Cape Town and the Peninsula

Western Cape
Cape Town and Peninsula seen from the air

Small in area but rich in history, culture, scenery and activities this picturesque southern tip of Africa is one of South Africa's favorite playgrounds. Hardly any of the many attractions are more than a 30 minute drive away - and with so many to choose from, this is truly a vacation paradise. Table Mountain was named by navigator Antonio da Saldanha during his voyage in 1503, and it was at the foot of this great mountain that the "Mother City" - Cape Town - was founded by Jan van Riebeeck in 1652. Clifton's popular 4th beach The Cape Peninsula is world renowned for its beautiful natural beaches. At the foot of "The 12 Apostles" Clifton's four sandy coves separated by large rocks, are favored by sun worshippers for their crisp white sand and gentle, but chilly blue sea.

The historic old buildings in the Cape Town harbour have been completely restored to their former glory. They now host a vibrant entertainment area in the old elegant Victorian style. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is named in honour of the Queen and her son, the first royal descent to land on Southern Africa's shoreline.

The waterfront is always bustling with activity, and is the perfect place to enjoy sundowners while watching the sun drop bellow the ocean, or enjoy the terrific seafood of the restaurants.
