Praia do Almoxarife

The name means “Beach of Almoxarife”, and it was here that the first settlers landed, calling it Almofariz. The parish is located in the eastern part of the island, between the cape of Espalamaca and the village of Pedro Miguel. In front of the church of Our Lady of Graça from 1758, there is an old bandstand, and nearby, along the promenade of the beach, there is a camping site and several restaurants. Although it is a rural village like most others, all the roads seem to be inviting us for a swim down at the beach. From the place of Facho, where there is a viewpoint with the statue of Our Lady overlooking the city of Horta, it is usual to see parachute displays in the Summer time, and the colourful cliffs of Rocha Vermelha can also be admired.
