka and from what I hear they are fairly widely available. However, if anyone (especially the font owner) objects to my having the font on my site and/or distributing it please let me know and I will be glad to take the font off.

The fonts are here in zip format. I would advise you use PKZip or WinZip

Tamil

I do not have enough room for all the Tamil fonts here, so I am adding links to the sites that I have found which have the tamil fonts and you can take it from there.

Internet Fonts

Lankalink together with Lanka Inernet Services Ltd. has created a set of two internet fonts called "Thibus". These fonts allow for the use of English and Sinhala or English and Tamil in one page. The fonts are pretty clean and usable and the concept it good. The fonts are available free of charge but the editor is heavily protected and costs US$200.00 (slightly excessive in my book).

You can link to the download page for Thibus at LISL here

As everybody gets on the Sinhala and Tamil Font bandwagon so has CeyCom (a division of Ceylinco) and MicroImage. They have come up with a set of Sinhala and Tamil TrueType fonts which are available in the CeyCom server. Microimage has also created a set of Sinhala fonts and drivers that will convert any English/ASCII keyboard into a Sinhala Wijesekara or phonetic keyboard using their fonts. The program is called Hela Wadana, the fonts are free but the drivers cost US$100.00 (ho hum does anyone have a crack?)

Text Editors

Both Text Editors here are freeware

Sinhala

Chrismal Panditharathna's Sinhala Text Editor is available here

This is a small but effective text editor and it comes with its own font (not truetype I am sorry to say, but I hear that Chrismal is working on one right now). Its easy to use and many people on the net have used it in their pages.
If you like Chrismal's editor or think you can help him any way, email him at Chrismal@bangate.compaq.com and let him know

Tamil

Murasu Anjal Text Editor

I really have no idea how good this is so if someone who uses it will let me know I will have a review of it here.

Other resources on the net

There are other sites which provide resources for Sri Lankans. They include fonts language learning resources and much more. I have tried to get the pages with the most comprehensive coverage of linguistic links from the many available on the net.

Sinhala

The Australian National University has a page with resources for Sinhala. They include links to .wav files for pronunciation and many other academic resources for those who wish to learn Sinhala.

You can jump to the Sinhala linguistics page at ANU from here

Tamil

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in India has a comprehensive list of Tamil resources on the net. It has links to both linguistic and entertainment resources.
