Hyde Park. The Serpentine (a lake) is in the background.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park is yet another sign that the British, and Londoners specifically, are a civilized bunch of people. While London has several excellent parks in the center of town (St. James' Park stands out in my mind), this large oasis of green is just what the person tired of urban sprawl needs. Speaker's Corner was a major disappointment. I was there from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m on a Sunday and only saw one speaker ranting. What's worse was that he was spouting fundamentalist Christian messages that one can find on American T.V. during the week. The park is worth seeing; but, don't plan your visit around a stop at Speaker's Corner.
